MADRID (Reuters) - Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday he would invite Hamas leaders to Moscow, opening a crack in a wall of U.S.-led opposition to dealing with the Palestinian election winner until it recognized Israel.

Ismail Haniyeh, a senior Hamas official said in Gaza that leaders of the group, whose charter calls for Israel's destruction, "would be delighted" to visit Russia if Putin tendered a formal invitation.

Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Mark Regev said in Jerusalem there should be no talks with Hamas until it recognized the Jewish state's right to exist, "renounced terror" and accepted the Middle East peace process.

That demagogues and agitators are exploiting those cartoons of Mohammed to advance a war of civilizations and expel Europeans from the Middle East seems undeniable.

 

But that does not excuse the paralyzing stupidity of that Danish paper in running those cartoons ­ or the arrogant irresponsibility of European newspapers in plastering those cartoons all over their front pages.

 

The storm first broke last September, when Jyllands-Posten published 12 caricatures of Mohammed, including a lampoon of the Prophet with a terrorist bomb as a turban. In the Islamic faith, any depiction of the face of Mohammed is forbidden.

 

The Danish paper knew this. It published the cartoons to protest "the rejection of modern, secular society" by Muslims. The cartoons were thus a defiant provocation. And they succeeded.

 

The Middle East responded with a boycott of Danish foods and goods. But when, in the name of press solidarity, Le Soir and Le Monde in Paris, El Pais in Madrid and Die Welt in Berlin republished the cartoons on page one, Islam exploded. For this was an in-your-face declaration by the secularist media of the European Union that it will exercise its right to insult any God, any Prophet, any faith, whenever it so chooses.

 

"Enough lessons from these reactionary bigots," said Serge Faubert, editor of Le Soir. "Just because the Quran bans images of Mohammed doesn't mean non-Muslims have to submit to this."

 

Faubert, however, is not a Danish soldier in the Shi'ite sector of Iraq. Innocents will pay the price of his heroism.

 

The U.S. State Department seemed to empathize with Muslim rage, stating that "inciting religious or ethnic hatred in this manner is unacceptable." But, within hours, State had retreated to neutral ground: "While we share the offense that Muslims have taken at these images, we at the same time vigorously defend the right of individuals to express points of view."

 

As of today the Danish consulate in Beirut has been burned, Danish embassies have been stormed, and Danes are fleeing the Middle East. Europeans are getting out of the West Bank, Gaza and Beirut, where mobs are attacking embassies and Christian churches.

 

Islamic countries have recalled ambassadors from Copenhagen. People have been injured and property destroyed in mob assaults as far away as Indonesia. Relations between the West and the Islamic world have been dealt another rupturing blow.

 

And for what? What was the purpose of this juvenile idiocy by the Europress? Is this what freedom of the press is all about ­ the freedom to insult the faith of a billion people and start a religious war?

 

Can Europeans be that ignorant of the power of the press to inflame when Bismarck's editing of just a few words in the Ems telegram ignited the Franco-Prussian war? Did Europeans learn nothing from the Salman Rushdie episode? Or the firestorm that gripped the Islamic world when Christian ministers in the United States called Mohammed a "terrorist"?

European governments are wringing their hands over the rage and violence unleashed, but they seem paralyzed. What is the matter? Why cannot they denounce press irresponsibility while defending press freedom? Even friends of the West like Hamid Karzai in Afghanistan, President Hosni Mubarak in Egypt and Tayyip Erdogan in Turkey have denounced these cartoons as insults to Islamic values and deeply damaging to Western interests.

 

British Foreign Minister Jack Straw deplored republication of the cartoons as "insensitive ... disrespectful ... wrong." But German Interior Minister Wolfgang Shauble haughtily dissented, "Here, in Europe, governments have nothing to say about which publisher publishes what."

Nor are we all that different. Sen. Trent Lott was ousted as majority leader for a birthday-party compliment to 100-year-old Strom Thurmond. Atlanta Braves pitcher John Rocker was almost lynched for saying he considers New York a social pigsty. There were demands that Rocker undergo psychiatric counseling.

 

We have "speech codes" in colleges and "hate crimes" laws to protect minorities from abusive remarks. But newspapers that hail these codes throw a blanket of "artistic freedom" over scatological art that degrades religious symbols ­ from putting a figure of Christ in a jar of urine to a "painting" of the Virgin Mary surrounded by female genitalia and elephant dung that hung in a Brooklyn museum.

 

What has happened in Europe is that the secular press, which loves to mock the beliefs and symbols of religious faith, has now insulted a deadly serious religion that answers insults with action.

WASHINGTON, DC -- The NATO intelligence provocation appearing in the guise of the scurrilous Mohammed cartoons published by the reactionary newspaper Jyllands Posten of Denmark, and then by a series of other European publications, has already done much to mobilize the armies, bases, and treasuries of Europe in support of the lunatic plan to the Bush-neocon (Talmudic Hassidim of Sanhedrin)  clique for a nuclear sneak attack and punitive expedition against Iran over the coming weeks or months.  As I warned in a red alert for synthetic terrorism issued on total411.info and other sites in the late afternoon of Feb. 3, this entire affair has been cynically orchestrated by NATO intelligence agencies to set the stage for a new world war.

 

In recent years, Moslem and Arab resentment for the various crimes of imperialism has been directed primarily against the United States, the United Kingdom, and Israel.  What is new about the present crisis is that Denmark, Norway, France, and Germany are the main targets this time, while the usual suspects in London and Washington can remain in the background and hypocritically condemn the inflammatory cartoons.  The result has been a massive degeneration of the ideological climate of Europe in favor of militant racism in the form of the Samuel Huntington War of Civilizations.  The Europeans are now far more likely than previously to go to war against Iran as the tail on the Anglo-American kite.  The genocidal demand that the European Union cut off all aid to the Hamas-led government of Palestine has become far more likely to succeed.

 

BILDERGERGERS AND NEOCONS

 

The evidence strongly suggests that the cartoon provocation was presented to Atlanticist oligarchs at the meeting of the Bilderberger group held from May 5 to May 8, 2005 at the Dorint Sofitel Seehotel Überfahrt in Rottach-Egern, on the shores of the Tegernsee lake in the south German federal state of Bavaria.  All three are fanatic proponents of the wider war against Iran, also in the hope of staying out of jail.  Others in attendance included Dutch, Belgian, and Spanish royalty, top Eurocrats and NATO bigwigs (including NATO Secretary General Jaap Hoop de Scheffer himself) from Brussels, Rockefeller and Rothschild international bankers, and such all-purpose villains as Henry Kissinger.  Another prominent participant in the Bavarian Bilderberger group was Anders Eldrep of Denmark, a Bilderberger regular over the last five years.  This Anders Eldrep (or Eldrup),the chairman of DONG (Danish Oil and Natural Gas), is the husband of Merete Eldrep, the managing director of JP/Politikens Hus (JP for Jyllands-Posten), the Danish publishing firm which owns the newspaper which first published the Mohammed cartoons.

 

The Bilderberger group, founded after World War II by Britain's genocidal Prince Philip and the Nazi SS Prince Bernard of the Netherlands, represents one of the key nodal points where the international finance oligarchs meet under US-UK leadership to ratify consensus on larger strategic initiatives.  It was for example the Bilderberger meeting held near Stockholm in Saltsjøbaden, Sweden in the spring of 1973 which secured the final consensus for the Royal Dutch Shell plans for the October 1973 Middle East War and the attendant "Arab" oil boycott, which looted Japan and Europe and imposed global austerity to stabilize the US dollar and the Atlanticist banking system.  That financiers' staged oil boycott was the 1973 version of today's "peak oil" hoax.

PRECONCERT ON BOTH SIDES

 

Danish embassies have been burned in Syria, Lebanon, and Iran.  There are indications that some of these violent riots were not spontaneous, but were the work of mercenary rent-a-mobs stoked and steered by CIA, MI-6 and Mossad.  In Beirut, UN officials told CNN they knew about the riot before it happened.  But the embassy attacks, plus world-wide threats, protests, and economic boycotts, have gone far to convince European public opinion that the war of civilizations between the west and the Moslem world is indeed inevitable.

IF A TERRORIST ATTACK OCCURS, BLAME CHENEY

When might the new hostilities begin?  General Sharon, before he was incapacitated, had told the Israeli Defense Force to be ready to strike Iran in March.  The former US Iraq weapons inspector Scott Ritter says that the attack order has already been given.  Vladimir Zhirinovsky, the maverick Russian politician, thinks that the most likely date is March 28, coincident with the Israeli elections.  Zhirinovsky has longed served as an auxiliary to Russian President Putin, and his estimate may benefit from the insights of the Russian special services.  Whenever the attack comes, it is clear that the NATO logistics and manpower infrastructure ­ the German railways, the French air force and navy, the Italian ports and air bases ­ will play a vital role.  Without these, the US could hardly operate in the Middle East at all.  Today, the US Hassidic neocons may be offering occupation rights in various secondary target countries, like Syria, to tempt countries like France or Italy into joining the war.  When Hitler attacked the USSR in June 1941, he was joined by troops from Italy, Romania, Hungary, Finland, Spain, and other European states.  These auxiliaries had received promises of their own, but they fared poorly.  The parallel is suggestive for the path some Europeans wish to tread today.

 

RATTLING THE CAGES OF OFFICIAL WASHINGTON

 

Last Wednesday, a Home Depot in the Washington DC suburb of Gaithersburg, Maryland was evacuated because of suspicious package emitting a strange smell, which turned out to be a harmless videotape recorder. Last Friday, the Rachel Carson Elementary School in the same community, which is part of the region where many federal officials and bureaucrats live and have their families, was evacuated because of another suspicious package which a local official claimed looked like an Improvised Explosive Device or Iraq-style roadside bomb. It was "something like you might see in a war zone," said the spokesman of the Gaithersburg fire department said to the radio and television that afternoon. The school is typically attended by the children of federal employees. But the "IED" also turned out to be a big nothing. Early this evening, the Russell Senate Office Building was evacuated because of a nerve gas alert that also proved to be groundless, a complete false alarm. But a dozen senators had to flee. This escalating pattern of incidents likely to provoke hysteria among US government officials betrays the intent of the invisible government to overload the circuits and facilitate the stampeding of this government into a wider war full of incalculable danger.

Holocaust-cartoon proposal canned

The Danish newspaper at the heart of the Muslim cartoon furor backed off a plan to publish images lampooning the Holocaust.

A senior staffer at the Jyllands-Posten daily, whose 12 images of the Islamic prophet Mohammed have sparked rioting across the Muslim world, proposed this week to run Holocaust cartoons being commissioned by Iran’s largest newspaper.

But the editor in chief of Jyllands-Posten, Carsten Juste, issued a statement of clarification, saying his paper “in no circumstances will publish Holocaust cartoons from an Iranian newspaper.”

The Moshiach will ask how it could be that the time for redemption has arrived and he still undergoes sufferings? The response that he will receive is that he must wait for nine months. Why? In order to wait for the fall of Persia (Iran) at the hands of Edom (the Christian West), and then the final redemption will come.

Alarm evacuates Senate Office Building

At least eight senators were among 200 people being held in a Capitol parking garage Wednesday night after a security sensor initially indicated the presence of a nerve agent in their office building.

"Tests initially indicated a nerve agent," said Capitol Police Sgt. Kimberly Schneider. "A subsequent test indicated it is not a nerve agent."

Schneider said the senators were among 200 people who were asked to remain in the West Legislative Garage. Senate aides inside the garage said they were told they would be held for up to an hour as authorities awaited the results of a third test for more conclusive results.

Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel was among the lawmakers inside the garage. He and several of his staff were headed out of the Russell Senate Office Building around 7 p.m. when security closed the doors and told everyone to go to the garage, said his spokesman, Mike Buttry.

"We're stuck until they get the results back," Buttry said.

Schneider said none of the people gathered in the garage was showing any signs of sickness or other adverse symptoms, such as a runny nose, that might indicate the presence of a nerve agent.

She did not know whether sensors positioned in the attic of the Russell building, which picked up the suspicious material, were able to tell whether it was in powder, liquid or gas form. Earlier, police said they had discovered a suspicious powder in the attic.

The Homeland Security Department did not have an immediate comment, but a senior counterterror official said it did not immediately appear to be an emergency.

Among the other senators in the building according to aides were: Republican Mike Enzi of Wyoming; Republican Gordon Smith of Oregon; Republican Richard Burr of North Carolina, Republican Larry Craig of Idaho; Republican John Thune of South Dakota; Republican Jeff Sessions of Alabama; and Democrat Christopher Dodd of Connecticut.

Religious Unity: NRP and NU; Degel and Agudah

With only hours to go before the deadline, the National Religious Party and National Union announced an election merger, as did the two Ashekanazi hareidi parties.

At 2 AM, representatives of the two leading religious-Zionist parties signed an agreement to run together as one bloc. The two parties are the National Union, comprising three factions, and the National Religious Party.

The first four places will be occupied by the leaders of the four factions, in this order: Benny Elon (Moledet and National Union Chairman, pictured on left), Zevulun Orlev (NRP, pictured on right), Tzvi Hendel (Tekumah), and Effie Eitam (Religious Zionist Renewal).

In fifth place is Nissan Slomiansky of the NRP.

At a joint press conference today led by the above five, MK Benny Elon said, "We have united in order to lead the right-wing, and in order to lead the country - no less."

MK Orlev said, "This united list is the best answer to the very bad feeling that the religious-Zionist public has about the continuing assault on its values and institutions. The Kadima (Secular zion Aholibah) government represents a dangerous threat to the Jewish identity of this country, as well as to social justice and values."

Unity Despite Differences
The merging of the two parties is a widely-welcomed achievement in the religious-Zionist public, which has signed petitions, sent public figures, taken out newspaper ads and showed in various other ways its desire for unity in the camp. Despite significant differences between the two parties, the leaders finally found the formula - after three months of wrangling - to bridge the divide.

Among the questions that had to be overcome were: Who would head the list? How would the other places be distributed? What to do in the event that one party wants to join the government and the other doesn't? How much emphasis to put on Land of Israel issues in comparison with education and social welfare?

The two parties are likely to face the first challenge to their unity very soon after the election, regarding the question of whether or not to join the new government. The NRP is more likely to want to join a Kadima-led government than is the National Union. The agreement therefore states that if, within the next two years, this question arises, an independent panel is to make the final decision. The panel is to comprise six members: two appointed by each party, and former Chief Rabbis Shapira and Eliyahu.

Exclusive: Rabbi Shalom Elyashiv and Rabbi Ovadia Yosef Helped Renew Ordination For Sanhedrin

(IsraelNN.com) In a dramatic speech at a special session of the developing Sanhedrin to appoint a B'nai Noah Council, Rabbi Dov Levanoni publicly revealed the steps leading up to reinstitution of Semikha - Biblical ordination, renewed through a consensus among the rabbis of a generation living in the Land of Israel.

Levanoni explained that Rabbi Moshe Halberstam, a senior rabbi on Jerusalem's Eda Hareidis, became the first samukh [ordained one] after none of the hundreds of rabbis consulted via written letters expressed objections and after receiving approval by the leading rabbis followed by most of Israel's religious Jews. These rabbis, Levanoni said, included Hareidi-Religious Rabbi Shalom Elyashiv and former Chief Sephardic Rabbi Ovadia Yosef.

"Rav Zalman Nechemia Goldberg gave his blessing as well, along with many others," Rabbi Levanoni said, "and we pray that all of Israel will join in this effort in our days."

In the past, Sanhedrin secretary Rabbi Dov Stein, has written that Former Chief Sephardic Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu endorsed the project indirectly - his son was ordained by Sanhedrin - and that former Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi and Rosh Yeshiva of Merkaz HaRav Kook Rabbi Avraham Shapira chose to abstain on the issue, but refused to discourage it.

Rabbi Levanoni's statement marked the first time Rabbis Yosef and Elyashiv have been publicly tied to the Sanhedrin project and is expected to further increase the influence of the nascent body, which was recently bolstered by Rabbi Adin Even-Israel Steinsaltz's agreement to act as its Nassi [president].

Places 6-9 on the joint list are also distributed equally among the factions, though in a different order than the first four: Yitzchak Levy (RZR), Eli Gabbai (NRP), Aryeh Eldad (Moledet), and Uri Ariel (Tekumah).

In 10th and 11th places on the joint list are Gila Finkelstein and Sha'ul Yahalom of the NRP. The next two places will be filled by the National Union, and the two after that - by the NRP.

Polls have given the National Union approximately 7-8 seats in the coming election, and the NRP 3-4. MK Tzvi Hendel expressed optimism today that the joint list would win 15 seats.

List Comprises Many Former NRP Members
Places 2-7 on the joint list are all occupied by past or present members of the NRP - including two former NRP chairmen. Hendel was elected to the Knesset as a member of the NRP in mid-1996, and left the party two years later, together with then-MK Chanan Porat, to form Tekumah. They left on the backdrop of what they felt was the NRP's lackluster opposition to then-Prime Minister Netanyahu's plans to withdraw from parts of Judea and Samaria.

The NRP leader at the time of the above split was none other than Rabbi Yitzchak Levy. Levy stepped down from his leadership post before the 2003 elections to make way for Effie Eitam in the top spot. Levy and Eitam both split off from the NRP in 2004, on the backdrop of what they felt was the NRP's lackluster opposition to Prime Minister Sharon's Disengagement plan.

Eitam and Levy, as mentioned above, are in places 4 and 6, respectively, on the new religious-Zionist list.

Elon said today that the pre-agreement bickering between the parties was over: "Now comes the wedding itself, and we're running forward together."

Orlev said, "I well understand the mood in our communities, schools and public, and I believe with full faith that this is a festive day in the religious and traditional Zionist movement."

Sour Meimad Response
Rabbi Michael Melchior, who is in Labor's #10 slot as the party's token religious-Zionist on behalf of the left-wing Meimad movement, attacked the NRP. "It is sad that the voices of rational religious Zionism in the NRP have dwindled," he said. "This is a total surrender by Orlev, in terms of values and Torah, to the extremist philosophy of Effie Eitam and partners. Meimad remains the only political alternative acting to unite and bridge between religious and secular. Our important union with the Labor Party is designed to remind us that brothers must go together, in order to preserve a Jewish democratic state."

In the hareidi-religious camp, as well, unity is the order of the day. Degel HaTorah and the hassidic "Agudat Yisrael" party signed an agreement to run together, as they have in the past four elections. Only for the 12th Knesset elections, in 1988, shortly after Degel was founded, did they run separately.

The joint list is called United Torah Judaism, and was approved by Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv and the Gerrer Rebbe. The list will be almost the same as that of the outgoing Knesset, headed by Yaakov Litzman (Agudah), Avraham Ravitz (Degel), Menachem Porush (Agudah), Moshe Gafni (Degel), Shmuel Halpert (Agudah), Yisrael Eichler (Agudah), who is to be replaced by Uri Makleb (Degel) in a rotation agreement after two years.
