A spy unsettles US-India ties

News that the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)
had reached a plea bargain with David Coleman Headley, who played a key role in
the planning of the terrorist strike in Mumbai in November 2008 in which 166
people were killed, has caused an uproar in India.
The deal enables the US government to hold back from formally producing any
evidence against Headley in a court of law that might have included details of his
links with US intelligence or oblige any cross-examination of Headley by
the prosecution.
Nor can the families of the 166 victims be represented by a lawyer to question
Headley during his trial commencing in Chicago. Headley's
links with the US intelligence will now remain classified

FBI will not allow Headley's extradition to India and will restrict access so
that Indian agencies cannot interrogate him regarding his
links with US and Pakistani intelligence.
In return for pleading guilty to the charges against him Headley will get
lighter punishment than the death sentence that was probably most likely.
Headley's arrest in Chicago last October initially seemed a breakthrough in
throwing light on the operations and activities of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), the
Pakistan-based terrorist organization, in India. But
instead the Obama administration's frantic efforts to cover up the details of
the case have been taken to their logical conclusion.
The plea bargain raises explosive
questions. The LeT began planning the attack on Mumbai sometime around September
2006. According to the plea bargain, Headley paid five visits to India on
reconnaissance missions between 2006 and the November 2008 strike, each time
returning to the US via Pakistan where he met "with various
co-conspirators, including but not limited to members of LeT".
The plea bargain simply refers to the Pakistani handlers of Headley as A, B, C
and D. But who are they? We will never know.
The LeT's close links with Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) are
legion
and it is inconceivable that such a massive operation -
with huge international ramifications and the potential to trigger war with
India - could have been undertaken without the knowledge of the ISI,
headed by General Ashfaq Parvez Kiani, the present army chief, from October 2004
until October 2007.
The plea bargain says chillingly that after Headley's fifth visit to India,
"Lashkar [LeT] Member A advised defendant [Headley] of a number of details
concerning the planned attacks, including that a team of attackers was being
trained in a variety of combat skills, the team would be
traveling to Mumbai by sea and using the landing site recommended by the
defendant, the team would be fighting to the death and would not attempt to
escape following the attacks."
Yet, the operative part of the plea bargain not only rules out Headley's
extradition to India but does not show that Headley gave any kind of formal
commitment to the FBI to subject himself to interrogation by the Indians. He has
merely agreed to give testimony in any foreign judicial proceeding that is held
in US territory.
In essence, the Americans are saying that they will tell the Indians what
Headley is saying and there is no need to interrogate him face-to-face. This is
diametrically opposite to the US's approach to the Lockerbie trial after a
bombed Pan Am flight crashed into the Scottish town of Lockerbie in 1988.
Altogether 270 died. Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al-Megrahi, a Libyan, was convicted
of involvement in the bombing.
Again, the plea bargain confirms that Headley had a criminal
record in the US from 1989 as a conspirator to import heroin and spent a
total of six years in prison as a result of four convictions. He was
later recruited as an agent by US drug-enforcement authorities,
who after the 9/11 attacks in the US coordinated closely with the Central
Intelligence Agency (CIA).
How much did the CIA know?
The plea bargain details that while working as an American agent Headley
attended at least five “training courses” conducted by the LeT in Pakistan,
including sessions in the use of weapons and grenades, close-combat tactics and
counter-surveillance techniques, from February 2002 until December 2003.
Training courses in April and in December 2003 were each of three months'
duration and in such close proximity to the 9/11 attacks that it stretches
credulity to believe the CIA didn't care to know what their agent was doing in
the LeT training camps.
Today, the heart of the matter is how
much did the CIA know in advance about the Mumbai terrorist strike and whether
the Obama administration shared all "actionable intelligence" with
Delhi?
A senior Indian editor wrote on Sunday, "Headley ... was convicted on drug
charges and sent to jail in the US. We know also that he was subsequently
released from jail and handed over to the Drug Enforcement Administration, which
said that it wanted to send him to Pakistan as an undercover agent. All this is
a matter of public record. What happened
between the time the US sent Headley into Pakistan and his arrest at Chicago
airport a few months ago?
How did an American agent turn into a terrorist? The US will not say."
Yet, cooperation in the fight against terrorism lies within the first circle of
US-India strategic cooperation. The Mumbai attacks led to unprecedented
counter-terrorism cooperation between India and the US - "breaking down
walls and bureaucratic obstacles between the two countries' intelligence and
investigating agencies", as a prominent American security expert, Lisa
Curtis, underscored in US congressional testimony on March 11 regarding the
Mumbai attacks and Headley.
To quote Curtis, "Most troubling about the Headley case is what it has
revealed about the proximity of the Pakistani military
to the LeT."
Curtis put her finger spot on the US government's deliberate policy to view the
LeT through the prism of India-Pakistan adversarial ties. This is despite all
evidence of the LeT's significant role since 2006 as a
facilitator of the Taliban's operations in Afghanistan by providing a constant
stream of fighters - recruiting, training and infiltrating insurgents across the
border from the Pakistani tribal areas.
Let=Mossad/Cia/Aholibah'secular zion
The US policy is impeccably logical. It prioritizes the securing of Islamabad's
cooperation on what directly affects American interests rather than squandering
away Pakistani goodwill by Washington covering for the Indians.
This political chicanery lies at the core of the unfolding Headley drama. What
emerges, even if one were to give the benefit of the doubt to the CIA, is that
Headley was its agent but he possibly got involved with Pakistan-based terrorist
organizations and became a double agent.
No doubt, the US administration is behaving very
strangely. It has something extremely explosive to hide from the Indians and
what better way to do that than by placing Headley in safe custody and not risk
exposing him to Indian intelligence?
The speculation gaining respectability in
Delhi is that Washington knew in advance about the
Mumbai attack and deliberately chose not to pass on details to Delhi.

Indeed, Washington knew of Headley's repeated missions to India from 2006 but
did not share the information with the Indians. Headley, in fact, visited Mumbai
once even after the city was attacked.
Clearly, the Obama administration was apprehensive that Headley might spill the
beans if the Indians got hold of him and the trail could
then lead to his links with the CIA, the LeT and the Pakistani military.
And where would that leave the US?
Obama is obviously in no position to "pressure"
the Pakistani military leadership. The US's obsession is to somehow end the
fighting in Afghanistan before the US
presidential election campaign commences in 2012. The extent to which the
US is beholden to the Pakistani military today is apparent from the about-turn
lately by even a self-styled "agnostic" like the AfPak special
representative, Richard Holbrooke, about the Pakistani military leadership's
commitment to the fight against terrorism.
A foreign policy in shambles
All said, however, the Americans seem to count on their skill to manipulate the
Indian elite. Robert Blake, the US assistant secretary
of state for South Asia who used to be the deputy head of the US Embassy,
visited Delhi last week on a damage-control exercise.
He huddled with the Indian corporate sector, which
is hugely influential with the political class.
However, will the strategy of leveraging the pro-US lobby in Delhi work this
time to ease the strain in the US-India “partnership”? The Mumbai terror
attack left deep scars in the Indian public psyche. For the first time in recent
years, the Indian public has closed ranks with prevalent
opinion in Pakistan that sees the US as a diabolic, self-centered power, which
double-crosses its partners, friends and allies in single-minded pursuit of its
interests.
This perception has consequences for the democratically elected government in
Delhi. The big question is whether the ruling party in India can any longer
afford to be seen sharing Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's robust
enthusiasm for a US-centric foreign policy.
It has been a devastating blow to Manmohan's personal prestige that the FBI's
plea bargain deal unfolded in the week he had earmarked for the tabling of
legislation in parliament that would facilitate the entry of American companies
into the Indian market for nuclear commerce.
Manmohan's visit to Washington to attend a nuclear summit hosted by Obama on
April 12 was expected to give a fillip to US-India ties, but Headley haunts the
ambience surrounding that visit.
The Headley case exposes the fallacies underlying India's foreign policy ever
since Manmohan assumed office as prime minister in 2004 - that "strategic
partnership" with the US could be central insofar as contacts with Pakistan
were best conducted under the US watch and Delhi's interests as an emerging
power lay in harmonizing with US regional policies.
A rethink on foreign policy has now become almost inevitable. Delhi recently
rolled out the red carpet to Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. Delhi may
now seriously engage Tehran, despite Manmohan's manifest indifference toward
India-Iran ties. The prime minister will find it even harder now to "operationalize"
the India-US nuclear deal of 2008, due to an inability to legislate a liability
bill that the US nuclear industry seeks as a pre-requisite for doing business in
India.
To what extent US expectations to corner a big share of India's arms bazaar are
going to be realized us unclear, no matter the clout of US arms manufacturers
with the Indian military community. All eyes in Delhi are trained on the
US-Pakistan strategic dialogue in Washington on Wednesday in which Kiani is
expected to pitch for a long-term strategic partnership between the two
countries that duly recognizes Pakistan's pivotal role in US policies.

US-Pakistani game plan to engage the Taliban and to reintegrate them in Afghan
power structures. The Headley saga underscores that the US-Pakistan axis in

reform plan.
But his triumph seems only to have inflamed his critics

believed the president was secretly Muslim, something he has consistently

lawsuits yesterday challenging an overhaul of the country's $2.5trillion
healthcare system, minutes after President Barack Obama signed the landmark

One joint lawsuit by a dozen Republican attorneys general and a Democrat
claims the sweeping reforms violate state-government rights in the U.S.
Constitution and will force massive new spending on hard-pressed state
governments.
Virginia went to court separately, while Missouri Republican Lieutenant
Governor Peter Kinder said he would like to join the suit.

The joint suit, led by Florida, was filed with a federal court in Pensacola,

Texas, Utah and Washington joined the suit.
The lawsuit says the law - which expands government health plans for the
poor, imposes new taxes on the wealthy and requires insurers to cover people
with pre-existing medical conditions - violates the Constitution's commerce
clause by requiring nearly all Americans to buy health insurance.
Mr McCollum said: 'It forces people to do something - in the sense of buying
a healthcare policy or paying a penalty, a tax or a fine - that simply the
Constitution does not allow Congress to do.'
Mr McCollum, who is seeking the Republican nomination to run for Florida
governor, said the healthcare reforms would add $1.6billion to Florida's
spending on the Medicaid health program for the poor.
The Justice Department, which is responsible for defending U.S. law in court,
pledged to vigorously fight any challenges to the new healthcare law.
'We are confident that this statute is constitutional and we will prevail,'
said Justice spokesman Charles Miller.
The White House agreed the suits would fail.
'There have been hearings about the constitutionality of the law, and I think
there's pretty much widespread agreement that it is constitutional,' Nancy-Ann
DeParle, director of the White House Office of Health Reform, said.
'I think we have governors who might be aiming for higher office who are
starting to just send a message.'
The suits were filed just moments after Mr Obama signed the healthcare
reforms into law.
But on the most historic occasion of his presidency so far, vice-president
Joe Biden managed to put his foot in it.
Gaffe-prone Mr Biden inadvertently broadcast the F-word to America after he
introduced the President to sign his much vaunted health reform bill into law
yesterday.
After hugging Mr Obama at a a ceremony in the White House, Mr Biden leaned in
and whispered in the President's ear: 'This is a big f****** deal.'

A newcomer to a Messianic congregation, upon seeing the Jewish symbols and
paraphernalia, often concludes that this is the real deal, that this is
authentic Judaism. When called out on the contradictions between Judaism and
Christianity, Messianics will quickly point to the fact that they keep the
mitzvot. Indignant at being called a Christian, they reply that they keep
kosher, that they keep shabbat, light shabbos candles, etc.
The Messianic movement emerged 30-40 years ago, as sort of a half-way house
for Jews into Evangelical Christianity. Frustrated at the low level of Jewish
conversion to Christianity, fundamentalist Christians sought a way to make
Christianity more palatable to Jews. Well-aware of the bloody history of
Judeo-Christian relations and the deep distrust many Jews feel towards
Christians,
Evangelicals
tried to find a way to make their Christianity feel less "Christian".
The crucifix, long associated with
persecution and oppression, had to go, as did " Jesus
Christ", pastor, altar, Sunday morning mass and all of the goyish
accoutrement often associated with church. In
its place came Jewish stars, a newly Hebrew "Yeshua HaMoshiach",
rabbis, and shabbos morning services. Dressing up their church- I mean
synagogue- with Jewish symbols, the Hebrew-Christian movement set out to teach Jews
of the "Jewish Jesus". No longer was he a WASP or a Catholic
priest, but a good yiddishe bochur, a nice Jewish boy who went to shul,
kept the Torah and was 100% kosher. Certainly no Jew could refuse such a
messiah.
The result of this emerging Messianic movement was a Christianity that gave up
none of its fundamental theology that set it apart from Judaism, but
that used Jewish symbols and rituals. Messianics don't keep Christmas as
they feel that it is a pagan holiday, yet they still believe in a virgin birth
which they celebrate on Shavuot. The same goes for Easter; despite not
celebrating what they see as pagan, they still believe that a demigod dying for
their sins, and commemorate this event during Pesach. This was a win-win
situation for Evangelical Christian: they didn't have to give up on any of their
fundamental beliefs and were able to, at the same time, take part in Jewish
rituals and observances. What resulted was a primitive form of Christianity that
hid itself behind Jewish labels.
The first commandment that the nation of Israel heard directly from G-d's mouth
at Sinai was "You shall have no other gods before Me". Only from this
fundamental basis can all other commandments proceed. The essence of Judaism is
that there is One G-d, One and Indivisible, and none besides Him. Without this,
there is no Judaism.

cardinal principle, making any claims of authentic Jewish expression irrelevant.

things came into being... We believe that Jesus the Messiah was eternally
pre-existent and is co-equal with God the Father; that He took on Himself the
nature of man through the virgin birth so that He possesses both divine and
human natures."

Whether or not they keep shabbat matters
little. At heart, the theology of Jews for Jesus is identical to the theology of
Baptists and Evangelical Christians.
Sid Roth's Messianic Vision's statements
of faith reveal a theology more at place at a Baptist revival meeting, than
in a synagogue or yeshiva. Same thing for the Chosen People Ministry, whose
beliefs are at odds with Jewish beliefs. All Messianic organizations, while
pretending to be authentically Jewish, are hostile to traditional and authentic
Jewish theology. Simply wrapping a cross in a tallis does not make it
Jewish. If something walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, then it is
reasonable to assume that it is a duck. Messianic groups, while preaching
adherence to the Torah, fail on the cardinal test of theology. In that realm,
they are purely Christian groups, masquerading around with Jewish objects. One
can dunk the New Testament in a mikveh and put a hechsher on
it, but in the end, if it Jesus
Christ to be Lord and Saviour, it ain't Jewish.
It is important to discuss Christian misuse of Jewish symbols. By keeping
kosher, putting on tfillin and saying the Shmah all the while believing
in Jesus, one does not endear themselves to G-d. Quite the opposite. G-d demands
as a basis that we remember we should have no other gods before Him, and that
besides Him there is no other. Anything else is spiritual adultery. Bowing
before Jesus, praising him and calling him divine is adultery with HaShem. "I
am the Lord, that is My name, and My glory will I not give to another. Neither
My praise to graven images!" (Isaiah 42:8) G-d does not share His
glory with anybody, certainly not Jesus. Keeping the mitzvot while worshipping
idols only angers G-d. It can be compared to a wife who suspects that her
husband is cheating on her and to placate her, he gives her jewelry, a car and
other fancy gifts. Coming home with another woman's scent on his clothes, his
diamond bracelets are meaningless. They only make the wife angrier at her
husband's betrayal. Similarly, if someone lights shabbat candles in Jesus honour,
G-d is infuriated at the desecration. It matters little if a person keep the
entire 613 commandments scrupulously; he is cheating on the G-d of Israel who
shares His with no one, and has no equal.
As Yom Kippur approaches, we must all do a cheshbon nefesh, a spiritual
accounting and realize where we have come short. It is incumbent upon each and
every person to do teshuva and to return to the One who created them.
The first step is realizing who the Creator is and who He isn't - and He
certainly is no man. "To whom shall you
liken Me and make Me equal and compare Me that we may be alike?"
(Isaiah 46:5) "I am the Lord your God, Who
brought you out of Egypt. You shall acknowledge no god but Me, no savior except
Me!" (Hosea 13:4)

WASHINGTON (JTA) -- President Obama said Education and Sharing Day marked the
legacy of kindness of the late Lubavitcher Rebbe, who launched the initiative.
"The importance of education and kindness was promoted in the work of
Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, the Lubavitcher Rebbe,
inspiring countless individuals to uphold these values
in their own lives and communities," Obama said
in a statement Thursday proclaiming March 26 as the 32nd commemoration of the
event instituted by Schneerson in 1978. "Each year, Education and Sharing
Day, U.S.A., reminds us of his legacy and the principles to which he dedicated
himself."
Schneerson was an early advocate of a Department of Education separate from
the former Department of Health, Education and Welfare.

intend on labeling any Jew who does not go along with the 3 goal program to be a
reincarnation of the Eruv Rav people - and thus deserving of death.
So this answers part of your question - what would happen - the result is that
1. Jews will kill all non-Jews who don't accept Jewish law
and 2. Jews will turn on their fellow Jews who don't want to slaughter animals
in the temple or who complain about #1.
Noahide law is deceptive.
On the surface it is common sense: no murder, no chopping off a limb of a living

setting up of law courts, no stealing.
The real explanation of the Noahide
law is to be found in the Talmud Tractate Sanhedrin. Stealing the value of two

least little infraction merits the death penalty for the non-Jew. Can't have a
day of rest - as rest was only granted to the Jews, whereas the gentile was
created for work. (think about this in this current day and age where the
weekend and religious/civil holidays off are a thing of the past). Death to the
goyim if you read any Jewish teachings other than the parts about Noahide
laws. The truth is that it is the most horrible dictatorship
imaginable.
One interesting point is the Noahide
teaching on sexuality. It explains much about the Jewish
proclivity for producing filth for the masses - a practice that even took
place in antiquity! Since gentiles are not capable of marriage or of sexual
morality, there is no limit to sexual activity other than the prohibition of
homosexuality, bestiality and sex with a Jewish woman. There is no allowance of
marriage for non-Jews. Is it any surprise that with this teaching, that Jews
think they are providing what the gentiles need and want when they produce smut?
As for the current promotion of homosexuality, it is a way

much as many of us enjoyed watching the humiliation of Israel and PM Netanyahu
in Washington this week, I am reluctant to suggest that
the emerging crisis between America and Israel may also be a red light warning
for all of us.
The current crisis may lead to some
devastating consequences as far as Palestine, Iran and the Middle East are
concerned.
“Netanyahu and Obama are at a point of no return” claims Haaretz writer
Akiva Eldar. “As
far as President Barack Obama and his senior advisers are concerned, Prime
Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is to blame for nothing less than damaging the
standing of the U.S. in the Middle East and the Muslim world.”

It may be possible that the Americans have started to gather that there is
no partner for peace in Israel. America clearly has had to shun its ‘kosher
ally’. The American military
and political elite already admitted this week that Israel is a strategic

American Israel strategic bond are AIPAC and its
list of obedient ‘Sabbath (Noahide anti-Christ)

A deeper reading of recent events would suggest that the

right to be the minister who approves the construction of thousands of housing
units in Jerusalem".
Along with his latest disastrous visit to Washington, PM Netanyahu found time
to consult with his Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman. According to
Ynet, Lieberman
advised his PM “not to capitulate in face of American pressure”.
I guess that most political
analysts fail to understand the depth of the Israeli right wing expansionist (Chabad

Regarding the Settlement Freeze and the Release of
Terrorists
A Dangerous and Submissive Regime
The regime and its institutions have made two decisions which undermine the
basic existence of the Jewish State in the Land of Israel. They have thus
abandoned of their supposed historical legitimacy, and have expressly ceased to
serve as representative institutions of the state of the Jewish Nation.
The decisions which undermine the physical existence of the Jewish Nation:
A. The decision to freeze the Jewish settlement in areas of our Holy Land,
including the capital, Jerusalem, which were liberated in 5727. This is a clear
expression of hostile, treacherous, foreign policy against the Jewish Nation.
This policy is meant to pave the way for the ethnic cleansing by expelling
400,000 Jews from their land, amidst civil war, and endangering the lives of our
people here and worldwide.
B. The expected decision to free a thousand murderous terrorists in return
for the captive Gilad Shalit.
In these decisions, the regime aides the enemies of Israel to dispossess the
Nation of Israel from its Holy Land. To this aim, it provides many resources: in
land, arms, water, propaganda, morale, human resources, and condemnation of the
Jewish Nation in the world public opinion.
There is a limit to what can be done while operating according to the laws of
capitulation. They must stand up to the tests of morals and logic.
The issue of freeing Gilad Shalit is tangible expression of the strengthening
terror industry against Jews and the world. Releasing murderous terrorists is a
cry of surrender from the state, and the raising of a white flag in front of its
enemies, and the beginning of the collapse of free states to the blood thirsty
Islamic boots.
Everyone knows that those freed in the Jibril deal founded the first Intifada.
That prisoner release was meant to create legitimacy for the “Peace
Process”, which is meant to be the process of destruction of the Jewish Nation
(may it never be).
All of the Intifadas were, at the end of the day, coordinated, either with or
against the will, of the enemies. Recently, it has been revealed that even the
Yom Kippur War was the rotten fruit of coordination between the weak Israeli
regime and the enemies of the state, by means of mediation of a hostile
regime (as it always has been) in the White House, at the expense of our
soldiers’ blood. There were leaders that knew how to stand up to American
pressure. Ben-Gurion did not give in on the matter of the status of Jerusalem
and the Negev. Eshkol started the Six Day War. Begin destroyed the Iraqi nuclear
reactor. All of these were in spite of pressure, which ended up bringing a
strengthening of Israel’s status. The world and the
American Congress value winners and strong partners, not so much soft humanists.
Israel won its freedom and independence by the blood of its fighters, but it has
been ensnared in the net of a false peace. With purposeful submission and
weakness of mind for this false peace, they have undermined the state’s
security, and have given a decisive contribution to
undermining world peace and its fight to defeat terrorist Islam.
Monstrous deals to free captives, like the Tennenbaum deal and the Kuntar
deal, in which bodies were returned in exchange for massive amounts of
murderers, are the road signs on the path to surrender.
The central figures advancing these processes are politicians, academics,
media personalities, the Peace Now movement, and public relations people who
receive great amounts of money from foreign, hostile countries in exchange for
their contemptuous, acts of betrayal.
In order to prevent collapse, which, G-d forbid, would
include another holocaust, there should be no deal for Shalit, even at
the cost of his life, and at the same time, steps should be taken to immediately
save his life, by using the lives of murderous terrorists in our hands as
hostages.
If, G-d forbid, Gilad Shalit were to be put to death,
or not returned in peace, prisoners should immediately be executed.
It is incumbent upon the state to complete Operation
Cast Lead during Chanukah this year, and to wipe out the leadership of Hamas
from the world.
In any event, the State of Israel
cannot prevent a war, the likes of which have not been seen,
simultaneously with all its enemies, as
a result from the process called the “Peace” Process, which is
nothing but a process of surrender, like the words of the prophet (Jeremiah
8:11) “And they have lightly healed the pain of my people saying: Peace,
peace; and there is no peace.
If the regime were faithful to its nation, it would be obligated to announce
to the population dwelling in the crowded areas of the coastal plane to spread
out in Judea and Samaria, the area of Jerusalem, north of Ramallah, and south of
Bethlehem, the Judean Desert, the mountain ridge and the length of the Jordan
Valley, in order to prepare for the worst of all, G-d
forbid – a general attack, including a nuclear Iranian attack.
Due to the chances of the feeble regime listening to the words of truth
engraved here is nil, the Jewish public is obligated to make its own conclusions
and to care for its fate.
Leadership acceptable to the public is obligated to
encourage building in all parts of Judea and Samaria, Jerusalem and the Golan.
It is incumbent for the Jewish Nation to organize and gather means to this end
without delay to thwart the decision of the surrendering government. The
Sanhedrin intends to organize the Jewish Nation as a public entity. The

"In order to avoid collapse that would entail, Heaven

cost of his life, while, on the other hand, any effort must be taken to rescue
him immediately through using the lives of murderous
terrorists we have in our hands as hostages," explained the rabbis.
According to the "Sanhedrin," "These monstrous prisoner release
deals, like the Tannenbaum deal and the Kuntar deal in which corpses
were returned in exchange for the release of masses of murderers, are road
signs on the way to surrender. The central figures promoting these moves are
politicians, academics, members of the media, the Peace Now movement, and public
relations representatives who receive massive funding from
foreign enemy countries for despicable acts of treason."
Instead of continuing negotiations and moving towards carrying out the

and ensure its fate" by recruiting building efforts

entity in and of itself, separate from the feeble government. The 'Sanhedrin'

Adin Steinzaltz Teacher, philosopher, social critic and prolific
author who has been hailed by Time magazine as a

The Beit Din of the Sanhedrin decided, (Vipers den)
when in convened on 2 Sh’vat 5759 (27 January 2009) to establish a commission
of enquiry into the various aspects of the military operation in Gaza and to
publish the intermediate results given the reasons detailed below.
The Beit Din of the Sanhedrin released its decisions in the matter of Israel
Defense Force’s military actions in Gaza and its intensity on 10 Tevet,
included as an addendum to this document. It concluded
that there is a necessity to unconditionally subdue the
enemy, i.e., all terrorist organizations and those who support them, throughout
Gaza, and indicated that there were no goals determined for the war.
Likewise, it determined that a temporary military administration for Gaza should
be implemented.
Approximately three weeks after the Israeli government decided to cease the
military operation, the Beit Din thought it appropriate to state, as a
preliminary decision, the immediate findings until the publication of the full
findings of the commission of enquiry of the Sanhedrin. It did this because of
the serious consequences that come to light daily, and the growing influence of
election concerns on actions, and the oversights in the Gaza Strip.
The commission of enquiry for the
Sanhedrin works jointly with and in consultation with experts on military and
security issues who desire to remain anonymous.
Preliminary conclusions:
The prevailing public impression is that the general military readiness had
improved. This is because both the fighting morale and readiness of the soldiers
of the Israel Defense Force reflected the internalization of the conclusions as
a result of the war in Lebanon.
The improvements are evident in the planning of the war, the evaluation in
the field, the logistics and the supplies.
In the necessary changes in the attitude of the military which got rid of
pronouncements that demoralized it for many years with

The re-established "Sanhedrin" convened to hold its monthly meeting
this week, with the question of the Holy Temple's precise location the main
topic on the agenda.
The Sanhedrin heard expert testimony on the various opinions as to the exact
part of the Temple Mount upon which the Holy Temple stood. The fact that there
has never been an archaeological expedition or dig on the Temple Mount, coupled
with continuous Muslim efforts to destroy historical evidence of the Holy Temple
at the site, have made determining the exact location difficult.
Identifying the spot on which the Temple stood is a matter of controversy

stood south of that spot, approximately behind the present-day Western Wall, was

Vatican denies Pope was involved in sex abuse cover up
The Vatican has denied claims that Pope Benedict XVI failed to defrock a US
priest who was accused of molesting up to 200 deaf boys over several years
A Vatican newspaper editorial said the
claims were an "ignoble" attack on the Pope and that there was no
"cover-up", the BBC reports.
Archbishops had complained about Fr Lawrence Murphy in the 1990s to a Vatican
office led by the future pope, but apparently received no response
But the Pope's spokesman defended him, saying the Vatican department which
the future pontiff was in charge of had not been informed of these latest
allegations until 1996 - 20 years after the priest's victims first informed the
police.
Arthur Budzinski is one of Father Murphy's alleged victims. He said that the
first time the priest molested him, he was 12 years old, alone and away from
home at a school for the deaf. He said he asked the Rev. Lawrence Murphy to hear
his confession, and instead the priest took him into a closet under the stairs
and sexually assaulted him.
Father Murphy was also accused of molesting boys in the confessional, in
dormitories, in closets and during field trips while working at the school for
the deaf from the 1950s through 1974. He died in 1998 at age 72.
Allegations against Father Murphy resurfaced this week after documents
obtained by The New York (Chewyork) Times
apparently showed that he was spared a defrocking in the mid-1990s because he
was protected by the Vatican office led by Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, now the
Pope.
The Vatican strongly defended its decision not to defrock Father Murphy and
denounced what it called a campaign to smear the Pope and
his aides.

VATICAN CITY -- The Vatican is facing one of its
gravest crises of modern times as sex abuse scandals move ever closer to Pope
Benedict XVI - threatening not only his own legacy but also that of his revered
predecessor.
Benedict took a much harder stance on sex abuse than John Paul II when he
assumed the papacy five years ago, disciplining a senior cleric championed by
the Polish pontiff and defrocking others under a new policy of zero tolerance.
But the impression remains of a woefully slow-footed church and
of a pope who bears responsibility for allowing pedophile priests to keep their
parishes.

permission for a woman who molested her young son to marry a high priest.
It concludes, “All agree that the connection of a boy
aged nine years
and a day is a real
connection; whilst that of one less than eight years
is not." 5 Because a boy
under 9 is sexually immature, he can't "throw guilt" on the active
offender, morally or legally. 6
A woman could molest a young boy
without questions of morality even being raised: "…the intercourse of a
small boy is not regarded
as a sexual act." 7 The Talmud also says, "A male aged nine
years and a day
who cohabits with his deceased brother's wife acquires her (as wife)." 8
Clearly, the Talmud teaches that a woman is permitted to marry and have sex
with a nine year old boy.
In an editorial on Friday, the National Catholic Reporter in the United
States called on Benedict to answer questions about his role "in the
mismanagement" of sex abuse cases, not only in the current crisis but
during his tenure in the 1980s as archbishop of Munich and then as head of the
Vatican's doctrinal and disciplinary office.
It all comes down to the question of what the pope knew and when. The answer
will almost certainly determine the fate of Benedict's papacy.
As he approaches Holy Week, the most solemn period on the Christian calendar,
victims groups and other critics are demanding Benedict accept personal
responsibility. A few say he should
resign.
Some fear the crisis will alienate Catholics from the church, with a survey
in Benedict's native Germany already showing disaffection among Catholics while
there is deep anger in once very Catholic Ireland.
As the climate worsens, the Vatican is showing increasing impatience and even
anger, denouncing what it says is a campaign to smear the
pope.
L'Osservatore Romano, the Vatican newspaper, said this week there was a
"clear and despicable intention" to strike at Benedict "at any
cost."
But as attention focuses on Benedict, a perhaps thornier question looms over
how much John Paul II, beloved worldwide for his inspirational charisma and
courageous stand against communism, knew about sex abuse cases and whether he
was too tolerant of pedophile priests.
John Paul presided over the church when the sex abuse scandal exploded in the
United States in 2002 and the Vatican was swamped with complaints and lawsuits
under his leadership. Yet during most of his 26-year papacy, individual dioceses
and not the Vatican took sole responsibility for investigating misbehavior.
Professor Nick Cafardi, a canon and civil lawyer and former chairman of the
U.S. bishops lay review board that monitored abuse, said Benedict was "very
courageous" to reverse Vatican support for the Legionaries of Christ, a sex
scandal-tainted organization staunchly defended by John Paul.
John Paul was already ailing from Parkinson's disease when the U.S. scandal
erupted, a factor supporters say may have kept him from initially realizing its
scope.
While Cardinal Bernard Law became the most high-profile church figure to
fall, resigning as archbishop of Boston over the scandal, John Paul gave him a
soft landing, appointing him as head of a Rome basilica and keeping him on
various Vatican committees.
The world-traveling John Paul has been put on a fast track for sainthood by
Benedict in response to popular demand. Cardinal Jose Saraiva Martins, the
emeritus head of the Vatican's saint-making office,
said this week that historians who studied the pope's life didn't find anything
problematic in John Paul's handling of abuse scandals.
"According to them there was nothing that was a true obstacle to his
cause of beatification. They are very strict," Saraiva Martins said.
For Benedict, a quiet intellectual who will be 83 next month, the scandal
must be trying.
Until recently, Benedict had received high marks for his handling of sex
abuse - seen as a bright spot amid turmoil over his remarks linking
Islam to violence and his rehabilitation of an ultraconservative bishop
who denies the Holocaust.
Shortly before his election as pope in 2005 he had denounced
"filth" in the church - widely viewed as a reference to clerics who
abused children. He proclaimed a policy of zero tolerance for offenders and met
and prayed with victims while traveling in the United States and Australia.
Benedict won praise for moving against the Legionaries of Christ, the
conservative order once hailed by John Paul that fell into scandal after it
revealed that its founder had fathered a child and had molested seminarians.
The Vatican began investigating allegations against the Rev. Marcial Maciel
of Mexico in the 1950s, but it wasn't until 2006, a year into Benedict's
pontificate, that the Vatican instructed Maciel to lead a "reserved life of
prayer and penance" in response to the abuse allegations - effectively
removing him from power.
But reaction changed as the abuse scandal moved across Europe and into
Benedict's native Germany in recent months, touching the pontiff himself with a
case dating to his tenure as archbishop of Munich.
The former vicar general of the Munich archdiocese has absolved the pope of
responsibility in the case of the Rev. Peter Hullermann, accused of abusing
boys.
While then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger was involved in a 1980 decision to
transfer Hullermann to Munich for therapy, Ratzinger's then-deputy took
responsibility for a subsequent decision to let the priest return to pastoral
duties. Hullermann was convicted of sexual abuse in 1986.
However, the New York Times reported Friday that Ratzinger was copied in on a
memo stating Hullermann would be returned to pastoral work within days of
beginning psychiatric treatment. The archdiocese insisted Ratzinger was unaware
of the decision and that any other version was "mere speculation."
In another case, documents show the Vatican office responsible for
disciplining priests, while headed by Ratzinger, halted a church trial of a
Milwaukee priest accused of molesting some 200 deaf boys from 1950-1975.
Two Wisconsin bishops had urged the Vatican to approve the proceeding against
the Rev. Lawrence Murphy, arguing that even though it was years after the
alleged abuse, the deaf community in Milwaukee was demanding justice. The trial
was approved in 1997, only to be halted after an appeal by the priest to
Ratzinger. Murphy died in 1998.
Murphy's eventual punishment was a restriction on celebrating Mass and on
visiting the deaf community.
Such light disciplinary measures remain the norm in the majority of sex abuse
cases.
Of the 3,000 cases the Vatican has received since 2001, only 20 percent have
gone to a full canonical trial, the Vatican's chief prosecutor Monsignor Charles
Scicluna said. Disciplinary sanctions were imposed in 60 percent, such as
priests being ordered to live a retired life of prayer and not celebrate Mass
publicly; in only 10 percent were the accused priests defrocked.
The abuse crisis in the United States, which involved 4 percent of the
American priesthood, showed a pattern of bishops covering for errant clerics, at
times moving them from parish to parish. The latest documents point to Vatican
complicity, although the Vatican denies there was any cover-up.
Defenders of Benedict, such as British Archbishop Vincent Nichols, say that
as cardinal he made important changes in church law to crack down on offenders
and was not an "idle observer."
French bishops rallied around Benedict in a letter on Friday, saying while
they deplored clerical sex abuse, the issue "is being used in a campaign to
attack you personally."
Still, it is in Germany where Benedict's popularity has taken a real hit.
A poll in Stern magazine released this week shows only 39 percent of
Germany's Catholics trust the pope, down from 62 percent in late January. Some
34 percent trust the Catholic church as an institution, down from 56 percent in
January. The margin of error was 2.5 percentage points.
Rainer Kampling, a professor of Catholic theology at Berlin Free University,
says the idea that the pope might resign - slipping polls not withstanding - is
hardly realistic. "The pope is not a politician," he said.
Herbert Kohlmaier, chairman of an Austrian Catholic group that has criticized
Benedict, also said a resignation shouldn't be expected. "They certainly
won't let a symbolic figure like that go."
While church law allows for the resignation of a pope, there are few
precedents over the church's two millennium history. The last was by
15th-century Pope Gregory XII, and that was not over scandal but rather a schism
in the church.

Nearly 300 in Congress back keeping U.S.-Israel disputes private

WASHINGTON (JTA) -- More than half the members of the
U.S. House of Representatives have signed onto a letter urging President Obama
to keep his disputes with Israel out of the public eye.
The letter, initiated last week by a bipartisan slate of leaders, including
U.S. Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), the U.S. House of Representatives majority
leader, and Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.), the House minority leader, says, "differences
are best resolved quietly, in trust and confidence, as befits longstanding
strategic allies."
By Thursday, 295 members out of 431 currently sitting had signed the letter.
The letter was part of the package for which thousands of activists from the American
Israel Public Affairs Committee had been lobbying Tuesday in their annual
Capitol Hill lobbying blitz, which followed AIPAC's annual
policy conference.
Tensions have flared over the last two weeks between the administrations of
President Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after Israel
announced plans for 1,600 new housing units in a Jewish neighborhood of eastern
Jerusalem during a visit to Israel by U.S. Vice President Joe Biden aimed at
underscoring close U.S.-Israel ties.

WASHINGTON (JTA) -- U.S. Rep. Eric Cantor said he has
received threats partly because he is Jewish.
Cantor, the U.S. House of Representatives minority whip, held a news
conference Thursday to accuse Democrats of exploiting what he depicted as
routine incidents of hate mail in order to blame conservative rhetoric for
a rising tide of violence in the wake of the Democrats' health care win.
"I've received threats since I assumed elected office, not only because
of my positions, but because I am Jewish,"
Cantor said. "I've never blamed anyone in this body for that. Period. Any
suggestion that a leader in this body that would incite threats or acts against
other members is akin to saying that I would endanger myself, my wife or my
children."
Cantor said he got threatening emails, but that he would not release them so
as not to encourage more. Democratic leaders accusing conservatives of
incitement are "reckless," Cantor said.
The Democrats, in announcing heightened security measures this week, have
said the attacks -- including some on congressional offices -- are an
intensification of the routine flow of hate mail. Party leaders also have blamed
Tea Party activists, who flooded the Capitol during the vote, hurling epithets
at black and gay lawmakers. At least one Jewish lawmaker was also targeted with
anti-Semitic mail.

AIPAC, congressmen seek to add enforcement teeth to Iran sanctions

WASHINGTON -- Rules without enforcement don't mean much.
That’s the new tone the
American Israel Public Affairs Committee and its supporters on Capitol Hill are
taking when it comes to Iran sanctions.
This week, congressional appropriators close to
AIPAC moved to introduce enforcement language that would penalize federal
agencies that contract with companies doing business with the Islamic Republic.
"If the existing lock on the door was not doing the job, this is a much
more powerful lock we're placing on the door of companies who would want to do
business with Iran," said U.S. Rep. Steve Rothman (D-N.J.), who is pushing
the language with fellow U.S. House of Representatives appropriators, Reps.
Steve
Israel
(D-N.Y.) and Mark Kirk (R-Ill.). All three are known
for close ties to the Jewish state.
Setting the wheels in motion for the new legislation was the revelation in
The New York Times on March 6 that sanctions busters had garnered $107 billion
in U.S. government money for procurement business, grants and loans.
In a rare move for a lobby best known for its behind-the-scenes profile,
AIPAC sent letters to every member of Congress expressing its outrage over the
sanctions violations.
"These ongoing financial dealings undermine longstanding American
efforts to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapons capability," the
letter said. "While Presidents Clinton, Bush and Obama may have discouraged
some investment in Iran through their rhetoric, the United States has sent the
American and international business community a contradictory message by failing
to enforce the law."
AIPAC's letter has had an effect.
Rothman said he already was planning action as soon as he read the story, but
the calls
and emails he received made it a must-do. "My Blackberry was burning,"
he said.

Rep. Israel raised the issue with Treasury
Secretary Tim Geithner on Thursday in a hearing of the foreign operations
subcommittee of the Appropriations Committee. Geithner was receptive.
"We would be open to any effective means for bringing greater pressure
to bear on this government," he said. "We share your commitment to
this and we'll work with you to explore any feasible means to bring greater
pressure to bear on this government."
Rep. Israel later said he
was satisfied.
"The administration clearly got the message," he said, noting that
Obama's predecessor, President George W. Bush, had not enforced the sanctions
for both of his terms. "I don't want to proclaim
victory yet; we still have work to do."
The legislation would attach "limiting" amendments to all 12 budget
bills that Congress must pass, preventing funds from going to companies that
engage in activity eligible for sanctions or own or control any party that
engages in such activity. This latter practice was a common dodge by U.S.-owned
companies to enable foreign-owned subsidiaries to deal with Iran.
The legislation comes the same week that AIPAC drew
nearly 8,000 attendees to its annual policy conference. AIPAC activists
lobbied Tuesday for final passage of bills to enhance sanctions in existence
since the mid 1990s. Bills have passed in the House and Senate and are now
undergoing "reconciliation."
The existing sanctions banned most U.S. business dealings with Iran. Yet, the
Times found in its March 6 report, 49 U.S. companies were doing business with
Iran, and those doing business with Iran's energy sector had gotten $15 billion.
The existing sanctions restrict access to U.S. markets for foreign entities
doing business with Iran's energy sector. The enhanced sanctions would outright
ban U.S. business with any entity doing business with Iran's energy sector and
would also target Iran's financial sector. The sanctions also would reduce the
$20 million ceiling for overseas companies doing such business to $1 million.
The idea is to force overseas markets into a choice between trading with the
United States or with Iran.

The New York Times revelations were a bitter pill for AIPAC’s activists. The
flagrant violation of the 1996 bill that AIPAC had been instrumental in
supporting was a damper for AIPAC activists famous for their enthusiasm.
"It's frustrating, a dead end," said Debbie Farnoush, 26, from Los
Angeles and a founder of the Iranian-American group 30 Years After. "I feel
like we're not going anywhere." Still, she said, she wasn't going to give
up. The United States needs to be "more aggressive,” she said.

activist, was optimistic about the prospect of tougher enforcement. "Most
members of Congress are sympathetic,” he said. "It's not a matter of
convincing; it's a matter of implementing."
Keith Weissman, who headed AIPAC's Iran desk until 2005, said that Clinton
administration officials made it clear to him from the beginning that the bill
was never going to be enforced because it crimped U.S. trade with foreign
businesses. Clinton's 1995 executive order banning business with Iran's energy
sector had been enforced for a short period, and had spooked the oil industry
enough that the 1996 bill was used as leverage -- but never in deed.
Part of the problem, Weissman said, was that after years of threatening and
not implementing, companies that wanted to deal with Iran realized the U.S.
government was crying wolf.

Weissman and his boss, Steve Rosen, were fired by AIPAC
in 2005 under pressure from prosecutors seeking an
indictment against the men for relaying national security information to
journalists, colleagues and Israeli diplomats. The prosecution dropped
the case a year ago after the presiding judge ruled
that much of the government's case violated constitutional principles, including
free speech rights.
Weissman, who no longer believes sanctions to be effective, said the
amendments now under consideration would create a cumbersome bureaucracy, with
multiple U.S. agencies vetting hundreds of businesses.
"What, are you going to vet the company that provides food to soldiers,
that helps export oil from Iraq, that caters parties at the Baghdad
embassy?" he asked.
Rep. Israel dismisses the idea that the amendments are unworkable.
"There can be no argument that once a law is
passed and signed by the president that it's too complicated to enforce,"
he said. "Whether it's a contract, a grant or a loan, whether it's a penny,
a dime or a dollar, we will not allow them to spend the money."

JERUSALEM (JTA) -- The United Nations Human Rights
Council passed three resolutions that condemn Israel and another seeking
reparations for Gaza Palestinians.
The United States opposed the resolutions, which
passed by a large margin Wednesday and Thursday.
On Wednesday, the 47-member council passed resolutions that condemn Israel's "grave
human rights violations" in the
West Bank
and Gaza, and call on Israel to pull out of territory claimed by the
Palestinians; call on Israel to stop settlement building and evacuate existing
settlements; and condemn Israel for the "systematic violation of the rights
of the people of the occupied Syrian Golan Heights,"
according to Reuters.
A resolution passed Thursday called on Israel to compensate Palestinians in
Gaza for damage and loss incurred during Operation Cast Lead.
Israel has been censured by the council, which was
formed in 2006, more times than any other country.

Jefferson was a deist - about as non-Catholic as they get. Any integration of Catholicism into mainstream American life would have him in fits. He also does not mention "rabbi" or "rabbinism" at any point in the linked-to documents. He also expresses profuse admiration for Spinosa, the medieval Jewish philosopher.
