U.S. Church Alliance Denounces Iraq War
PORTO ALEGRE, Brazil Feb 18, 2006 (AP)— A coalition of
American churches sharply denounced the U.S.-led war in Iraq on Saturday,
accusing Washington of "raining down terror" and apologizing to
other nations for "the violence, degradation and poverty our nation has
The statement, issued at the largest gathering of Christian churches in
nearly a decade, also warned the United States was pushing the world toward
environmental catastrophe with a "culture of consumption" and its
refusal to back international accords seeking to battle global warming.
"We lament with special anguish the war in Iraq, launched in deception
and violating global norms of justice and human rights," said the
statement from representatives of the 34 U.S. members of World Council of
Churches. "We mourn all who have died or been injured in this war. We
acknowledge with shame abuses carried out in our name."
The World Council of Churches includes more than 350 mainstream Protestant,
Anglican and Orthodox churches; the Roman Catholic Church is not a member. The
U.S. groups in the WCC include the Episcopal Church, the Presbyterian Church
(USA), the United Methodist Church, several Orthodox churches and Baptist
denominations, among others.
The statement is part of widening religious pressure on the Bush
administration, which still counts on the support of evangelical churches and
other conservative denominations but is widely unpopular with liberal-minded
The Very Rev. Leonid Kishkovsky, the moderator for the U.S. group of WCC
members, said the letter was backed by the leaders of the churches but was not
cleared by lower-level bodies. He predicted friction within congregations
about the tone of the message.
"There is much internal anguish and there is division," said
Kishkovsky, ecumenical officer of the Orthodox Church of America. "I
believe church leaders and communities are wrestling with the moral questions
that this letter is addressing."
On Friday, the U.S. National Council of Churches which includes many WCC
members released a letter appealing to Washington to close the Guantanamo Bay
detention facility and saying reports of alleged torture violated "the
fundamental Christian belief in the dignity of the human person."
The two-page statement from the WCC group came at the midpoint of a 10-day
meeting of more than 4,000 religious leaders, scholars and activists
discussing trends and goals for major Christian denominations for the coming
decades. The WCC's last global assembly was in 1998 in Zimbabwe just four
months after al-Qaida staged twin bombings at U.S. embassies in Kenya and
"Our country responded (to the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks) by seeking to
reclaim a privileged and secure place in the world, raining down terror on the
truly vulnerable among our global neighbors … entering into imperial
projects that seek to dominate and control for the sake of national
interests," said the statement. "Nations have been demonized and God
has been enlisted in national agendas that are nothing short of
The Rev. Sharon Watkins, president of the Christian Church (Disciples of
Christ), worried that some may interpret the statement as undermining U.S.
troops in Iraq.
"We honor their courage and sense of duty, but … we, as people of
faith, have to say to our brothers and sisters, `We are so profoundly
sorry,'" Watkins said.
The message also accused U.S. officials of ignoring warnings about climate
change and treating the world's "finite resources as if they are private
possessions." It went on to criticize U.S. domestic policies for refusing
to confront racism and poverty.
"Hurricane Katrina revealed to the world those left behind in our own
nation by the rupture of our social contract," said the statement.
The churches said they had "grown
heavy with guilt" for not doing enough to speak out against the
Iraq war and other issues. The statement asked forgiveness for a world that's
"grown weary from the violence, degradation and poverty our nation has

Irving recants on Holocaust?
British historian David Irving said he no longer denies the Holocaust happened.
"I´m not a Holocaust denier. Obviously, I´ve changed my views,"
Irving told reporters Monday ahead of his Vienna trial on charges of
questioning the Nazi genocide of the Jews. "History is a constantly
growing tree. The more you know, the more documents become available, the more
you learn," he said. "Yes, there were gas chambers. Millions of Jews
died, there is no question." Irving, 68, was arrested upon arriving in
Austria last November to address a right-wing student group. In the country of
Hitler´s birth, Holocaust denial carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in
prison. Irving´s lawyer said he would probably plead guilty but ask the court
for a reduced sentence, citing his change of attitude.

Irving gets three years in jail for Holocaust
By Amiram Barket, Haaretz Correspondent and News Agencies
VIENNA, Austria - Right-wing British historian
David Irving was convicted in Austria on Monday of denying the Holocaust - a
crime in this country once run by the Nazis - and was sentenced to three years
Now ran by

Irving, 67, who had pleaded guilty and insisted during his one-day trial that
he had a change of heart and now acknowledged the Nazis' World War II slaughter
of 6 million Jews, had faced up to 10 years behind bars for the offense.
During the trial, Irving conceded he erred in contending there were no Nazi gas
chambers at Auschwitz.

There are those among us who hate those among us who even think about this. They
want us to fight the Palestinians to the death, all of them, once and for all,
in that blissful illusion that such a thing were even possible. Many of those
who urge the fight to the death, incidentally, live six to eight time zones
Meanwhile, all of us hate the insecurity that comes of trying to interpret the
statements that point toward a profound change in Hamas.
We hate, perhaps most of all, to think that we could be wrong.
We hate it to death. So much
so, that there is no easy way to literally translate into Hebrew the simple
expression ?I am wrong.?
It scares us to death to suspect the near-indigestible
possibility that Hamas may be just what we needed.
But maybe just this once it might be time to hold back on the jeremiads, the
unequivocal pronouncements, the unqualified judgments that we love so much.
And which, even coming from the Shin Bet, are so often so wrong.
There is no question that for more than a decade, Hamas reigned as the
unchallenged empire of local terror. They killed hundreds of Israelis in suicide
bombings. They vowed to bury the state and see its Jews expelled.
They have run our lives for longer than we know. Oslo died because Hamas was

It means the jury's still out on Hamas. Perhaps within Hamas as well.

Then what is all of this? Beyond it all, we hate thinking
that Hamas might be telling the truth.
The right (Hassidic Sanhedrin
of Chabad Lubavitch, Neo-Conmen of Washington DC)
drills the refrain that we should believe them, believe them, believe every
word, when Hamas says in its charter that Israel should be eliminated.
We were instructed by the right to believe every word Hamas said when they said

So if Hamas was telling the truth and nothing but the truth before, why should
we staunchly refuse to believe Hamas now if it says - in public, clearly, in so
many words - that there's been a change?
"Today, there is something new. There's been a change today," Hamas
activist Razi Hamid, editor of a Hamas newspaper in Gaza, said this week.
"In the past, Hamas said we were against elections, against the [idea of
the] Palestinian Authority, against participation in the government. Today,
Hamas is taking part in the elections, in the government," Hamid told Army
Radio in Hebrew. "In the new political situation, Hamas is speaking today
of a political solution, a cease-fire, we are ready to talk about agreements.
There has been a substantive change within Hamas."
Where the Hamas Charter speaks of "an end to the conflict and the end of
the occupation," Hamas, from Khaled Meshaal on down, is speaking clearly of
the occupation of the West Bank and Gaza, Hamid said.
"This is a new page today. We agree to an independent Palestinian state
with the 1967 borders," Hamid said. "Today there is an opportunity to
reach a political settlement."
Here's the truly scary part. What if we can trust them?
We knew we couldn't trust Arafat. We know that the Arafat-led Authority, in its
final form, was the last thing we needed. In an effort to garner tactical
advantage both in peace talks and within Fatah, Arafat brought us the worst war
in more than a generation, more Israeli dead than in Lebanon. Arafat fostered,
in essence, a second Yom Kippur War.
To the extent that the taadia has worked it has worked becuase Hamas, for its
own reasons, willed it so. The Al Aqsa Martyrs, sponsored by Fatah and the
Islamic Jihad, sponsored by Iran, have done everything they could to destroy it.
Israelis know terror as well as anyone in the world. You make the perverse
calculations - they hit this mall last week, this street yesterday, so the
security will be better there now. You know when it's going on, and whn it's
not. You know it in your bones. And they know relative calm as well.
Now the settlers and the far-right, who have the most to lose from a cease-fire
- settlements - are going out of their way to prove that terrorism is rampant.
But the taadia, a relative calm at best, has held to a remarkable extent,
especially considering the large number of Israeli assassination missions, and
the economic state of the Palestinians, which is criticially poverty stricken
even by traditional Gaza refugee camp standards of misery.
We know they were telling the truth when they said there was no living with us.
The right will say that Hamas is lying now just to gain temporary advantage.
They still want us out of here.
Some surprise. We want them out of here, too. Just as much.
We both failed in trying. Perhaps both of our peoples are finally ready to try
something new. Living apart, and going on living.

Iran to Hamas:
Hamas receives support:
Iran's spiritual leader Khamenei meets with Hamas Politburo Chief Mashaal, tells

(Of course the jews had to insert that) Iran's
spiritual leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei met Monday with Hamas Politburo Chief
Khaled Mashaal and other members of the group visiting Tehran, telling them they
must continue to fight Israel.
"The only way to succeed is to continue to resist the occupation,"
Khamenei said. "The Palestinian people knew voting for Hamas marks the
continuation of fighting against the Zionist occupation regime."
Later, Mashaal met with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Khaled Mashaal with Khamenei
Khamenei noted Hamas' recent election victory was a "sweet
surprise, and proof Allah's promises materialize." His comments were
quoted by Iran's official news agency. The country's spiritual leader also
called for unity among Palestinians, which he said was necessary in order to
achieve their national goals.
and Iran is being deceived by the Hamas of Sanhedrin
Mashaal, meanwhile, praised Iran's position, and noted "Hamas' victory
belongs to all Muslim nations. Of course Iran has a part in the triumph."
"This victory was a blessing by the almighty, meant to spare the blood
of the oppressed and reward the martyrs," Mashaal said.

Khamenei later lauded Hamas for continuing its elections campaign despite the
obstacles, saying "they continued the campaign until Allah's promises were
fulfilled one after the other."

Son the savior
"All those victories are a result of resistance to the occupation,"
Khamenei said, and praised the Palestinian people for being "intelligent
and politically mature" and voting for Hamas with the knowledge this will
mean continued resistance.
Iran's spiritual leader backed Mashaal's position, which rejects recognition of
Israel, and demanded Palestinian refugees be allowed to return to Israel and the
establishment of a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
"This is the only way to succeed," Khamenei said.
Khamenei also called on Arab countries to assist the new Hamas-led government
and back its refusal to recognize Israel.
"Such support will boost the link between Muslims and Palestinians and
have great influence on the world, while also boosting the moral of those facing
Israel's systematic belligerence," he said.
Mashaal arrived in Tehran from Syria, where he
met with senior Turkish officials and discussed with them financial aid to the
Palestinian government. Hamas leaders are expected to visit more countries in
the coming days are hoping to visit Kuwait during the tour.

Yet more Holocaust denial from the Islamic Republic of Iran, this time in a
letter by a "professor" to the leader of Iran’s small Jewish
community, who recently slammed Iran president Ahmadinejad’s repeated denials
of the Holocaust.
Iran’s official news agency IRNA reported that the director of the
Tehran-based Department for Iranian Studies, Abbas Salimi Namin, said "the

In a letter to head of Iranian Jewish community, Haroon Yashayee, a copy of
which was faxed to IRNA, Salimi Namin said, "As you know, Holocaust has
only concentrated on the genocide of the Jews and made no mention of the large
nomadic communities (the Gypsies) and Christian Slavs who
were slaughtered by the Nazi army."
He pointed out, "Even the least support is not being given to victims
from other communities slaughtered during World War II and large
sums in compensation are being channeled from Europe and the US to the racist
Zionists to continue their crimes against humanity."
Salimi Namin also said that the Zionists are deceiving the international
community by making use of the unreal massacre of six million Jews in the
Holocaust and there are several historians and authors who
are being subject to legal actions for challenging the magnitude of the death
toll among the Jews.
He called on the Iranian Jewish community to distinguish between the
systematic genocide perpetrated by the Zionists in the occupied territory of
Palestine and their distortion of the history of the faithful followers of
Prophet Moses (Peace Be Upon Him) which would be a service of the Jewish
community in the entire world.
Salimi Namin invited Iranian Jewish community leader Yashayee to
"debate" the issue on television.
Earlier, Yashayee had forwarded a letter to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
expressing reservations about the president’s statement about the Holocaust.
A commenter (apparently David
Shabatai of NYU) on Hirhurim
that Rabbi Fischer, the Monsey-mohel linked to one death and one case of
brain damage due to transmission of the herpes virus during mitzitza
b'peh, the controversial oral-to-genital-suction of the open
circumcision wound still practiced by many haredim, spoke at the
conference of the Association of Orthodox
Jewish Scientists – the once proud organization that has been
largely marginalized since the days of Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan. It is now
heavily influenced by haredim, as one can see from Rabbi Fischer's
presence and the presence of Agudath Israel's Rabbi Dovid Zwiebel at the
convention as speakers.
The conference had a session on mitzitza b'peh (MBP), and
Rabbi Fischer spoke:
R. Fisher from Monsey spoke somewhat unexpectedly at the end (I don't
know if they caught this part on tape).
He said he met personally with both R. YS Elyashiv shlita and R.
Wozner shlita [Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv, head of the haredi non-hasidic
world, and Rabbi Shmuel HaLevi Wozner, a leading haredi rabbinic decisor]
together with R. Dr. Mordechai Halperin [the head of the haredi Schlessinger
Institute for Jewish Medical Ethics] (or one of his
representatives). Anybody who knows anything about R. Halperin knows
that he is so yashar [straight] and such a mentch that there is
no question that the data was presented accurately and fairly.
he is a pedophile sick perverted Blasphemous
He said that both posekim held that the statistics were too
insignificant to come into halakhic play and they encouraged him to
continue to practice MBP and gave him a bracha for hatzlacha.
There you have it, folks. The leaders of the haredi world have ruled
that, not only should MBP continue to be practiced, but the very mohel
who transmitted the infection that killed one baby and caused brain damage
in another should continue to practice both circumcision and MBP.
Another speaker, Dr. Jacob Fleischman, fretted that we do not have the
"gold standard," a genetic stamp, for linking Rabbi Fischer to
the transmission, but didn't note why that is. It is because Rabbi Fischer
has consistently refused to be tested or to provide a sample for
After the session, Rabbi Gil Student of Hirhurim overheard a famous
pediatrician complaining (rightfully) about Dr. Fleischman's presentation:
This doctor thought Dr. Fleischman should have been more emphatic
about the clinical evidence. You need three things to transmit herpes: a
wet surface (mouth or genitalia), direct contact, and an incubation
period (of which the vast majority is around 8 days). In the reported
cases, the mohel was the only one who fulfilled all of those
There is no reason to beat around the bush. The haredi world is a
danger – to our future, to our Torah, to our way of life. They are
regressing back into the 18th century. And worst of all, they are a very
real and present danger to their own children. To encourage a mohel, who
has apparently killed one child and maimed another, to continue to
suck on the open penile wounds of eight-day-old infants is nothing
short of child abuse and reckless endangerment. Let New York City do what
is necessary to ban this practice and prosecute those, including
rabbis and parents, who violate the ban.
The haredi world is clearly not responsible enough to police its own.
So let the government do it. And let them do it immediately.

Estates in Medicaid
1, state will recoup costs after patient dies
The state will start tapping the estates of dead Medicaid
patients May 1 to recoup the cost of their medical care.
“We were hoping this would never come to pass,” said
Debbie Studdard, director of the Area Agency on Aging of Northwest Georgia.
“It’s going to be a hard choice for some people.”
The estate recovery program will apply to Medicaid recipients
of all ages who are permanently institutionalized or live in nursing homes or
intermediate-care facilities for the mentally retarded. It also applies to
recipients who are 55 and older who receive nursing home or home- and
Letters went out last week to notify them that they have until
March 31 to opt out of the services or their estates will be charged for all
expenses incurred by Medicaid as of Aug. 1, 2001.
Studdard could not say Friday how many local people the new
initiative will affect, but she voiced concern about the fate of the Community
Cares Services Program. The growing and successful Medicaid waiver program
provides help ranging from adult day care to medically related transportation
and light housekeeping to older and disabled residents.
“This program keeps people in their homes, which is a lot
less expensive than putting them in a nursing home,” she said.
“But,” Studdard continued, “people are going to be
to apply out of fear they
might lose their homes.”
The “estate” in the estate recovery program includes a
recipient’s home and any other personal property and promissory notes. Estates
valued at less than $25,000 are exempt, and heirs can request a delay if there
is a surviving spouse, a disabled adult child or a child younger than 21 years
In addition to recovering money from an estate, the rules also
allow the state to place a lien on the home of a Medicaid recipient in a nursing
home if the person has received at least six consecutive months of care and
“there is no reasonable expectation” that the person will return home.
“We haven’t started getting calls on this yet, but we
will,” Studdard said.
Georgia and Michigan are the only states that have not
implemented an estate-recovery program as mandated by a 1993 federal law, and
Michigan could adopt legislation as early as this year. Failure to do so could
result in the federal government withholding Medicaid money.
Georgia lawmakers approved the collection in 2004, but public
outcry temporarily put the program on hold.
The Department of Community Health notified agencies in early
February that the program will begin in the spring.

'President's gone insane'

"I'm a lifelong Republican and I think the President's gone
insane," said Gadiel, 58, who heads 9/11 Families for a Secure America.
Two of the 19 9/11 hijackers were citizens of Dubai, the Arab emirate whose
bid to run ports in New York, New Jersey and four other cities was okayed by the
White House even though investigators have found signs that money used to
finance terrorism flowed through Dubai banks.
"How the hell could this happen?" fumed Bill Doyle, 58, a retired
Staten Island stockbroker whose son Joseph also died when the Trade Center fell.
"We're not securing our country in any way by selling our ports to
foreigners," he said.
Gadiel and Doyle stood with Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) yesterday at the
harbor to express their outrage.
Bruse DeCell, 55, whose son-in-law died in the attacks, said that homeland

The Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) is lobbying for
the United Nations to include language against

chief Javier Solana said he supported the idea.

"We agreed to take different measures including at the
level of the United Nations to guarantee these acts will not be repeated,"
OIC Ekmelettin Ihsanoglu Secretary General said in Jeddah.
The head of the 57-nation body was speaking at a press
conference with Solana, who arrived overnight in the birthplace of Islam at the
start of a Middle East tour to try and calm the furore over caricatures.
"We have been talking today on how we can send a message to
the people in both communities, the Islamic and European, that we need this not
to happen again ... We strongly hope that people will be now sensible to
understand that," Solana said.
"Be sure we are going to do our utmost for this not to
happen again, because we need each other... I don’t think honestly it will
happen again," he added.
Ihsanoglu said he also wanted the
EU to pass blasphemy laws.

We are told in Revelation 3 of the 7 Churches. The last
church or church age is symbolized by the Church of Laodicea. Laodicea means
"the rights of the people." Thus, this was a church governed by the
will of the people, rather than the will of God. This is the church age from
which the Antichrist will emerge. It is the church age Paul talked about that
would not endure sound doctrine, but would gather around them teachers that
would say what their itching ears wanted and desired to hear (2 Tim 4:3). This
church is described as lukewarm, indifferent, not concerned with right and
wrong, or with good and evil. They take a neutral position: one of "live
and let live; don’t rock the boat; and don’t cause waves." They are
trying to serve two masters—God and self (or the world).
We will continue to monitor the church's faithfulness to the teaching of the
Word of God, realizing that the church of the last days will be marked by
apostasy and a falling away. This does not mean that God is not moving and doing
great things - but can we also identify the wolves in sheep's clothing?

Survey: Two-Thirds of Evangelicals Doubt Jesus' Words Regarding Salvation
Thru Him Alone
There's a new poll out which points to a growing
rejection among Evangelicals that Jesus is the only way of salvation. For
years, most evangelical Christians have been taught and accepted the words of
Jesus in John 14:6, where He states, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the
Life, and no man cometh unto the Father but my Me." But now a new Newsweek/Beliefnet
poll is showing a shocking number of people who call themselves evangelical and
born-again have come to reject those words. The
question in the poll read: "Can a good person who isn't of your religious
faith go to heaven or attain salvation, or not?" According to the poll
results of more than 1,000 adults 18 years of age and older, 68
percent of evangelical Christians believe "good" people of other
faiths can also go to heaven. Nationally, 79 percent of those surveyed
said the same thing, with an "astounding" 91
percent agreement among Catholics, notes Beliefnet. Beliefnet spokesman
Steven Waldman calls the results "pretty amazing."
US ME plan backfiring, says Ahmadinejad
TEHRAN, Feb 19: Washington’s push for Middle East democracy is resulting in
across the board victories for Islamic movements, Iran’s President Dr Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad said in an interview published On Sunday.
Ahmadinejad also branded Western democracy as a “lie”,
said Islamic militants would not be disarmed and predicted the defeat of
the “myth of an invincible and eternal Zionism” enshrined by the state of
The comments came as US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice left for a Middle
East tour to push efforts to spread democracy and counter what the United States
views as an increasingly aggressive Iranian policy.
“The American slogan of democracy has had the reverse effect in Iran, Iraq,
Lebanon and even Palestine. Everywhere in the Islamic world, when there are free
and fair elections, the Islamists and groups favouring resistance are
winning,” the president told the official news agency IRNA.
“The myth of an invincible and eternal Zionism and its ideal (of a greater
Israel) from the Nile to the Euphrates was being
given a pounding by the 1979 Islamic Revolution and has been in retreat ever
since,” he said.
“The retreat of oppression from Iran, Lebanon and even Palestine are important
victories. The Palestinian people voted for resistance to continue and the ideal
of a Palestine free of occupation, and not politics in the shadow of Zionism,”
he added, referring to last month’s legislative election win by Hamas.
“This is a first step and other successes will come.”
Ahmadinejad, who himself scored a landslide election win last June in the face
of more moderate Iranian forces, also argued that “people do not believe in
the lie of Western democracy”.
“The Palestinian brothers are aware of the enemies’ objective to transform
the forces of resistance, those against occupation and the partisans of
martyrdom into political wheeler-dealers and Western-style democrats,” he
“The United States wants to disarm Hezbollah in Lebanon, Hamas and the
Palestinians fighters in order to repress the resistance forces and transform
them into opportunist groups. But the Lebanese and Palestinians are aware and
will maintain their revolutionary unity,” Ahmadinejad said.
Earlier this week the US secretary of state described Iran as “a strategic
challenge to the United States, to the world, and a destabilising influence in
the Middle East.” Iran is accused
of using an atomic energy drive as a mask for weapons development, and
Washington has refused to rule out taking military action against the regime.
Remember how they "Accused" Iraq before
murdering tens of thousands?
Rice said all worried states must “challenge Iran’s aggressive policies”,
expressed concern about a network formed by Iran,
Syria and the Hezbollah group in Lebanon and branded Tehran as the
“central banker for terrorism”.
Now for the talmudic Jewish media fables
Iran enjoys close ties with Hezbollah, Hamas and Islamic Jihad, sharing their
refusal to recognise Israel and openly calling for the total eradication of the
Jewish state — yet at the same time denying that it finances these groups.
ISREAL WARNED: Iran on Sunday warned that any Israeli attack against it would
provoke a swift response, state-run television reported.
Intelligence Minister Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejehei said an Israeli attack would
“In case the Zionist regime attacks Iran, it will get a swift response and
will regret its action,” Ejehei was quoted as saying.
Israel has threatened to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities if negotiations fail
to convince Iran to give up its uranium enrichment programme. Iran has
repeatedly warned of a strong response if attacked. Iran resumed small scale
uranium enrichment earlier this month after the International Atomic Energy
Agency reported it to the UN Security Council over its nuclear programme.—
