Thursday to reject groups and individuals calling themselves Jewish who
promote Christian belief as a part of Jewish identity.
Individuals professing a belief in Christian theology have left the Jewish
faith and become apostates, even if they continue to identify as Jewish, the
group said.
Such individuals should not be allowed to enlist in the IDF or participate
in activities on behalf of the Jewish people or the Jewish state, they said, because
their goal is usually to convince other Jews to accept the Christian faith.
Members of the Sanhedrin said non-Jews, including Christians who identify
themselves as Christian and not Jewish, should be allowed to act on behalf of
the Jews or the Jewish state if they so wish, because they are not falsely
representing themselves or attempting to convert Jews away from their faith.
The ruling came as part of the controversy over this year’s annual Bible
quiz. One of the teens who participated in the competition belongs to a
family of “Messianic Jews”—Jews who accept Christian beliefs but insist
that such beliefs are actually Jewish.

DEBKAfile's Washington source report that in a
telephone conversation with prime minister Ehud Olmert, US president George W.
Bush okayed Israeli air, sea and ground operations against Hamas in the Gaza
Strip. He promised the US would veto a resolution condemning Israel at the UN
Security Council meeting next Monday. Early Saturday morning, Jan. 3, Day 8 of
Israel's Gaza operation, US and British media described the Israeli invasion as
hours away.
In his weekly radio address - brought forward by a day, the
US president spoke with exceptional firmness: "Another one-way ceasefire
that leads to rocket attacks on Israel is not acceptable," he said.
"This recent outburst of violence was instigated by Hamas – a Palestinian
terrorist group supported by Iran and Syria that calls for Israel's
destruction."
He noted that "Hamas took over the Gaza Strip in a coup
and routinely violated an Egyptian-brokered ceasefire…" and went on to
define the exit point for Israel's military operation:
"Promises from Hamas will not suffice," he said.
There must be "monitoring mechanisms in place to help ensure that smuggling
of weapons to terrorist groups in Gaza comes to an end."
NATO ?
This left Israel the option of sustaining its military
activity against Hamas until such a mechanism was installed. He implicitly
criticized Egypt for failing to control the smuggling of rockets and other
munitions through its territory.
Israel is poised to launch a major ground offensive into Gaza tonight after
allowing hundreds of foreigners living in the devastated territory to evacuate.
After a week of air strikes that have killed at least 420 Palestinians and
left scores of buildings in rubble, the Israeli army was set to fling hundreds
of troops and tanks into a blitz to stamp out Hamas’s military wing, The Times
understands.
Despite the looming onslaught, more Hamas rockets – which have so far
killed four Israelis – were fired into southern Israel today.
The Islamist group vowed that its attacks, which have lasted for years and
which finally provoked the massive Israeli campaign, would not stop.
A small column of Israeli military vehicles, backed by combat helicopters,
rolled into the northern Gaza Strip on Saturday, a Palestinian witness said.
The witness, a resident of the northern Gaza town of Beit Lahiya, said the
column crossed the boundary fence under darkness. The witness could not
immediately say how deep the Israelis penetrated into Palestinian territory.

ANALYSIS / Israel must prepare to turn its military might from
Gaza to Iran
Brig. Gen. Sami Turjeman is commander of the 36th Division in
the Golan Heights, and is one of the most outstanding officers of his rank in
the Israel Defense Forces. He is expected to be promoted this year to the rank
of major general. Turjeman was head of the operations division at the General
Staff during the tempestuous years of 2006 and 2007 - when the IDF embarked
simultaneously on operations in both Lebanon and in the Gaza Strip, in the wake
of the abduction of Gilad Shalit, and then attacked the North Korean nuclear
reactor in Syria.
A few weeks ago, shortly before he set out for a visit to brigade commander Avi
Peled and the Golani and Armored Corps fighters, as they undertook maneuvers not
far from his headquarters in the Golan Heights, Turjeman pointed to a corner in
his office. He had heard from Avigdor Kahalani, one of his predecessors in the
36th Brigade, that a secret opening to a tunnel that led to a bunker, to which
the commander can escape in the event that Syrian tanks surround the command
center, was concealed there.
The lines of Syrian armored columns between Damascus and the border have not
been at the top of the IDF's list of concerns in recent years, nor has that
country's air force. Indeed, in Turjeman's opinion, the Arabs have - in practice
although not in theory - very effective air forces. He's thinking not of their
airplanes, but rather of the fact that everything that hits Israel from the sky
is considered "air force," and involves missile and rocket systems of
different types and ranges, which are in the possession of various countries and
organizations. Kiryat Shmona, Be'er Sheva, the Israel Air Force bases at Tel Nof,
Hatzerim and Hatzor, and other bases and essential installations - all are
within the scope of this danger.
It is no wonder the U.S. Army, which
has 100 soldiers manning the large radar installation in the Negev meant to
detect Iranian missiles, has hastened to assure its troops that they are not at
risk.
Facing an
"air force of the poor," this week Israel mainly deployed its own
splendid IAF. It's an
acclaimed force, and rightly so, because in Israel, there is the IDF, and then
there is the air force, and they are two organizations of different levels.
The ground forces need many junior officers for a short period, whereas the air
force needs junior officers for long periods. The need for the mass production
of the first sort - i.e., of platoon commanders - as compared to the qualitative
selectiveness used with respect to the second sort - air crews (and naval
officers) - is reflected in the difference between the levels of the two
organizations. This difference has been exacerbated over the years, because in
the IAF the selection process continues with those who hope to climb to command
and high command levels. In the ground forces, on the other hand, there is a
more arbitrary or random placement for soldiers aged 18 or 19, for example, in
the artillery and not in the Paratroops.
Discussions about the "land maneuvers" that are the ground forces'
part of the operation in Gaza, are promissory notes still waiting to be cashed.
There cannot be an expanded operation without IAF support, both fire power and
reconnaissance, especially while the ground forces have been waiting for
conditions that will enable them to enter the Strip.
The IDF of the Second Lebanon War, under the command of Dan Halutz, was not all
that bad, and the IDF of today, under the command of Gabi Ashkenazi, is not all
that good. It is the same army that was brought out of Lebanon in 2000 by Ehud
Barak, when he was prime minister, and by Ashkenazi, when he was GOC Northern
Command. Parts of it are disciplined and professional, and parts are in real
need of improvement.
As has always been the case with Ashkenazi, the IDF is a pistol that has had a
silencer affixed to it. Only the General Staff talks, and it does so in a single
voice. The IAF and the Southern Command, which have been doing most of the work,
have been forbidden to speak to the media.
During the first days of the current campaign, until the disagreements in the
managing quintet of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni,
Barak, Ashkenazi and Shin Bet security service chief Yuval Diskin began to
bubble over, the politicians and generals in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv were
enjoying a popular sense that the operation was not only justified, but also
successful. In reality, this was not more true than in the parallel days of July
2006, before the hesitations and the marching in place set in, but the positive
atmosphere of this week can be attributed to a combination of changes.
The general impression is that this time the launching of the (Hamas) rockets
preceded the (Israeli) aerial action, rather than followed it - even though the
Hezbollah attack in the north, when Eldad Regev and Ehud Goldwasser were
abducted, which is what sparked Israel's offensive, also included a bombardment.
The reserves that have been called up are not intended to participate in the
fighting - or to lead the protest once it is over - but rather to reinforce the
troops of the standing army who are sent in to fight.
The tone of the media is positive, because the whole element of personal enmity
among career army and reserve officers - and the broadcasters close to them -
toward Halutz and the commander of the 91st Division, Gal Hirsch, vanished with
their retirement. The bad feelings toward Halutz and Hirsch - and of Halutz
toward Hirsch - have dissipated along with the entry of the new management,
which replaced the commanders in 2006. The IDF, having learned the lessons of
the veteran generals in the ground forces who voiced their frustrations
publicly, has grown wiser and has recruited them into its service. The
TV studios are the same TV studios, and the generals are the same generals, but
now they are spokesmen for the establishment, not its critics.
U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates wrote last month that
in Lebanon, Hezbollah won "a propaganda victory" over Israel. Now it
appears that it also inflicted a domestic victory within Israel concerning the
image of the army. This impression is truly deceptive, just like the originality
that is attributed to the name of the operation, "Cast Lead" - a
recycled name that is eight and a half years old, which served to describe the
events that took place on Nakba Day (the Palestinians' commemoration of what
they call the "catastrophe" of the creation of Israel in 1948) in May
2000.
Gaza is a far simpler sector than Lebanon - narrow, short, bounded, flat and
exposed - and even though there too explosive charges, anti-tank ambushes and
suicide terrorists are waiting, in Golani they are describing it as more of a
company-level war game than a brigade maneuver. What they are aspiring to
achieve in Gaza is just what was accomplished in Lebanon: a situation where even
if Hamas/Hezbollah is left at the end of the fighting with rockets, it won't
dare fire them. If no Qassam is launched from Gaza for two and a half years,
then they will see this as a major achievement, in the hope that the
public
that became embittered by the results of the Lebanon war will respond with
satisfaction this time.

The austerity of the planners of the current operation suggests that they are
aspiring to a certain, realistic degree of success, at the price of a diplomatic
defeat: acceptance of Hamas rule in Gaza, both in terms of relinquishing the
idea of getting rid of it, and in negotiating with it on an agreement that will
lead to the end of the operation, before the price in IDF casualties and to
civilian locales inside Israel, on the eve of an election, starts to become too
heavy.
Such an outcome, even if it is considered better than the situation that
preceded the operation, and is preferable to becoming bogged down in a prolonged
stay in the Gaza Strip, will nevertheless be a badge of shame for Israel, until
another explanation is needed to explain Israel's ability to make do with the
outcome: Iran. Barak and Ashkenazi tried until the past few weeks to avoid the
operation in Gaza, for which GOC Southern Command Yoav Gallant had been pushing
(with the support of the IAF) for a very long time in order to thwart the
strengthening of Hamas before it reaches its peak.
On the 14th story in the IDF headquarters in the Kirya in Tel Aviv, where the
defense minister and the chief of staff have their bureaus, there is concern
about an even more serious problem than rockets in Ashdod and Be'er Sheva. Barak,
especially, has been concerned that the IDF will be drawn into Gaza, even if not
in all its brigades and divisions, but certainly with the attention of the
commanders and with a burden on the air force.
Therefore, the IDF must move quickly to disengage,
in order
to free its attention for the paramount task of preparing a military blow to
Iran, if diplomacy
and deterrence fail. As long as the great threat of Iranian power is hovering,
the smaller threats of Hezbollah and Hamas that derive from it will not be
dispelled. Cast lead, heavy as it may be, is still easier to digest than
enriched uranium.

Cong. Barney Frank said recently that Barack Obama’s declaration that
“there is only one president at a time” over-estimated the number. He was
referring to the economic crisis. But where are you on the Gaza crisis where
the civilian population of Gaza, its civil servants and public facilities are
being massacred and destroyed respectively by U.S built F-16s and U.S. built
helicopter gunships.
The deliberate suspension of your power to stop this
terrorizing of 1.5 million people, mostly refugees, blockaded for months by
air, sea and land in their tiny slice of land, is in cowardly contrast to
the position taken by President Dwight Eisenhower in 1956. That year
he single handedly stopped the British, French and Israeli aircraft attack
against Egypt during the Suez Canal dispute.
Fatalities in Gaza are already over 400 and injuries close to 2000 so far as
is known. Total Palestinian civilian casualties are 400
times greater then the casualties incurred by Israelis. But
why should anyone be surprised at your blanket support for Israel’s attack
given what you have done to a far greater number of civilians in Iraq and
now in Afghanistan?
Confirmed visual reports show that Israeli warplanes and warships have
destroyed or severely damaged police stations, homes, hospitals, pharmacies,
mosques, fishing boats, and a range of public facilities providing
electricity and other necessities.
Why should this trouble you at all? It violates international law, including
the Geneva Conventions and the UN Charter. You too
have repeatedly violated international law and committed serious
constitutional transgressions.
Then there is the matter of the Israeli government blocking imports of
critical medicines, equipment such as dialysis machines, fuel, food, water,
spare parts and electricity at varying intensities for almost two years. The
depleted UN aid mission there has called this illegal blockade a
humanitarian crisis especially devastating to children, the aged and the
infirm. Chronic malnutrition among children is rising rapidly. UN rations
support eighty percent of this impoverished population.
How do these incontrovertible facts affect you? Do you have any empathy or
what you have called Christian charity?
What would a vastly shrunken Texas turned in an encircled Gulag do up
against the 4th most powerful military in the world? Would
these embattled Texans be spending their time chopping wood?
Gideon Levy, the veteran Israeli columnist for Ha’aretz, called the
Israeli attack a “brutal and violent operation” far beyond what was
needed for protecting the people in its south. He added: “The diplomatic
efforts were just in the beginning, and I believe we could have got to a new
truce without this bloodshed…..to send dozens of
jets to bomb a total helpless civilian society with hundreds of bombs—just
today, they were burying five sisters. I mean, this is unheard of. This
cannot go on like this. And this has nothing to do with self-defense or with
retaliation even. It went out of proportion, exactly like two-and-a-half
years ago in Lebanon.”
Apparently, thousands of Israelis, including some army reservists, who have
demonstrated against this destruction of Gaza agree with Mr. Levy. However,
their courageous stands have not reached the mass media in the U.S. whose
own reporters cannot even get into Gaza due to Israeli prohibitions on the
international press.
Your spokespeople are making much ado about the breaking of the six month
truce. Who is the occupier?
Who is the most powerful military force? Who controls
and blocks the necessities of life? Who has sent raiding missions
across the border most often? Who has sent artillery shells and missiles at
close range into populated areas? Who has refused the repeated comprehensive
peace offerings of the Arab countries issued in 2002 if Israel would agree
to return to the 1967 borders and agree to the creation of a small
independent Palestinian state possessing just twenty two percent of the
original Palestine?
The “wildly inaccurate rockets”, as reporters describe them, coming from
Hamas and other groups cannot compare with the modern precision armaments
and human damage generated from the Israeli side.
There are no rockets coming from the West Bank into Israel. Yet the Israeli
government is still sending raiders into that essentially occupied
territory, still further entrenching its colonial outposts, still taking
water and land and increasing the checkpoints This is going on despite a
most amenable West Bank leader, Mahmoud Abbas, whom you have met with at the
White House and praised repeatedly. Is it all vague words and no real
initiatives with you and your emissary Condoleezza Rice?
Peace was possible, but you provided no leadership,
preferring instead to comply with all wishes and demands by the Israeli
government—even resupplying it with the still active cluster bombs in
south Lebanon during the invasion of that country in 2006.
The arguments about who started the latest hostilities go on and on with
Israel always blaming the Palestinians to justify all
kinds of violence and harsh treatment against innocent civilians.
From the Palestinian standpoint, you would do well to remember the origins
of this conflict which was the dispossession of their lands. To afford you
some empathy, recall the oft-quoted comment by the founder of Israel, David
Ben-Gurion, who told the Zionist leader, Nahum Goldmann:
“There has been anti-Semitism the Nazis Hitler
Auschwitz but was that their [the Palestinians] fault? They only see one
thing: We have come here and stolen their country. Why should they accept
that?”
Alfred North Whitehead once said: “Duty arises out of the power to
alter the course of events.” By that standard, you have shirked mightily
your duty over the past eight years to bring peace to both Palestinians and
Israelis and more security to a good part of the world.
The least you can do in your remaining days at the White House is adopt a
modest profile in courage, and vigorously demand and secure a ceasefire and
a solidly based truce. Then your successor, President-elect Obama can
inherit something more than the usual self-censoring Washington puppet show
that eschews a proper focus on the national interests of the United States.

NATO leader to arrive for talks
Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, the
secretary-general of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, is expected to
arrive in Israel next weekend for talks with senior members of the cabinet and
Israel Defense Forces officers.
According to sources (Liars of their father)
in Jerusalem, Scheffer will not be discussing the possible stationing of NATO
troops along the border with Egypt after the completion of Operation Cast Lead -
an option entertained by some opinion-shapers commenting on the situation in
Gaza.
Scheffer's visit was scheduled six weeks ago, as a
going-away tour for the outgoing secretary-general, who will be finishing his
term in summer. Scheffer will meet Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Foreign Minister
Tzipi Livni, Defense Minister Ehud Barak and Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi.
In terms of protocol, a future stationing of NATO troops
in Gaza would require a request by a member state for the move. The U.S., which
is NATO's leading power, has not filed such a request to date.
Gen. James Jones, President-elect Barack Obama's pick for
White House national security adviser, is believed to favor posting troops in
Gaza. However, he will not enter the post before the end of January.
Another obstacle for such a move could come from internal disagreements between
the U.S. and the rest of NATO's members.

and Israel to boost anti-terror cooperation, military exercises
BRUSSELS (EJP)---NATO and
Israel will boost their cooperation in security, counter-terrorism, intelligence
exchanges and in joint military exercises.
The NATO Council, which groups the Foreign
Ministers of the Alliance of 26 countries from North America and Europe,
ratified Tuesday in Brussels the Individual Cooperation Programme (ICP) during
the visit of Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni to the organisation’s
headquarters.
The ICP signed by NATO and Israel in October
2006 was updated to reinforce it, a NATO official said.
The commander-in-chief of the Israeli army,
Lieutenant-General Gaby Ashkenazi, visited the NATO headquarters two weeks
ago.
Tzipi Livni welcomed the boosting of political
and security ties between her country and the alliance.
"Israel's defense
capabilities are world-famous, and we see the boosting of cooperation between
Israel and international security bodies as a strategic goal that adds to
Israel's strength,” she declared.
"All of the free nations of the world who
understand the nature of the terrorist threat recognize the need to form a
united front against it.”
The agreement to reinforce the cooperation
“signifies genuine recognition of Israel's special contribution to the
international fight against extremism."
The Israeli Foreign Minister met at NATO with
counterparts from NATO and Arab nations in the framework of the
organisation’s Mediaterranean Dialogue.
This body was launched in
1994 and includes today seven states: Israel, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco,

Israeli tanks and troops have launched a ground invasion to reoccupy
parts of the northern Gaza strip as the military escalated its
assault on the Palestinian enclave in an attempt to curb Hamas rocket
attacks on Israel.

With Israel's chief military spokesman warning that the attack would take
"many long days", the Israeli Cabinet
also authorised the call of thousands more reservists. As Israeli tanks and
infantry crossed into northern Gaza reports began to
emerge of fighting between Hamas and Israeli troops. The invasion comes
after Hamas warned Israeli forces entering Gaza faced a "black
destiny" and vowed that they would be defeated.
Palestinian witnesses said a small column of military vehicles moved
across the border firing tracer bullets after dark. The Israeli army said
the assault is intended to take control of territory in the north of the
Gaza strip from where Hamas fires its rockets.
"The objective is to destroy the Hamas terror infrastructure in the
area of operations," said a spokeswoman, Major Avital Leibovitch.
"We are going to take some of the launch areas used by Hamas."
However, Israel said this is not the start of a
reoccupation of Gaza.
Hours earlier, an intense Israeli artillery assault along the border,
apparently intended to drive away enemy forces and clear mines or roadside
bombs, cleared the way for the incursion.
The ground offensive followed a day of heavy air, sea and artillery
bombardment of Gaza that left at least 11 people,
including children, dead and dozens wounded when an Israeli missile
strike hit a mosque in Beit Lahiya as worshippers were praying inside.

As diplomatic pressure for a truce gained momentum, the exiled leader of
Hamas, Khaled Meshaal, rejected a ceasefire in Gaza until Israel agrees to
end its three-year blockade of the territory which has caused economic
collapse and widespread hardship.
The latest of more than 700 Israeli aircraft strikes over the past week
also killed another senior Hamas official, Abu Zakaria al-Jamal, a leader of
its armed wing.
Israeli forces attacked the
American school in Gaza, killing a guard. The Israeli military said
the school, which has no links to the US government, was being used to store
Hamas weapons and to shelter its fighters.
But the continued Israeli assault did not stop Hamas from firing rockets.
Fifteen hit Israel yesterday, one of which lightly wounded two people when
it hit an eight-storey building in Ashdod. Another rocket struck an empty
house in Ashkelon, setting it on fire.

As diplomatic efforts continued to reestablish the ceasefire between
Israel and Hamas that collapsed last month, Meshaal said in a televised
address that the organisation had been contacted by European and Arab
countries about a truce.
Egypt says it has begun exploratory talks with Hamas.
President George Bush said in his weekly radio address that Hamas must
take the initiative to end the fighting by halting its rocket fire into
Israel.

not acceptable," he said. "There must be monitoring mechanisms in

But Meshaal said Hamas would not agree to a truce
until Israel stops its attacks and lifts the blockade of Gaza.
"Our demand is clear – that aggression
should end immediately. The siege must be ended and the crossings must all
be opened," he said. "We will not break, we will not surrender or
give in to your conditions."
Check
Meshaal also warned that the organisation would fight an Israeli ground
assault if it comes.
"We are ready for the challenge: this battle was imposed on us and
we are confident we will achieve victory because we have made our
preparations," he said.
Meshaal said Hamas will attempt to capture Israeli combatants and hold
them prisoner alongside Gilad Shalit, the soldier who was snatched from his
armoured vehicle and taken in to Gaza in June 2006. "If you commit a
foolish act by raiding Gaza, who knows – we may have a second or a third
or a fourth Shalit," Meshaal said.
A ground offensive carries great risks for the Israeli military and the
country's political leaders, particularly the defence minister and Labour
party leader, Ehud Barak. His support in the polls in the run-up to next
month's general election has risen sharply over his handling of the assault
on Gaza. But if Israeli military casualties were to rise sharply, or
soldiers were to be captured, as Meshaal threatens, public support for the
war is likely to ebb away.
Still, Barak and the prime minister, Ehud Olmert, may feel they have
little choice but to escalate if the air bombardment continues to fail to
stop Hamas rocket fire. The pressure for more action is likely to intensify
further if there are more Israeli civilian deaths.
Meanwhile, the head of the Arab league, Amr Moussa, said he was
astonished at claims by the Israeli foreign minister, Tzipi Livni, that
there is no humanitarian crisis in the densely populated Gaza strip.
"I am greatly surprised by, and I reject, the words of the Israeli
foreign minister, who asks: 'Is there a humanitarian crisis? There is no
humanitarian crisis in Gaza,'" he said. "This is an astonishing
thing, that after more than 450 victims and more than 2,000 injured... then
it is said there is no humanitarian crisis.
"There may be those that sympathise with such a remark. This is
something we must condemn, and we must say there is a major humanitarian
crisis."
The UN said there is growing shortages of basic foodstuffs and fresh
water because of damage to the infrastructure. The main power plant has shut
down. Fuel for cooking is no longer available.

IDF sources said that the goal was to conquer territory in northern Gaza,
including rocket launch sites. Soldiers from the Armored Corps, Engineering
Corps, and Paratroopers, Givati, Golani brigades were participating in the
fighting, with at least four brigades' worth of troops inside the Gaza Strip.
The sources said that a majority of the rockets fired into Beersheba and
Ashdod were launched from the northern Gaza Strip.
One of the major aims of the
operation was also to deliver a serious blow to the Hamas military wing,
which the IDF estimated had not been severely weakened under the air campaign.

The army is on high alert along the northern border out of concern
that Hizbullah will fire rockets - or use Palestinian proxies to do so - in
response to the IDF's escalation of its operations in Gaza.

This would open a second front for Israel as it operates against
Hamas in
the South.
On Saturday, Saeed Jalili, the
secretary of Iran's Supreme National
Security Council, arrived in Syria to discuss the situation in the Gaza
Strip. According to media reports, Jalili said Iran
and Hizbullah had reached an agreement under which the Lebanese group would
launch rockets into Israel if the IDF began a ground operation in Gaza.
Two weeks ago, the Lebanese army discovered eight Katyushas ready to fire
north of the southern Lebanese town of Nakoura.
Defense officials said at the time that it was likely that Palestinian
groups - which were behind two rocket attacks earlier this year against
Kiryat Shmona and Shlomi - were planning to fire the rockets to demonstrate
their allegiance to Hamas.
"We will not tolerate an attack in the North," a senior defense
official said. "The IDF is versatile and flexible, and if the need
arises, it knows how to move forces and fight on a number of fronts."
We hope the northern border will remain quiet," Defense Minister
Ehud Barak said on Saturday evening. "But we are ready for any
development."
The Second Lebanon War was spurred by the supposed capture of IDF
reservists Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev in a cross-border raid on the
North, two weeks after the IDF invaded Gaza following the abduction of IDF
tank gunner Gilad Schalit by Hamas near Kerem Shalom on June 25, 2006.
Another element that has Israel concerned is that the first anniversary
of the assassination of Imad Mughniyeh - the Hizbullah military commander
who was killed in a Damascus car bombing in February - is approaching and
that the group is seeking revenge.
The fear is that Hizbullah will take advantage of Israel's preoccupation
in Gaza to carry out a retaliatory attack.

These are not locusts, though, but more than 50 Israel
Air Force fighter jets that participated last Saturday in the unprecedented
and astonishing air strike that was the opening act for Operation
Cast Lead against Hamas.
The entire attack, during which 50 Hamas targets were hit, took exactly three
minutes and 40 seconds.
Each green dot on the screen represents four fighter jets which fly in
formation. Each swarm has several "foursomes" and was led by a veteran
pilot who, like a conductor in an orchestra, needed to ensure that all of the
aircraft carried out their missions in complete synchronization.
These new details were revealed on Thursday, the sixth day of Operation
Cast Lead, which until now has been mostly fought by the IAF.
The aircraft have flown close to 600 sorties over Gaza, bombing several
hundred targets from rocket launchers and weapons storehouses to Kassam
manufacturing plants, smuggling tunnels and homes of senior Hamas operatives.
Most of the targets were prepared
ahead of time by the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency), the Southern
Command and Military Intelligence.
During its flights over Gaza, the IAF also works to produce new targets
such as rocket cells and their launchers. Already two years ago, the IAF decided
to open a joint operations center in the Southern Command headquarters in order
to "close" intelligence and operation
"circuits" faster than before.
This center works in cooperation with the IAF's main command-and-control
center located underneath IAF headquarters in Tel Aviv. It is there, that
decisions are made to carry out targeted killings, like the bombing Thursday of
Nizar Rayyan, one of Hamas's top clerics and leaders.
The IAF films almost all of its bombings, not just to be able to release the
videos to the media but more importantly to study the pictures.
"Each operation
is extremely complicated since it requires not just a well-trained pilot but
also precise
(USA)
intelligence on the target's exact location," a defense official explained
Thursday.
One example was in the bombing of weapons-smuggling tunnels in Rafah, along
the Egyptian border. In the video, one can see the bomb dropped by a fighter jet
hit a structure which is built over the tunnel's entrance. Suddenly, several
hundred meters away, there is another explosion at another entrance to the same
tunnel and caused by explosives that were packed inside.
With over 400 Palestinians killed since the beginning of the operation,
the UN has claimed that a quarter are innocent civilians. While
the IDF says it regrets the loss of innocent life, tactically the ratio is
relatively low, considering the urban warfare setting Hamas operates from
within and the fact that the terror group uses civilian infrastructure, as well
as civilians as human shields.

Despite this, the IAF does the maximum to minimize collateral damage and in
many cases calls homes before bombing them to allow the inhabitants several
minutes to evacuate before the bombing.

after Israel launched a ground invasion, diplomats said.

incorporated into U.S. military planning and training.
That was one of the recommendations to help prevent genocide issued by a task
force convened by the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, the American Academy of
Diplomacy and the U.S. Institute of Peace.

The Genocide Prevention Task Force released its 147-page report earlier this
month.
Co-chaired by former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright (Joo)
and former Secretary of Defense William Cohen, (Joo)
the 13-person committee was formed in November 2007 with the goal of generating
concrete recommendations to enhance the U.S. government's capacity to recognize
and respond to threats of genocide. (Bwah haw haw haw haw
haw haw haw, to hell with you Judeo USA) The task force is among a number
of efforts undertaken by the museum in the past few years to shed light on the
issue.
The report argues that preventing genocide “is an achievable goal” that
is not an “inevitable result of 'ancient hatreds' or irrational leaders.”
But the goal, the report states, can be met only with a “blueprint” of
“structures, strategies and partnerships.”

First, the report says, the next U.S. president must “demonstrate at the
outset that preventing genocide and mass atrocities is a national priority” by

That policy should be backed up with “increased and more flexible
funding” for genocide prevention. It suggests that the U.S. Congress invest
$250 million -- “less than a dollar for every American each year” -- in new
funds for crisis prevention and response, with one-fifth of that funding
available for “rapid allocation in support of urgent activities to prevent or
halt emerging crises.”
Incorporating genocide prevention and response into “national policy
guidance and planning for the military and into defense doctrine and training”
is one of five parts of the “comprehensive policy approach” the report
espouses.
The document states that military assets must be considered as one of the
many instruments of national power that the United States must “leverage” in
dealing with genocide, and while “especially relevant when opportunities for
prevention have been lost,” they can “also play an important role in
deterring and suppressing violence.”
The report stresses “early warning and early prevention,” recommending
that the director of national intelligence prepare an “estimate on worldwide
risks of genocide and mass atrocities,” and that “acute warning” of
“potential genocide” be made an “automatic trigger” of policy review.
Engaging leaders and institutions within “high-risk countries” also is
encouraged.

The task force also recommends the creation in the United States of a “new
high-level interagency body” -- an Atrocities Prevention
Committee -- dedicated to respond to threats of genocide. And
internationally, the report states that the United States should launch a
diplomatic initiative “to create an international network for information

In addition to Albright and Cohen, members of the task force included former
U.S. senators John Danforth and Tom Daschle, former top Carter and Clinton
administration official Stuart Eizenstat, former secretary of agriculture Dan
Glickman and former congressmen Vin Weber and Jack Kemp.

"We do not minimize the treasonous nature of
Pollard's espionage, for which he was rightfully arrested, tried, and
sentenced," wrote United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism International
President Raymond Goldstein and Executive Vice President Rabbi Jerome Epstein in
a Dec. 24 letter to the president. "But he has been imprisoned since 1985,
and has served far more time in prison than anyone else convicted of espionage,
even those who were in the pay of enemies of the United States."
"Given the disproportionate length of his sentence, we strongly believe
that it would be an act of kindness consonant with the
deepest American values to grant him clemency," said the letter.

The aerial bombings and the ongoing invasion of Gaza by
Israeli ground forces must be analysed in a historical context. Operation
"Cast Lead" is a carefully planned undertaking, which is part of a
broader military-intelligence agenda first formulated in 2001:

Minister Ehud Barak instructed the Israel Defense Forces to prepare for the
operation over six months ago, even as Israel was beginning to negotiate a

It was Israel which broke the truce on the day of the US
presidential elections, November 4:
"Israel used this distraction to break the ceasefire
between itself and Hamas by bombing the Gaza strip. Israel claimed this
violation of the ceasefire was to prevent Hamas from digging tunnels into
Israeli territory.
The very next day, Israel launched a terrorizing siege of
Gaza, cutting off food, fuel, medical supplies and other necessities in an
attempt to "subdue" the Palestinians while at the same time
engaging in armed incursions.
In response, Hamas and others in Gaza again resorted to
firing crude, homemade, and mainly inaccurate rockets into Israel. During
the past seven years, these rockets have been responsible for the deaths of
17 Israelis. Over the same time span, Israeli Blitzkrieg assaults have
killed thousands of Palestinians, drawing worldwide protest but falling on

Planned Humanitarian Disaster
On December 8, US Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte
was in Tel Aviv for discussions with his Israeli counterparts including the
director of Mossad, Meir Dagan.
"Operation Cast Lead" was initiated two days day
after Christmas. It was coupled with a carefully designed international
Public Relations campaign under the auspices of Israel's Foreign Ministry.
Hamas' military targets are not the main
objective. Operation "Cast Lead" is intended, quite deliberately
to trigger civilian causalities.
What we are dealing with is a "planned
humanitarian disaster" in Gaza.
The longer term objective of this plan, as
formulated by Israeli policy makers is the expulsion of Palestinians from
Palestinian lands:
"Terrorize the civilian population,
assuring maximal destruction of property and cultural resources... [T]he
daily life of the Palestinians must be rendered unbearable: They should be
locked up in cities and towns, prevented from exercising normal economic
life, cut off from workplaces, schools and hospitals, This will encourage
emigration and weaken the resistance to future expulsions" Ur Shlonsky,

"Operation Justified Vengeance"
A turning point has been reached. Operation "Cast
Lead" is part of the broader military-intelligence operation initiated
at the outset the Ariel Sharon government in 2001. It was under Sharon's
"Operation Justified Vengeance" that F-16
fighter planes were initially used to bomb Palestinian cities.
"Operation Justified Vengeance" was presented in
July 2001 to the Israeli government of Ariel Sharon by IDF chief of staff
Shaul Mofaz, under the title "The Destruction of the Palestinian
Authority and Disarmament of All Armed Forces".
"A contingency plan, codenamed Operation Justified
Vengeance, was drawn up last June [2001] to reoccupy all of the West Bank
and possibly the Gaza Strip at a likely cost of "hundreds" of
Israeli casualties." (Washington Times, 19 March 2002).
According to Jane's 'Foreign Report' (July 12, 2001) the
Israeli army under Sharon had updated its plans for an "all-out assault
to smash the Palestinian authority, force out leader Yasser Arafat and kill
or detain its army".
"Bloodshed Justification"
The "Bloodshed Justification" was
an essential component of this plan. The killing of Palestinian civilians
was justified on "humanitarian grounds" in response to suicide
attacks:
The assault would be launched, at the government's
discretion, after a big suicide bomb attack in Israel, causing widespread
deaths and injuries, citing the bloodshed as justification. (Tanya

The Dagan Plan
This operation is also referred to as the "Dagan
Plan", named after Meir Dagan who currently heads Mossad, Israel's
intelligence agency.
Reserve General Meir Dagan was Sharon's national security
adviser during the 2000 election campaign. The plan was apparently drawn up
prior to Sharon's election as Prime Minister in February 2001.
"According to Alex Fishman writing in Yediot Aharonot, the Dagan Plan
consisted in destroying the Palestinian authority and
putting Yasser Arafat 'out of the game'." (Ellis Shulman, "Operation

"As reported in the Foreign Report and disclosed
locally by Maariv,
Israel's invasion plan - reportedly dubbed Justified Vengeance - would
be launched immediately following the next high-casualty suicide bombing,
would last about a month and is expected to result in the death of hundreds
of Israelis and thousands of Palestinians. (Ibid, emphasis added)

The Dagan plan also foresaw the so-called "cantonization"
of the Palestinian territories whereby the West Bank
and Gaza would be totally cut off from each other, with separate
"governments" in each of the territories. Under this
scenario, already envisaged in 2001, Israel:
"will negotiate separately with Palestinian forces
that are dominant in each territory-Palestinian forces responsible for
security, intelligence, and even for the Tanzim (Fatah)."
The plan thus closely resembles the idea of "cantonization" of

The Dagan Plan has established continuity, despite the
changes in government. In the wake of the 2000 elections, Meir Dagan was
assigned a key role. "He became Sharon's "go-between" in
security issues with President's Bush's special envoys Zinni and
Mitchell." He was subsequently appointed Director of the Mossad by
Prime Minister Ariel Sharon in August 2002. He has remained head of Mossad
and was reconfirmed in his position as Director of Israeli Intelligence by
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert in June 2008.
Meir Dagan in coordination with his US counterparts, has
been in charge of various military-intelligence operations including
the assassination of Yaser Arafat in 2004. It is worth noting that
Meir Dagan as a young Colonel had worked closely with defense minister Ariel
Sharon in the raids on Palestinian settlements in Beirut in 1982. The
2008-2009 raids into Gaza, in many regards, bear a canny resemblance to the
1982 military operation.
It is important to focus on a number of key events which
have led up to the killings in Gaza under "Operation Cast Lead".
1. The assassination in November 2004 of Yaser Arafat. This
assassination had been on the drawing board since 1996 under "Operation
Fields of Thorns". According to an October 2000 document "prepared
by the security services, at the request of then Prime Minister Ehud Barak,
stated that "Arafat, the person, is a severe threat to the security of
the state [of Israel] and the damage which will result
from his disappearance is less than the damage caused by his

Arafat's assassination was ordered in 2003 by the Israeli
cabinet. It was approved by the US
which vetoed a United Nations Security Resolution condemning the 2003
Israeli Cabinet decision.Reacting to increased Palestinian attacks, in
August 2003, Israeli Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz declared "all out
war" on the militants whom he vowed "marked for death."
In mid September, Israel's government passed a law to get
rid of Arafat. Israel's cabinet for political security affairs declared it
"a decision to remove Arafat as an obstacle to peace." Mofaz
threatened; "we will choose the right way and the right time to kill
Arafat." Palestinian Minister Saeb Erekat told CNN he thought Arafat
was the next target. CNN asked Sharon spokesman Ra'anan Gissan if the vote
meant expulsion of Arafat. Gissan clarified; "It doesn't mean that. The
Cabinet has today resolved to remove this obstacle. The time, the method,
the ways by which this will take place will be decided separately, and the
security services will monitor the situation and make the recommendation

2. The assassination of Arafat was part of the 2001 Dagan
Plan. In all likelihood, it was carried out by Israeli Intelligence. It was
intended to destroy the Palestinian Authority, foment divisions within Fatah
as well as between Fatah and Hamas. Mahmoud
Abbas was installed as leader of Fatah, with the approval of Israel.

3. The removal, under the orders of Prime Minister
Ariel Sharon in 2005, of all Jewish settlements in Gaza. A Jewish population
of over 7,000 were relocated.
"It is my intention [Sharon] to carry out an
evacuation sorry, a relocation of settlements that cause us problems
and of places that we will not hold onto anyway in a final settlement, like
the Gaza settlements.... I am working on the assumption that in the future
there will be no Jews in Gaza," Sharon said." (CBC, March 2004)
Then Chabad Sanhedrin had him disposed of
The issue of the settlements in Gaza was presented as part
of Washington's "road map to peace". Celebrated by the
Palestinians as a "victory", this measure was not directed against
the Jewish settlers. Quite the opposite: It was part of the overall covert
operation, which consisted in transforming Gaza into a
concentration camp. As long as Jewish settlers were living inside
Gaza, the objective of sustaining a large barricaded prison territory could
not be achieved. The Implementation of "Operation
Cast Lead" required "no Jews in Gaza".
4. The building of the infamous Apartheid Wall was
decided upon at the beginning of the Sharon government.

5. The next phase was the Hamas election victory in
January 2006. Without Arafat, the Israeli military-intelligence
architects knew that Fatah under Mahmoud Abbas would loose the elections.
This was part of the scenario, which had been envisaged and analyzed. With
Hamas in charge of the Palestinian authority, using the pretext that Hamas
is a terrorist organization, Israel would carry out the process of
cantonization as formulated under the Dagan plan.
Ground Attack
On January 3, Israeli tanks and infantry entered Gaza in an
all out ground offensive:
"The ground operation was preceded by several hours of
heavy artillery fire after dark, igniting targets in flames that burst into
the night sky. Machine gun fire rattled as bright tracer rounds flashed
through the darkness and the crash of hundreds of shells sent up streaks of
fire. (AP, January 3, 2009)
Israeli sources have pointed to a lengthy drawn out
military operation. It "won't be easy and it won't be short," said
Defense Minister Ehud Barak in a TV address.
Israel is not seeking to oblige Hamas "to
cooperate". What we are dealing with is the implementation of the
"Dagan Plan" as initially formulated in 2001, which called for:
"an invasion of Palestinian-controlled territory by
some 30,000 Israeli soldiers, with the clearly defined mission of
destroying the infrastructure of the Palestinian leadership and collecting
weaponry currently possessed by the various Palestinian forces, and
expelling or killing its military leadership. (Ellis Shulman, op cit,

The broader question is whether Israel in
consultation with Washington is intent upon triggering a wider war.
Mass expulsion could occur at some later stage of the
ground invasion, were the Israelis to open up Gaza's borders to allow for an
exodus of population. Expulsion was referred to by Ariel Sharon as the
"a 1948 style solution". For Sharon "it is only necessary to
find another state for the Palestinians. -'Jordan is Palestine' - was the

irony. The very day that IDF ground forces enter the Gaza Strip as part of
Operation Cast Lead is the same day marking the three year anniversary of father
of the Disengagement
and previous Prime Minsiter Ariel Sharon's fall into a coma. His
close friends reminisce, share memories and their pain, and, mainly, refuse
to see any connection between Sharon and Operation
Cast Lead.
On January 4, 2006, Sharon was whisked away in an ambulance to
Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem after feeling ill on his farm in the
south. At the hospital, he underwent surgery and doctors tried to stop the
bleeding in his brain. Ever since, the former prime minister has been hospitalized
in a coma at Sheba Hospital at Tel Hashomer.

Eyal Arad, one of Sharon's close advisors, said to Ynet on the connection
between the dates, "I don't believe in the irony of history; we are looking
for connections, but they're not there. We aren't going back to Gaza, just like
how in Operation Defensive Shield we didn't return to Hebron. Sharon intended to
leave Gaza once and for all, but the Disengagement wasn't a contract with God
– that everything you do will hold forever. If they shoot at
us, are we going to turn the other way and say that
they're not?"

election campaign leaders, believes three and a half years after the
Disengagement that the move was justified.

Army War College to issue a report
urging the use of military troops to contain possible civil unrest throughout
America.
Entitled, Strategic
Shocks in Defense Strategy Development, issued on November 4, 2008, the
report argues that the US military must prepare for a “violent domestic
dislocation provoked by an economic collapse.”
The report was authored by Nathan
Freier, an Army lieutenant-colonel and professor at the US War College
in Carlyle PA - the Army’s main training institute for prospective senior
officers. Freier consigns dissenting Americans to the category of “hostile
groups:”
“Civil unrest would force the defense establishment to
maintain domestic order. Under certain circumstances this would include use of
military force against hostile groups

public’s ability to get caught up in wave of patriotic zeal over Gaza op

men and their leaders belong to the evil camp, and their hatred for us made them
cast away the rational inhibitions required of a leadership that is concerned
for the wellbeing of its citizens. Indeed, Hamas’ conduct ever since the Gaza
withdrawal and subsequent election victory does not merit any praise. However,
Strip residents who are captives of Hamas’ leadership – women, the elderly,
children, students, lecturers, hospitals, doctors, and patients –
do not have to be punished with destruction, death, and bereavement because of
the despicable acts of their leaders.
It is doubtful whether the method of punishment adopted by the State
of Israel for some years now, in the form of targeting
populated areas, dropping one-ton bombs on civilian neighborhoods, and using
cluster bombs, has any effect or wisdom.
The defense minister declared that the time for war has arrived, in order to put
an end to the criminal harassment in the form of murderous rockets fired from
Gaza at our communities. Well, the IDF embarked on war
with much force, knowledge, and advanced planning in order to sow fear and
horror on Gaza civilians and leaders. And it worked for him! There, the
defense minister already gained five Knesset seats in pre-election polls. The
defense minister is happy, and the people - proud of their glorious army - are
already resorting to exaggerated passion and are vowing to elect the hero and
his party.
Yet why did he abandon Gilad
Shalit? Why didn’t he secure his release before embarking on the
operation? Hamas demanded the release of prisoners, and we argued that many of
them have blood on their hands, yet when it comes to killing and assassinations
we are much more capable than them. Within the first 24
hours of the operation we killed more than 300 people, including two innocent
girls, not to mention the victims we killed between this operation and previous
ones.
Why did our well organized army, with its excellent intelligence
capabilities, object to the release of Palestinian prisoners,
when we could send them back home and later assassinate them in the heat of the
battle? After all, we are already used to assassinations from the air, sea, at
hideouts, or in populated neighborhoods. Assassinate – that is, to kill and
murder.
Moreover, the people who drop our bombs do not get stained with blood. Our
system is simple: There is no need for evidence or for a
trial. Once we decide that a certain someone is wanted, one bang and he’s
gone. Recently, the army was also granted
permission to kill civilians who happen to be near a wanted person; this was
published in the press about two weeks ago next to a photo of a smiling army
chief.
There is no doubt that had the defense minister first secured the release of
our captive soldier, he would have gained more than five Knesset seats.
He may have even been crowned as the king of Israel.
The public’s ability to get caught up in a wave of patriotic zeal because
of the IDF operation is amazing. I remember how, upon embarking on the Second
Lebanon War in 2006, many of my sane and enlightened friends cried out with
joy: “Finally, a just war.” I believe we all remember how it ended.
So why didn’t we, throughout the lull period, engage in direct or indirect
dialogue in order to extend the truce or secure a better agreement?

Wounded Gaza family lay bleeding for 20 hours
Three hours after the Israel Defense Forces began their ground
operation in the Gaza Strip, at about 10:30 P.M. Saturday night, a shell or
missile hit the house owned by Hussein al A'aiedy and his brothers. Twenty-one
people live in the isolated house, located in an agricultural area east of Gaza
City's Zeitoun neighborhood. Five of them were wounded in the strike: Two women
in their eighties (his mother and aunt), his 14-year-old son, his 13-year-old
niece and his 10-year-old nephew.
Twenty hours later, the wounded were still bleeding in a shed in the courtyard
of the house. There was no electricity, no heat, no water. Their relatives were
with them, but every time they tried to leave the courtyard to fetch water, the
army shot at them.
Al A'aiedy tried to summon help on his cell phone, but
Gaza's cell phone network is collapsing. Shells have hit transponders, there is
no electricity and no diesel fuel to run the generators. Every time the
telephone works, it is a minor miracle.
At about noon Sunday, Al A'aiedy finally managed to reach S., who called me.
There was nothing else that S., who lives nearby, could do.
I had known Al A'aiedy for eight years, and I called Physicians for Human
Rights. They called the IDF's liaison office to ask it to arrange to have the
wounded evacuated. That was shortly after noon - and as of press time, the
liaison office had still not called PHR back.
Meanwhile, someone else had managed to reach the Red Crescent Society. It called
the Red Cross and asked it to coordinate the evacuation of the wounded with the
IDF. That was at 10:30 A.M. - and as of press time Sunday night, the Red Cross
had still not been able to do so.
While I was on the phone with PHR, at about noon, H. called. He just wanted to
report: Two children, Ahmed Sabih and Mohammed al-Mashharawi, aged 10 and 11,
had gone up on the roof of their Gaza City house to heat water over a fire.
There is no electricity or gas, so fire is all that remains.
Tanks are spitting shells, helicopters are raining fire, warplanes are causing
earthquakes. But it is still hard for people to grasp that
heating water has become no less dangerous than joining Hamas' military wing.
An IDF missile hit the two boys, killing Ahmed and
seriously wounding Mohammed. Later Sunday, an Internet news site reported
that both had died. But H.'s cell phone was not answering, so I could not verify
that report.
And there was no point in trying H.'s land line: A bomb destroyed his
neighborhood's entire phone system on Saturday. The target
was a print shop (yet another of the IDF's "military" targets). Its
owner, a retired UNRWA employee, had invested his entire pension in the shop.
In B.'s neighborhood, the bombs hit the water mains, so she has had no water
since yesterday morning. "I'm already used to coping without
electricity," she said. "There's no television, but I hear what
happens from friends who call. One friend called from Lebanon, another from
Haifa. And Ramallah. But without water, how will we manage?"
A. offered his own take on the situation: "I keep the children away from
the windows because the F-16s are in the air; I forbid
them to play below because it's dangerous. They're bombing us from the sea and
from the east, they're bombing us from the air. When the telephone works,
people tell us about relatives or friends who were killed. My wife cries all the
time. At night she hugs the children and cries. It's cold and the windows are
open; there's fire and smoke in open areas; at home there's no water, no
electricity, no heating gas. And you [the Israelis] say there's no humanitarian
crisis in Gaza. Tell me, are you normal?"

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip – Anas Mansour sleeps in his street clothes in a
south Gaza refugee
camp, with his ID in his pocket so he can flee quickly if fighting gets
worse. In Gaza City, the 10 members of the Karam family huddle in their hallway
at night, kept awake by artillery fire booming outside.
And in the central Gaza
refugee camp of Nusseirat, Munir Najar said he only had another day's worth of
flour to feed his family of seven, but ventured out to find streets deserted and
shops closed.
"There's not a loaf of bread to be found,"
said Najar, 43.
As Israeli's offensive moved from pinpointed airstrikes to artillery shelling
and ground fighting, Gaza's civilians are increasingly
exposed to the violence. Since the ground assault began, 64
Palestinian civilians have been killed, said Dr. Moaiya Hassanain, a Health
Ministry official.
More than 512 Palestinians
have been killed since the operation began Dec. 27, at least 100 of them
civilians, say Palestinian and U.N. officials. In the same period, three
Israeli civilians and two soldiers have been killed.
The International Committee of the Red Cross called
Sunday on Israel and Hamas
to stop killing and wounding civilians, citing international humanitarian law.

watching his neighbor pile a mattress and blankets on a donkey cart to flee, but
hadn't decided if he'd do the same. "Where can we go? It's all the
same," Mansour said.

The Association for Responsible Dissent estimates that by 1987, 6 million
people had died as a result of CIA covert operations. (4) Former State
Department official William Blum correctly calls this an "American
Holocaust."
The US Army document, cited above, is an arrogant, imperialistic and
ill-considered response to a growing 'threat' --but a threat that is posed
only to US monopolists and death merchants, i.e., the Military/Industrial
Complex, a fancy name for Murder, Inc. The US has, in fact, squandered the
limitless goodwill that had been extended our nation at the end of World War
II.
The US has failed to make positive use of the world support for allied
efforts to codify war crimes, to hold Nazi War Criminals responsibility for
heinous crimes. But now --we have a recent US military document that the US
Army would prefer to keep secret no doubt because it reveals to the world
that those principles espoused at Nuremberg are either no longer operative
or they were a fraud, the US didn't really mean it. Or perhaps they forgot
to tell the world that the laws applied to everyone but themselves.
The Army has now revealed to the world that no nation is safe from US
terrorism, US attack, US subversion of indigenous cultures and governments,
US bullying or the US use of WMD against them. That is because the US
believes itself to be a world-wide empire, in fact, a single nation that
presumes to rule the world.
The well-informed countries --western Europe --know perfectly well what
our game is. General de Gaulle took France out of NATO because he
suspected that we were in the empire--building business, and he didn't
want to go along with it yet, simultaneously, France remained an ally in
case there was a major war with the Soviets. I don't think we should take
too seriously those eastern European countries. In due course, they will
wake up, as Turkey did, that we are
dangerous.
I have repeatedly stated that the US regime of George W. Bush was not
legitimate. How can I make it any clearer? "Illegitimate" means
that the regime of George W. Bush was no more legitimate than the crooked
regimes of tin horn dictators in banana republics. The Bush regime differed
little in terms of competence or statesmanship. Now, in a cynical document
that the US Army had never intended be disseminated publicly, we have
confirmation that the position of the US vis a vis the rest of the world is
based not upon Democracy or legitimacy. It is, rather based entirely upon

Joe Biden made a sensational statement on October 19, 2008. He said that
Barack Obama would have to undergo an ordeal during the first six months
of his stay in the White House. It will be the time of a very serious
international crisis, when Obama would have to make tough and possibly
unpopular decisions both in home and foreign politics.
Biden said that there were four or five scenarios for the development of
the international crisis. Afghanistan, North Korea or the Russian
Federation may become the source of one of them.
When Obama learned of Biden’s speech, he tried to explain everything
with rhetorical exaggerations. However, Biden’s remarks gave food for
thought, taking into consideration the fact that former secretary of state
Madeleine Albright described his remarks as statement of fact.

Bullets at innocent civilian's10th day saw numerous clashes

matter their color, race or creed as long as they classify as the 'goyim'
(called Gentiles in the Old Testament, called 'goyim' in the Torah/Talmud and in
the Protocols

the puppet president -- one man -- announced 'his' decision to wrap up the 12
years of bombing runs over Iraq, the 12 years of sanctions against Iraq which

the more obnoxious, the better.
The sites that describe in detail how Israel controls the world and is
planning to drag all the goyim into World War III have to be hosted somewhere.
All you have to do is run a trace-route on the domain
name of the site and find out the actual numerical IP address the site
uses. That address is registered to a Web
site provider, somewhere in the world. Using an on-line tool, you can
track ownership of that address - and when you do, it's time to open up your
e-mail program and write a scathing letter, complaining about the poor quality
of sites hosted on the company's servers (and the fact that it is promoting
racism, anti-Semitism and libelous accusations). Mention
that your uncle is a lawyer; chances are you'll get satisfaction - doing
as good a job of booting a site off the Internet as a hacker would, or even
better!
It's actually far less complicated than it sounds. You may already have a
trace-route program installed in your computer, but you can also use an on-line
trace-route tool; at http://www.geektools.com/traceroute.php, just choose one of
the many links (grouped by country; for our purposes, it doesn't matter which
one you select. The Israel links are pretty reliable). Type in the name of the
host (www.hostname.com, without the http:// at the beginning). The system will
begin seeking out the true home of the host, and after about 13 or so
"hops," it will present you with an IP address.
Copy that address and surf on over to http://www.ip2location.com/free.asp,
which will look for the physical location of the server
that IP address is associated with, and usually the name of the hosting company
that provides the address. And that's all you need; you can surf to the hosting
site and get the appropriate e-mail, to write your complaint to the system
administrator, director or other bigwig who takes complaints.
Chances are the site administrators or owners do not realize what screed they
are hosting. By the way, there's no law that says they have to check up on the
work done by their clients. And while they have no legal obligation to respond
positively to your complaints, they probably will, in order not to get a bad
reputation, as well as to get you off their back.
If you'd rather let someone else do the hacking for you, by the way, check
out http://www.help-israel-win.org/, where they have an application you can
download and install that uses group computer technology (sort of like SETI,
Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence, http://www.seti.org).
Their application attacks anti-Israel Web sites; I don't know if it's legal, but

But why take chances? With my way, you know you're safe - and you get the

ANALYSIS / Israel is on its way to reoccupying
all of the Gaza Strip
The way events played out yesterday did not stir the political
leadership into thinking of stopping the ground offensive and moving toward a
cease-fire. On the contrary, Israel is moving toward a
decision to occupy the whole Gaza Strip.
The message yesterday from Jerusalem was that it is impossible to end Operation
Cast Lead without an achievement, and if in the next two days there is no
satisfactory diplomatic solution, Israel will have to broaden the operation.
"Broadening the operation" could mean moving from house to house as in
Operating Defensive Shield in 2002 in the West Bank, aiming to kill or capture
as many Hamas fighters as possible. Or it could mean surrounding Gaza City,
similar to the way the Egyptian Third Army was cut off in 1973, or like the
siege of Beirut in 1982, until Hamas' leaders emerge from their hideouts with
their hands up. This could take several weeks.
Waiting for the Obamanation
Political sources are denying reports of a disagreement at the top over the
future of the operation, and insist that Ehud Olmert, Ehud Barak and Tzipi Livni
are united in their understanding that under the current circumstances Israel
should continue until there are diplomatic gains. Other sources say there are
problems. Barak believes that rejecting the French offer for a cease-fire last
week was a mistake that made Israel miss a good opportunity to end the
operation; now he wants to go on. Olmert, according to some reports, is pushing
for a broadening of the offensive. Livni is worried that any international
developments may grant Hamas legitimacy.
Israel is in a bind. If it pulls out now from Gaza, it will appear to have cut
and run at the first sign of trouble in battling Hamas. And if it goes on to a
full occupation of the Strip, it may pay a heavy economic and political price
without achieving its political goals.
Israel is trying to put together a complex maneuver based on an international
mechanism that will prevent arms smuggling into Gaza. Egypt is expected to back
this effort, but the actual work on Egyptian soil will be assigned to U.S. and
other foreign forces. The effort will not concentrate solely along the border
with Rafah but along the whole chain of smuggling, from Iran to the Philadelphi
route that runs along the Egyptian border. All told, Israel will try to persuade
the international community that the continued arming of Hamas will undermine
the remaining stability in the Middle East.
Egypt is the key to the deal that Olmert and Livni are trying to put together
against the arms smuggling. A visit by American officials to Cairo will be a
sign of progress. In Israel there is a feeling that Cairo will support the
effort, fearing that an occupation of the Strip will result in hundreds of
thousands of Palestinian refugees who flee the fighting.
If a deal is reached, the risk for Israel is that its already sensitive
relations with Egypt will focus on the effort to block arms smuggling. It's
possible to picture a scenario in which a government under
Benjamin Netanyahu contains right-wing voices
(Sanhedrin) who
demand that Israel impose sanctions on Egypt because of intelligence reports
that missiles capable of striking Tel Aviv have been smuggled into the Strip.
