Bush tells PM he wants truce that Hamas will respect

George W. Bush on Wednesday discussed with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert ways to "end the violence" in the Mideast, the White House said.

"They both discussed their mutual desire" for peace, presidential spokesman Gordon Johndroe told reporters. He said the president consulted by phone early Wednesday with the Israeli leader from Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas. The call came amid news that Israel decided against a two-day unilateral cease-fire, a proposal pushed especially by France.

Bush voiced concern about the strikes in Gaza and the attacks in Israel and also raised again his worries about civilian casualties in Gaza. Johndroe said that Olmert gave Bush assurances that Israel is focusing its attack on the Hamas leadership governing the Gaza Strip and that it is trying to limit civilian casualties.

Bush has been constantly monitoring the air strikes into the Gaza Strip, which Israel launched last Saturday in response to the rocket strikes directed at the Jewish state by the terrorist Hamas organization.

Asked specifically what concern the administration voiced about the violence of recent days, Johndroe said: "President Bush is disappointed that Hamas continues to fire rockets on the innocent people of Israel."

"President Bush wants to see an end to the violence. I know the prime minister wants to see an end to the violence," the spokesman said. "We want to see a cease-fire that's durable and lasting and the most important thing is that Hamas respect it. They had a cease-fire until about Dec. 19 ... but then they failed to renew the cease-fire and substantially increase the level that forced the Israelis to live in bomb shelters."

"The onus is on Hamas," Johndroe said.

He added that officials are seeing "a good flow" of medical and food supplies into Gaza, addressing a concern that Bush raised earlier.

Johndroe would not say directly whether Bush had discussed with Olmert the idea of a cease-fire.

He did say that both Bush and Olmert "realize that an end to violence will come when Hamas stops firing rockets into Israel."

"Hamas hopefully realizes that they're in a situation that is not helpful to their own people," he said. "That situation will not lead to a viable Palestinian state."

Asked if Bush's ability to influence events in the region is suffering because he has only three weeks left in office, Johndroe said: "One thing that's clear is that he's established relationships that allow him to pick up the phone, give these leaders a call and have very open and frank discussions."

In Washington, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice continued furious telephone diplomacy with officials in the region, pressing them on the need for a "durable and sustainable" cease-fire.

"The effort to bring about a cease-fire continues," State Department spokesman Gordon Duguid told reporters. "We're not allowing any of the events that have happened to dissuade us in our efforts to bring about a cease-fire that is durable and sustainable."

Asked whether Rice was planning a trip to the region, Johndroe said in Crawford that he knew of no such plan.

Rice spoke Wednesday with Jordanian Foreign Minister Salaheddine Al-Bashir, their third conversation since Tuesday, he said. Rice spoke three times on Tuesday with the foreign minister of the United Arab Emirates and once each with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the foreign minister of Egypt, he said.

"We're looking for all our friends and allies in the region to use whatever good offices they have with Hamas or with other Palestinian organizations to try and help communicate the international community's desire that the violence stop," Duguid said

IDF Gearing for Ground Offense

(IsraelNN.com) Israel’s Channel 2 Television reported Wednesday evening that the IDF forces on the Gaza front were told to be ready for ground entry into Gaza starting Friday morning.

Earlier Wednesday, Minister of National Infrastructure Binyamin Ben Eliezer toured the southern communities of Sderot and Ashkelon. “I am arriving from a security Cabinet session. It was decided that we will not relax from the operation in Gaza and won’t leave the area until we’ll bring a new reality to the south in Israel.”

Rabbis probed for alleged incitement

Attorney General's office launches several investigations against prominent religious figures following several media reports suggesting rabbi decreed that Jews were no longer allowed to hire Arab laborers

Deputy Attorney General Shai Nitzan instructed the police to launch an investigation against several prominent rabbis in the Orthodox community on suspicion of incitement.

Tuesday's decision followed petition filed by the Israel Religious Action Center (IRAC) back in March. The IRAC filed its petition following several media reports suggesting Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky decreed that Jews were no longer allowed to hire Arab laborers.

The rabbi issued the alleged ordinance following the deadly attack on Mercaz Harav rabbinical seminary in Jerusalem. 

Also implicated in the case is Haim Barzilai, Rabbi Kanievsky's operations officers, who reportedly sent "supervisors" (comrad's) out to the Orthodox community in order to ensure that the rabbi's word was adhered.

The Attorney General's Office did, however, find no grounds to launch an investigation against Rabbi Kanievsky at this time.

The IRAC also asked the State to investigate alleged incitement by other prominent rabbis, the likes of Yitzhak Shapira, David Drukman, Daniel Stavsky, Ido Alba and Rabbi Yehuda Kroizer.

The rabbis are suspected of issuing calls for revenge against Arabs following the attack on Mercaz Harav.

Two-dozen rabbis are also suspected of distributing flyers after the bulldozer attacks in Jerusalem, describing east Jerusalem residents as "the tip of the iceberg of a national problem which has become an existential threat to the people is Zion."

Also under investigation is Rabbi Dov Lior of Kiryat Arba, who warned his followers against the perils of hiring Arabs or having them as tenants.

The Israel Religious Action Center issued a statement saying "over the past few months we have seen deterioration in incitement activity in Israel. This matter should concern anyone who cares about the Israeli democracy. We welcome these investigation and home the will serve justice."

Washington is reportedly "worried" that Hamas may gain in popularity if US-backed Israeli attacks (MURDER) on Gaza amount to a war of attrition.

A new report has revealed that the 5-day-old Israeli military campaign against Gaza has made the Bush administration increasingly nervous as the number of Palestinian casualties continues to rise.

Washington is extremely concerned that if the massive offensive against one of the most populated areas on earth does not lead to the fall of Hamas, support for the Palestinian group may increase, the Los Angeles Times reported on Wednesday.

The daily cited sources close to discussions between Washington and Tel Aviv as saying that the White House wants Israel to settle on a timetable and an exit strategy so that their bitter experience in the 2006 war on Hezbollah is not repeated.

Israel waged a 33-day war on Lebanon in 2006 to destroy the military power of Hezbollah -- a group that has been established to defend Lebanon. Hezbollah, however, emerged victorious and gained immense popularity.

"You're not hearing that same confidence you did in 2006 that the Israeli military can impose a new strategic reality and should go full force," the daily quoted an unnamed Arab diplomat close to the discussions as saying.

"There's a real contrast between their words then and now," he added.

During its war on Lebanon, Israel bombed parts of southern and eastern Lebanon and later widened its bombing campaign to cover most of the country. The violence killed around 1,200 Lebanese, mostly civilians; and 157 Israelis, mostly soldiers.

The United States has also warned Israel, according to the report, to avoid any strike that could inflict enormous civilian casualties, saying such an act would further turn the international community against Tel Aviv.

During the war in 2006, the Israel Air Force attacked a three-story building in the southern village of Qana, killing 28 civilians, about half of whom were children.

The attack caused an international outcry and forced Israel to halt air strikes for 48 hours.

Despite international calls for Israel to end its current military offensive into Gaza, which started on Saturday, Israel is reportedly preparing to launch a ground assault into the region.

The UN Security Council has also been unable to force an end to the Israeli attacks due to the intervention of and use of veto power by the United States.

Israel says through its military campaign, it seeks to topple the Hamas movement, which took control of the Gaza Strip in June 2007 after winning the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) elections in January 2006.

In retaliation to the attacks on Gaza, Hamas has vowed to launch rocket strikes against Israel. Unlike the state-of-the-art weapons and ammunition Israel holds, the homemade Qassam rockets rarely cause casualties.

While only six Israelis have died and 16 have become wounded since Saturday, the Israeli air strikes on Gaza have left over 1800 Palestinians injured and at least 386 dead -- scores of whom were women and children.

About 2 years ago, Sara Imenu, a'h, told me in a dream that Moshiach arrival is very connected to Gaza and the war will start from there.

The Moshiach – This Year? 5768

Those who like to dabble in Gematria and Torah Codes will be fascinated.  The Twin Towers, the War of Gog and Magog, U.S. President Bush, Iranian Leader Ahmadinejad, and all the latest news events that have taken place in the world have some interesting connections when Gematria is applied.

Could it be that the future event of the Moshiach coming, is also hidden in the Torah and revealed through some simple gematria equations?  Might the Moshiach come THIS YEAR? The year of 5768?  No one can predict this, and even if the gematria works out perfectly, we cannot use it or the Torah codes to predict the future. Therefore, though I am hopeful, I remain skeptical.  And yet, some of these things below seem uncanny.  You decide for yourself.  

A request was sent to me to listen to a radio show called, LIGHT OUT OF DARKNESS. This show apparently  broadcasts in the New Jersey area every 6 weeks or so, and is hosted by Joel Gallis and  Dr. Robert Wolf. The information below that you will be reading is based on what they said on their show.  
 
Take a look at this:
 
The Sept. 11th attack in the USA, found through the Torah codes intersect the word 'twin' with words like Towers, Bin Ladden, terror attack,  thousands of people, murders, etc

The Gematria for 'the Twins' =  502
The Gematria for Edom, which is the West =  51
The Gematria for Ishmael, which is the East =  451
 
51 + 451 = 502  - the same as the numerical value as 'the Twins'
Is this alluding to the war between these two great powers, the Last War, the War of Gog and Magog?  Did the destruction of the twin towers mark the beginning of the last war? We learn that the Holy Kabbalist, the 'Ari'  (Rabbi Isaac Luria (1534 - July 25, 1572) a Jewish mystic in Safed.) stated that the Last War would begin on the holiday of Hoshana Raba.  It is quite interesting to note, that the first bombing attack on terrorist strongholds in Afghanistan, in retaliation for the Sept. 11th attack, happened on Oct. 8, 2001, which was Hoshana Raba. The year this happened, corresponded to the Hebrew year, 5762, the year following the shmita year of 5761.

According to the Vilna Gaon, the sign to know if a war is the 'Last War', it would take place on Hoshana Raba, the year AFTER a shmita year.  It did, in 5762.
 
Now, let's examine these numbers:
 
King David, the leader of Israel and the head of the line whom the Moshiach would come from, was born in the year 2854 from creation. 
If one doubles that year, it comes out to 2854 x 2 = 5708.
5708 on the Gregorian calendar = 1948, the birth of the Modern State of Israel.
 
King David was anointed king in 2884.  If one doubles this year, it comes out to:
2884 x 2 = 5768.  Could it be that the year 5768 THIS YEAR, is the year that we will see the King Moshaich, and be redeemed?

Both end with the number '8'.  The number '8' in Judaism is a 'supernatural' number.  Perhaps these 'supernatural events' fall in these years ending with the number '8' because they were supernatural?

They also state that the holy Kabalist Rav Kaduri Z"L was told by the Lubavitcher Rebbe that he would see the Moshiach before he died.  Rav Kaduri's closest aids said that he had apparently met with the one who is the Moshiach, on Nov. 4th, 2003, though we do not know whom he met with.  If indeed this is true and the holy rabbi met with the Moshiach, they claim that something cataclysmic must have happened that day to coincide with the event. Perhaps great light was revealed to the world, or a burst of light energy?  Well, on  Nov. 4th, 2003, mankind experienced the biggest solar flare explosion ever recorded, totally off the charts.
They also claim, like others, that George W. Bush will be the last president of the United States.  They say that BUSH spelled backwards in Hebrew, (shin vuv bet) is SHUV, or 'return', and that in these End Days, the Jewish people, and all of us, need to repent and return to G-d.

They didn't say in this program that Bush is Gog, from the war of Gog and Magog like many of the biblical scholars and researchers I have interviewed on my program, but many believe that George W.  Bush is Gog, and will lead the nations of the world (UN Troops, NATO, etc) against Jerusalem, coming from the north, against Israel and the Jews.  Iranian leader Ahmadinejad wants to annihilate us, and the West, and this also fits what our prophets fortell.
 
I will try to get these 2 men who spoke about the gematria on my show for an interview.

Kabbalist Elder: Gaza War Is Serious Threat

(IsraelNN.com) Speaking to a gathering of students Tuesday night, the elder Kabbalist, (Talmudic anti-Christ sorcerer)  Rabbi Eliyahu Leon Levi of Bnei Brak, warned that the war against Hamas should not be taken lightly.

"The Hamas has long-range Grad missiles that are aimed at our country’s strategic facilities," he stated. "The threat is a life and death danger for the people of Israel. Imagine the catastrophe if a nuclear facility was damaged, causing the release of radioactivity in the air. People must be awakened to the severity of the danger and the Israeli army must strike at the enemy with its full force, without any mercy and external considerations."

On several occasions, Rabbi Leon tipped off the Israeli military about threats to the country's security. Years ago, the kabbalist elder revealed the existence of an extensive network of underground tunnels both on the Egyptian-Gaza border and in the Gaza Strip. On another occasion, the Rabbi alerted Colonel Moti Yogev who in turn reported to the Israel Air Force of the approach of an enemy ship, stockpiled with arms and missiles, on the way to Gaza. Once in Egypt, the missiles are transported by trucks to the border of Gaza, where they are smuggled into Gaza in small vehicles via a two-kilometer underground highway. "In this fashion," he explained, "Hamas is being supplied with an unlimited arsenal of weapons and supplies. Only ground forces can destroy this secret supply route, by locating the tunnels and blowing them up, even if it means casualties to our troops. This ground operation has to be carried out now, before it is too late," he warned.

In addition, he said, “You don’t have to be a prophet to see the increasing sympathy for Hamas on the part of the Arabs in Israel. Danger threatens us from without and within.”

Through fervently praying with all of our souls, begging G-d to forgive us for the sins which have brought this cruel enemy upon us, we can influence the situation on the ground. Just as the united prayers of the Jewish people have brought us rain, so too they can save us from the present danger.”

Immigration Rises as Economy Drops and Rockets Fall

(IsraelNN.com) The Jewish Agency reports that 16,500 people immigrated to Israel in 2008, icluding 3,150 from North America, and 500 immigrants arrived in the final week of the year despite rocket attacks in the south and a weak economy.

The number of new immigrants from North America increased slightly this year from 3,074 in 2007 to 3,150.  of these, 2,750 were from the United States, and the rest from Canada.

The number of immigrants to Israel from South Africa nearly doubled compared with last year, to 370, and a second special flight from South Africa arrived in Israel on Wednesday with 80 new immigrants. South African Jews have expressed increased interest in aliyah (Jewish immigration to Israel), in part a result of growing political instability and rising levels of violence and crime in the country.

One hundred new immigrants arrived Tuesday on a special flight from Moscow. Together with British and American immigrants, and South African immigrants, nearly 500 new immigrants will have arrived the last eight days of the Gregorian year.

Total immigration of 19,700 olim dropped from last year, mainly due to the slowing in the immigration of Falashmura from Ethiopia and a decrease in the number of immigrants from France.

Aliyah Department Director Eli Cohen estimates that immigration will increase next year, particularly from the West, where the economic crisis will spur potential immigrants to move to Israel in the coming year. Cohen noted that the Jewish Agency would work with the Ministry of Absorption as well as its partner organizations Nefesh B'Nefesh, in North America, and AMI, in France, to develop new employment and special absorption initiatives to attract more olim from North America and Western Europe.

ALONG THE ISRAEL-GAZA STRIP BORDER — In a muddy field overlooking the smoke-blackened Gaza Strip skyline on Tuesday, young soldiers from an Israeli tank unit linked arms with euphoric civilians and joined them in the hora, a circular dance, in anticipation of a possible ground invasion of the Palestinian territory.

Far overhead, a pair of Israeli Apache helicopters fired on a target inside Gaza, unleashed diversionary flares and disappeared to the north. Elsewhere in the autonomous Palestinian region, Israeli jets, helicopters and ships pummeled the area with new strikes against dozens of targets.

"Israel thinks that taking the pressure off Hamas, giving them a respite to regroup and rearm and prepare for a second round is a mistake," said Olmert spokesman Mark Regev.

Regev emphasized that Israel was "open to every creative humanitarian idea" to allow more aid into Gaza.

However, Israel Tuesday targeted more of the elaborate network of smugglers' tunnels between Egypt and Gaza that's provided the main supply line for 1.5 million Palestinians living in the densely populated Mediterranean region.

With more tunnels shut down, supplies are running dangerously low in Gaza. Israel and Egypt have allowed in limited amounts of aid, but Palestinians said that demand was far outstripping supply.

Grocery stores were reported to be running out of food. Large swaths of the Gaza Strip were thrown into longer blackouts, and hospital blood supplies have run low.

Israel allowed five ambulances provided by Turkey to enter Gaza as Palestinian hospitals struggled to deal with more than 1,800 people injured in the ongoing assault.

HOW DO WE BRING THE REDEMPTION/MOSHIACH?
Even when people cry out "Until when will we remain in exile?" they do so only because they were told to. If they had sincere intent and earnest desire, and cried out in truth, Moshiach would surely have come already. "May it be G-d's will that ultimately ten Jews will be found who are stubborn enough to resolve to secure G-d's consent to actually bring about the true and ultimate Redemption, here and now, immediately. Their stubborn resolve will surely evoke G-d's favor, as reflected by the interpretation of the verse, 'For they are a stiff-necked people; You will pardon our sins and wrongdoings and make us Your possession.'

SCREAM, CRY, BEG, PRAY FOR MOSHIACH. If we will scream and beg for Moshiach , HaShem can send him faster. It is up to us to ask HaShem to bring the Moshiach. Screame "MOSHIACH COME NOW" and "HKB"H please send the Geula in our days - MOSHIACH" Cry to HaShem to send Moshiach Tzidkeinu NOW.

May it be G-d's will that there will be one, two, or three among you who will appreciate what needs to be done and how it needs to be done, and may you actually be successful and bring about the true and complete Redemption.

That's how it is here: Opposition to peace is always legitimate and patriotic; opposition to war is always traitorous, anti-Israel and should be hushed while broadcasting his television show "London & Kirschenbaum" this week, Yaron London acknowledged they had run into problems: "We had some trouble as we were preparing this program. We know the broad consensus is in favor of the operation - to strike them hard, but there are also other voices, not only Arab Israelis, but Jews, too. We found a few Jews who believe the operation must be halted, or shouldn't have been launched at all, and that political negotiations should be held. This is not my view. I called for a different line in articles I've written. But their voice needs to be heard, too. Wall-to-wall consensus spells disaster. But they were too frightened. Other voices are being terrorized into silence."

Afterward London told his interviewee, Amir Peretz, that he'd planned to bring on residents of the Gaza area who held "the other view," but unfortunately, "terror" had silenced them. Terror or no terror, I know more than a few Jews who hold the "other" view and who would be glad to make their voices heard - for instance, the hundreds who took to the Cinematheque plaza in Tel Aviv on Saturday night to demonstrate against the Israel Defense Forces operation. But the London & Kirschenbaum crew somehow failed to find them - production problems, apparently. At any rate, on the most opinionated program of all, their voice was not heard and "the other view" remained unspoken on television - beaten down, ostracized, forbidden to be heard.

Shortly before London delivered his self-justifying sermon, someone who holds the other view, MK Ahmed Tibi, was invited to the "Erev Hadash" ("New Evening") studio. What transpired there is destined to become a cult classic: a horror show of screaming and insults. Veins threatened to burst and throats grew hoarse with strain. Dan Margalit, the show's host: "You're always telling stories ... You don't answer the question." Tibi: "I answer what I want to answer." Margalit: "Tone it down. Speak like a civilized human being." Tibi: "I am a civilized human being." Margalit: "Speak to me with respect, sir." Finally, Margalit was satisfied and instructed his co-host, Ronen Bergman: "Let him speak." Tibi tried then to say that the whole difference between the parties boils down to Hamas' demand that the crossings be opened - and Margalit chuckled loudly.

Try to recall: When else have you ever heard Margalit, or any other television interviewer, scolding a politician, "You're always telling stories"? Do they speak like that to Benjamin Netanyahu? Ehud Barak? Tzipi Livni? Don't they "tell stories" sometimes? And when have you heard an interviewer speak in such a condescending way - "Speak like a civilized human being"? Nerves are frayed, you understand, and the Arabs (or the heretic Jews) are bothersome.

Because that's how it is in Israel. Opposition to peace is always legitimate, patriotic and may be loudly proclaimed; opposition to war is always traitorous, anti-Israel, illegitimate and should be hushed. We can debate the cost of peace forever; we won't say a word about the cost of war. Movement toward peace is heckled, military operations are cheered. At least in the beginning. Criticism of war must wait. It certainly cannot be expressed while the war can still be changed, dissuaded, prevented, stopped, restrained. This is the test of the media's courage and truth, and time after time, war after war, it fails. Only generals and military analysts are invited to the television studios, the same people who sat in the same studios during the last war and the one before it, the same people who led us into the last war and the one before it, because they possess the only wisdom and insight there is.

Because that's how it is in Israel: The first days of war, any war, are the darkest. None of this "Quiet, we're shooting." Oh, no. Rather, we get a unified chorus throughout the television studios, eagerly and stridently urging more strikes, more killing, calling on Israel to keep pounding and expanding and obliterating, waxing enthusiastic over every bombardment and gaping in admiration over every shelling, a war that is never enough. Only afterward, when the smoke clears and the battle fog lifts, when the victory turns out to be a defeat and the achievements turn out to be illusory, does the other voice, the voice of wisdom and criticism, arise, and sometimes it, too, becomes the voice of the consensus. Always belatedly, always atrociously late.

Quiet, we're shooting? On June 6, 1982, over 25 years ago, when Israel embarked on the first Lebanon War, perhaps Israel's most foolish war, my late friend Amiram Nir published his formative article: "Quiet We're Shooting": "Now there is no opposition, no Likud or Ma'arakh, no religious or secular, rich or poor. Now we are all one people, in uniform. Now we are shooting, so keep quiet." Nir didn't really mean quiet. Israel doesn't want quiet. It wants a loud voice, but only the voice of belligerency, nationalism, violence, propaganda, the prevailing, accepted opinion - and alongside it, there must be quiet. Total quiet. Absolute quiet.

Mt:27:25: Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.

On the first day of this war, the television showed horrifying images. Hardly anything was concealed. Split screens showed the terror in Ashkelon on one side and the grief in Gaza on the other. Granted, on the English Al-Jazeera channel, an excellent and balanced station whose Gazan reporter Ayman Mohyeldin deserves a Pulitzer, the horror was more horrifying and the despair less comfortable. But our channels also showed plenty of shattered Palestinian bodies being loaded onto pickup trucks. Worst of all, this did not change anything, did not arouse any protest. This time there was no need to obscure the suffering or blur its scope. We've become so indifferent, Israel's heart has become so hardened, that we can take in such harsh images and remain just as apathetic. Apathy? Well, not entirely. The truth is that, once in a while, the harsh images did provoke a mild worry: What will they do to the "Israeli PR effort"? Maybe they'll hurt us? That's right - just us, once again. How ludicrous it was to hear Channel 10 foreign correspondent Ilan Goren chiding the world media for daring to show these pictures.

The world grows accustomed to dead bodies, soon there will be total indifference of any slain, for ANY REASON whatsoever

The media prepared for this war very well. No commission of inquiry, no Winograd or Doner, will be able to argue the media did not prepare for it. For many months, we received scary reports about how Hamas was building power and arming itself. Tunnels, bunkers, long-range missiles, a growing army. No one made a peep, no one was the least bit skeptical. The fact that this is a pathetic organization firing half-empty pipes from a besieged and imprisoned land, facing an army that possesses every weapon in the world, was obscured. Also obscured was the fact that the first significant violation of the cease-fire came from our side: the bombing of a tunnel, on the day the cease-fire was declared. Also obscured was the siege: Two and a half years of journalistic closure, during which we could not enter Gaza, during which not a peep of protest was heard from Israel's journalists, left their mark. The hardships of life in besieged Gaza before this war were not on the Israeli agenda. Some assuaged their not-very-tortured consciences by claiming there was no siege; some said they had it coming, and some wished to see even more starvation and darkness. But the siege was hidden from view.

After the preparatory stage came the assessment of the situation: It cannot go on like this, said all the analysts, proclaiming that the answer would have to be military, only military. The frightened people of Sderot became the only victims in the field. Not the Gazan children who don't even have a notebook in which to record their terrifying experiences, not the adults who had no cement to erect tombstones for their dead, not the drivers who fueled their vehicles with used cooking oil, not the doctors who operated without electricity or the families who shivered in the cold in their impoverished homes. They are not the victims of the-situation-that-cannot-continue. And then came the echoing media campaign: Go to war already, hit them hard, a military operation, action, reprisal, deterrence - something. The latest to take this line was the nation's columnist, Nahum Barnea, who got a haircut last week in Sderot and, of course, didn't pass up the opportunity to share the experience with his readers, and immediately afterward ripped into Defense Minister Ehud Barak, the day before he dispatched the planes on their killing missions. "Where is the minister and where is the defense?" screamed his unforgettable headline.

But this wasn't the headline of the week in the nation's newspaper. Gleeful after the outbreak of the war, on the day after the Black Sabbath when more than 200 people were killed and 1,000 wounded in Gaza, at least a third of the dead civilians - 70 were traffic cops at their graduation ceremony, young men in desperate search of a livelihood who thought they'd found it in the police and instead found death from the skies - the very next day, in the festive format reserved for fresh wars, the main headline blared in big letters: "Half a Million Israelis Under Fire." Just like that - simply, modestly and with the understatement and professionalism typical of a newspaper that knows what matters to its readers.

Anyone who wanted to know what happened in Gaza on that Black Sabbath, and not just in Sderot and Netivot ("Netivot of Death" was the subtle, proportional headline), had to go all the way to page 13 to find out, very briefly, what newspaper readers and television viewers around the world already knew: Something appalling happened in Gaza. When a historian eventually examines the archives, it will all be clear to him: He'll understand that, for Israel, 200, 300 and then 400 Palestinians killed isn't much of a story, that we have a supremely "conscripted" media for whom disturbing images of what our country and our pilots have wrought in Gaza are just a PR problem, that all is permissible for Israel and the Palestinians deserve all they get, and that Israel unanimously cheers for war, any war. That we've become so powerful that we've become brutalized and blinded to the point of total desensitization

After the Working of Satan, Sanhedrin Makes their Wars and murder and sorcery and blasphemy

In exercising its authority over "matters concerning the Land of Israel", the Sanhedrin has issued a series of decisions declaring the Israeli pullout from Gaza invalid. In "The Sanhedrin's Declaration Concerning the Disengagement from Gaza",[13] the Sanhedrin prohibited Jews from cooperating with the Government, saying: "The Prime Minister's program of uprooting stands in direct contradiction to the Torah of Israel.", "the decision of this government...is null and void.", "No Jew is permitted to cooperate" and "Any Jew - including a soldier or policeman - who supports the uprooting...transgresses a large number of Torah commandments."

Commenting on the 2006 Israel-Lebanon conflict in August 2006, the new Sanhedrin being the only authorized national institution to deal with the legal aspects of warfare and to give policy directives to the State concerning warfare. Enacting legislation concerning warfare always has been a distinguishing feature of the historical Sanhedrin.[14]
