Senators press Bush on Saudis

A bipartisan slate of U.S. senators led by Jews from each party asked President Bush to urge Saudi Arabia to cancel a meeting on an Israel boycott.

Saudi Arabia is hosting an Organization of the Islamic Conference meeting this week, and a Saudi official reportedly said one session would be dedicated to reinforcing the Israel boycott — though Saudi Arabia vowed last year, when it joined the World Trade Organization, not to boycott Israel.

“Mr. President, the United States cannot remain silent on Saudi Arabia’s intolerant boycott of Israel, and should insist that Saudi Arabia uphold its obligations as a member of WTO,” said the letter initiated by Sens. Norm Coleman (R-Minn.) and Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) and signed by 15 others.

Abbas calls prison raid 'an unforgivable crime'
JERICHO, West Bank

Israel's raid of a West Bank prison is an "unforgivable crime" and an insult to the Palestinian people, Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas said during a tour of the demolished complex Wednesday.

In Tuesday's raid, Israeli troops pounded Jericho's prison with missiles, tank shells and jackhammers to force the surrender of more than 300 prisoners and police officers. Among those taken by Israel was leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, Ahmed Sa'adat, the alleged mastermind of the 2001 assassination of Tourism Minister Rehavam Ze'evi.

Abbas cut short his Europe trip and rushed back to the West Bank in response to the raid.

During the tour of the compound, he said that the raid "is an unforgivable crime and an insult to the Palestinian people." Later Wednesday, Abbas was to tour Jericho's hospital to visit those wounded in Tuesday's fighting.

Abbas suggested there was close coordination between British and American inspectors at the prison and Israeli forces. Abbas said foreign monitors, deployed at the prison since 2002 under an unusual arrangement, left Jericho at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, and that Israeli forces entered town 10 minutes later.

Pressed to elaborate, he said: "I'm giving the facts. They (the monitors) left at 9:20 a.m., and the Israelis came in at 9:30 a.m. How can we explain that?"

Abbas also played down the complaints by the British and US governments that the Palestinians had violated the 2002 arrangement under which Sa'adat and other suspects were being held. In a joint letter last week, the US and British governments said the Palestinian jailers were not supervising the inmates closely.

"They (the monitors) used to send us weekly reports, complaining about small violations, someone got a mobile phone, someone was visited by his families, but they never spoke of serious things," Abbas said

'Give back territory and kill Arabs'

"To return territory and kill Arabs" is a favorite expression of the "ranch forum" of Ariel Sharon's advisers. In 2000, when adman-strategist Reuven Adler and company reshaped and polished Sharon's image, a rule was made: The public likes leaders who show diplomatic moderation and military toughness, who return land and kill Arabs. Sharon followed the rule during his five-year reign, and his heir-apparent, Acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert will do the same.

Last weekend, in his foreign policy program, Olmert returned a lot of territory. Yesterday he completed the equation by sending in the Israel Defense Forces and its bulldozers to nibble at the walls of Jericho Prison and to threaten the murderers of Minister Rehavam Ze'evi and the people involved in the Karin A arms ship with imprisonment or death.

Olmert did not seek out or initiate this operation, and he would have passed on it had he been given the chance. It was too dangerous. But as soon as it was forced upon him by the desertion of the foreign monitors, he had to act. If Ze'evi's murderers had escaped and given ludicrous interviews to the Israeli television channels, Olmert and his Kadima party would have been badly hurt. He would have been seen as weak, as someone who can only give back territory. Both the left and the right would have had a field day with him. Yesterday Labor and Likud were forced to praise the "security forces." Had the operation gone wrong, or if the prisoners had escaped, the criticism from both sides of the political spectrum would have focused on Olmert, not the army.

Kadima's strategists could not have wished for a more successful operation only a day before the pollsters began their work for the weekend papers. This week's polls are critical: If Kadima's slide can be halted at 37 or 38 Knesset seats less than two weeks before the election, then there will be a general sense that the battle has been won. If it was only up to the advisers, they would have given the green light for the Jericho operation next week. Yesterday morning Olmert toured Ariel and declared that the city will forever remain part of Israel. The move was intended to curry favor with the right in the wake of the shock wrought by last weekend's interviews. But the Ariel visit was swallowed up by images of Palestinian prisoners being marched toward an Israeli jail.

Sharon promised, Olmert kept the promise. If that's not passing on the baton, then what is? Now we must wait and see whether Kadima restrains itself, or whether it uses images from the Jericho operation in its election broadcasts.

Uni newspaper calls Jews 'bloodsuckers'

THE University of Western Sydney has been enveloped in a race row over a student newspaper article which refers to Jewish people as "bloodsuckers".

An outraged Jewish community has demanded an apology for the "anti-semitic" comments published by student and UWS board member Luke Fomiatti.

Vice Chancellor Janice Reid has been forced to write to almost 40,000 students and staff stating the article - in the university newspaper The Western Onion - was unacceptable.

Intended as a send-up of the Muslim cartoon issue, the front page spread includes anti-Jewish drawings and refers to "a vampire with a Star of David tattoo drinking the blood of a young boy labelled Europe".

NSW Jewish Board of Deputies president David Knoll has written to Mr Fomiatti saying the article sought to "dehumanise Jews by resorting to the offensive language and disgusting illustrations which were a tool of Nazi Germany".

"To say that the Jewish community is appalled by the racist material that appeared on the front page ... is an understatement," Mr Knoll said.

"If it was an attempt to be funny it failed.

"Your front page followed the example of the Iranian government which responded to the Danish cartoons by promoting an international competition for anti-semitic cartoons.

Mr Fomiatti said yesterday he had received hate mail and been threatened with physical harm, which had been referred to police.

"I wanted to make a point in a strong way... but some students haven't understood it," he said. "I am using the experience of the Nazi Party's anti-semitism to condemn racism and bigotry.

"There will be an explanation in the next edition and I will say sorry to have offended people."

Mr Fomiatti received a letter from the university administration seeking an explanation for the article and hinting he could face misconduct proceedings.

In her letter Professor Reid said the article would "upset many people" and was not funny

Jews celebrate censorship

Apparently oblivious to the ever-increasing awareness of their subversive presence, Jews are merrily celebrating a landmark decision by a Canadian tribunal that, in effect, outlaws all negative observations about their activities and behavior.

The sock-puppets of the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal on Friday leveled two White men with $13,000 in penalties and ordered them to stop "spreading hate" after finding that they posted offensive material on their websites about blacks, Jews and other minorities.

"The material... is likely to expose persons who are non-Christian or non-Caucasian to hatred or contempt," the 48-page ruling states.

"Black persons and people of the Jewish faith are particularly laid open to ridicule, ill feelings or hostility, creating the right conditions for hatred or contempt against them to flourish."

The "tribunal" ordered one White to pay a Jew $5,000 for identifying him in a "hate message." The Jew told the Canadian Press that he was "ecstatic" with the decision. "It shows human-rights laws work," he said.

Canadian Jewish Congress CEO Bernie Farber said the plaintiff had done Canadians a "valuable service."

"This was exactly the kind of case that should come before the Canadian Human Rights Commission," Farber said.

The "hate" websites were shut down after Faber's organization complained to Toronto police about four years ago.

Russian Communist leader sees U.S. behind bird flu outbreak

MOSCOW. March 14 (Interfax) - Russian Communist party leader Gennady Zyuganov has blamed the United States for the spread of avian influenza, or bird flu, in a number of European countries, including Russia.

"The forms of warfare are changing. It's strange that not a single duck has yet died in America - they are all dying in Russia and European countries. This makes one seriously wonder why," Zyuganov said at a press conference at the Interfax main office on Tuesday.

Zyuganov said that he has good knowledge of war gases as he dealt with them during his army service.

"I tested all kinds of war gases at a range myself," he said.

Asked to be more precise as to whether he believes the bird flu outbreak could be a deliberate attack by the U.S., Zyuganov answered positively.

"I not only suggest this, I know very well how this can be arranged. There is nothing strange here," he said.

POLICE CALL ON CITIZENS TO WATCH SPY CAMS; REPORT WRONGDOING

The East Orange, NJ Police Department is getting ready to greatly enlarge its ranks, with what's being called the "Virtual Community Patrol."

Soon-to-be-chosen residents will get access to a a Web site that provides panoramic views of their block, allows them to type in general complaints, pinpoint a problem location, immediately send that information to police headquarters, and simultaneously activate hidden police surveillance cameras, Police Director Jose Cordero said.

The "Virtual Community Patrol" will be the first such project of its kind in the nation, reports the STAR-LEDGER.

For example, an individual might see suspicious drug activity around a parked car, get on the Internet, type in a brief description of what's happening, use a cursor to pinpoint the trouble spot on one of six neighborhood still pictures that pop up, then transmit that information to the police command communications center, he said.

Saddam Silenced For Fingering US In Iraq Bombings
One show trial ends prematurely, another begins

After the murder of Slobo Milosevic prevented the true Butchers of Serbia, Wes Clark and Bill Clinton, from being brought to justice, on the very first day of Saddam Hussein's testimony the judge turned off his microphone and ordered all media to leave following Saddam's comments that the civil war in Iraq is being deliberately fueled by the US.

Over the past few weeks we have highlighted Israeli and US foreign policy documents that actually encourage not deter the break out of civil war in Iraq. Decades old blueprints document how inter-Arab conflict would be beneficial to the Neo-Cons,(Talmudic Hassidim of Sanhedrin)  initiating ethnic cleansing in Iraq and drawing in Iran and Syria to provide a pretext to expand the war.

Several highly suspicious events over the past year, such as the Samarra Mosque bombing and the staged SAS attack on Iraqi police, have brought this eventuality closer.

High profile trials like those of Milosevic and Hussein often backfire because top level criminality on the part of the US government and its international henchmen NATO and the UN is always exposed by the defendant.

The Hague were losing the case against Milosevic because he provided documented evidence of US government support of Al-Qaeda and Bin Laden in the late 1990's and was about to call Bill Clinton as a witness.

Similarly, Saddam's defense consists of he fact that the chemical and biological weapons allegedly used to poison residents of Halabja in March 1988 were sold to him by the US government and specifically Donald Rumsfeld.

Today, Hussein fingered the hidden hand behind the staged bombings in Iraq and his microphone was immediately shut off by the judge. From the AP,

Since all transcripts of the trial are edited before their release we have no idea of the full extent of Saddam's comments. To emphasize how much of a dog and pony show trial this is, it was also reported that the entire trial was subject to a practice run before it even began, so the puppet judge is just working to a script and the whole farce has already been staged. Even the Financial Times of London remarked that this was "bizarre."

U.S.-led raid kills civilians north of Balad

Police, American military differ on number of casualties

BAGHDAD (CNN) -- A U.S.-led raid on a suspected site of terror network al Qaeda in Iraq killed 11 civilians -- including five children -- according to Iraqi police, but the U.S. military said the death toll from the strike north of Balad was four.

In addition to the children, the youngest of whom was 6 months old, the dead included four women and two men, police said.

A U.S. military spokesman said a suspected insurgent, two women and a child were killed in the raid on a building about 10 miles (16 kilometers) north of Balad.

U.S.-led forces came under fire as they raided the building, said Maj. Tim O'Keefe. Air support fired on the site, and the targeted building and a vehicle were destroyed, O'Keefe said.

A man suspected of being a "foreign fighter facilitator" was taken into coalition custody and is being questioned.

Police Capt. Laith Mohammed told The Associated Press that U.S. warplanes and armor were involved in the strike, which flattened a house and killed the 11 people inside. (Gallery -- Viewer discretion advised)

An AP reporter at the scene said the roof of the house collapsed, three cars were destroyed and two cows killed.

AP photographs showed the bodies of two men, five children and four other covered bodies arriving at a hospital in Tikrit accompanied by grieving relatives.

More U.S. troops headed to Iraq

An armored battalion of up to 700 U.S. troops from the 1st Armored Division has been ordered into Iraq, military officials said Wednesday.

The move comes amid rising sectarian violence, but a U.S. official attributed the need for extra backup to the seating of the new Iraqi parliament and an upcoming Shiite religious holiday. (Watch U.S. officials express unease about execution killings -- 2:36)

Some troops already have arrived in the Baghdad area. About 132,000 U.S. forces are in Iraq.

A brigade of about 3,500 troops from the 1st Armored Division has been on standby in Kuwait as a backup force. The battalion will stay in Iraq for some weeks, and then officials said they would evaluate how much longer they are needed.

Congressional cmte. backs tougher Iran sanctions

A US Congressional committee approved Wednesday a new bill which is intended to toughen the sanctions against Iran and target international firms that invest in the Iran energy industry.

The Iran Freedom Support Act was approved in the House International Relations Committee by a 37 to 3 majority, but despite the overwhelming support it gained, it is not yet clear when it will be brought to the House floor for a vote, mainly due to the administration's opposition to the new legislation.

The proposed legislation, sponsored by Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) and Howard Berman (D-CA) has 347 co-sponsors. It calls for tightening the existing sanctions against Iran and for action against foreign firms that conduct business with Iran, in order to exert economic pressure on the Teheran regime.

The House version of the bill demands that any foreign company that invests over $20 million in Iran's energy industry be reported and that US firms will be required to divest from these companies and not to invest in them in the future.

The proposed legislation also toughens the restrictions stated in a former law - The Iran Libya Sanctions Act (ILSA) which imposes sanctions on foreign firms that make significant investments in Iran's petroleum industry.

The sponsors of the new bill claim that the administration was too lenient in imposing sanctions according to the existing law, and that is the reason there is need for a new legislation which would force the administration to act against these firms.

Since the ILSA law was passed in 1996 only one firm was found in violation of its rules. The firm was not sanctioned because former president Clinton used his waiver and determined that due to national security considerations there should be no action taken against the firm.

The Bush administration has expressed publicly its opposition to the Iran Freedom Support Act, claiming it would complicate the US's diplomatic efforts to build an international front against Iran. (WAR)  Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Nicholas Burns said last week in a congressional hearing that the administration believes that the existing legislation concerning Iran is sufficient and that the new proposed bill might divide the international community.
