Claim says Israel comes
after Jordan
A statement claiming responsibility for blasts in Amman said attacks would soon
target Israel.
The three simultaneous bomb attacks on U.S.-owned hotels in the Jordanian
capital Wednesday killed at least 60 people.
“Al Qaida in Iraq” claimed responsibility in a statement on a website
and said the attack proved that Israel “was within range” and that “it
would not be long” before Israel was targeted.

California gets new
textbooks
The state of California adopted new textbooks that clarify
Jewish issues.
Elementary and middle school social studies textbooks were
adopted this week. Soon sixth-graders in the most populous American state will
learn that Romans, not Jews,
crucified Jesus;
Yes indeed, soon and very soon hearing
the Word of God will be FAMINE. The Gospel will become Criminalized
that the biblical Exodus commemorates national liberation, not Jewish tribal
unity; and that the Jewish God is a god of justice and
mercy, not just reward and punishment.
The Talmudic jewish non God had no Only Begotten SON.
The Talmud states Clearly in Tractate Sanhedrin that the Pharisees Gloat that
THEY and NOT the Romans Crucified the LORD. And that if any worship Jesus as God
they shall be put to death by DECAPITATION......BEWARE of the Leaven of the

AND A HERALD PRECEDES HIM etc. This implies, only immediately before [the
execution], but not previous thereto.33
[In contradiction to this] it was taught: On
the eve of the Passover Yeshu34
was hanged. For forty days before the execution took place, a herald went forth
and cried, 'He is going forth to be stoned because he has practised sorcery and
enticed Israel to apostacy. Any one who can say anything in his favour,
let him come forward and plead on his behalf.'
But since nothing was brought forward in
his favour he was hanged on the eve of the Passover!35
— Ulla retorted: 'Do you suppose that he was one for whom a defence
could be made? Was he not a Mesith
[enticer], concerning whom Scripture says, Neither shalt thou spare, neither
shalt thou conceal him?36
With Yeshu however it was different, for he was connected with the government
[or royalty, i.e., influential].'

MISHNAH. HE [THE REBELLIOUS ELDER] WAS EXECUTED NEITHER BY HIS LOCAL BETH
DIN NOR BY THE BETH DIN AT JABNEH,4
BUT WAS TAKEN TO THE GREAT BETH DIN IN JERUSALEM AND KEPT THERE UNTIL THE
[NEXT] FESTIVAL5 AND EXECUTED THEREON, FOR
IT IS WRITTEN, 'AND ALL
THE PEOPLE SHALL HEAR AND
FEAR, AND DO NO MORE PRESUMPTUOUSLY:'6
THIS IS R. AKIBA'S OPINION. R. JUDAH SAID: HIS JUDGMENT MUST NOT BE DELAYED, BUT
HE IS EXECUTED IMMEDIATELY, WHILST PROCLAMATIONS ARE INDITED AND SENT BY
MESSENGERS TO ALL PLACES, 'SO AND SO HAS BEEN SENTENCED TO DEATH AT BETH DIN.'
GEMARA. Our Rabbis taught: He was executed neither by his local Beth
din nor by the Beth din at Jabneh, but
taken to the great Beth din in Jerusalem and kept there until the [next]
Festival and executed thereon, for it is written, And all
the people shall hear and fear: this is R. Akiba's opinion. But R. Judah
said to him: Is it then stated, 'shall see and fear'? Only 'shall hear and fear'
is stated, why then delay his sentence? But he is executed immediately, and a
proclamation is written and sent to all places: 'So and so
has been sentenced to death at Beth din.'
13. Hence they had to wait till then, when
all Israel assembled in
Jerusalem, that the publicity of his death should serve as a deterrent.
Mt:27:25: Then answered all
the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.

These are some of nearly 1,000 edits and corrections textbook publishers have
agreed to make in their instructional materials as a condition for adoption by
California.
At its meeting Wednesday, the state board of education voted unanimously to
adopt 10 publishers’ educational programs, including textbooks and related
materials, and rejected two.
About one-fifth of the nearly 1,000 edits and corrections were put forward by
the Institute for Curriculum Services, a
project of the San Francisco Jewish Community Relations Council, which
spent months reviewing all 12 proposed educational programs for bias against
Judaism or inaccuracies in their depiction of Jewish history.

Sex-sting rabbi resigned
from rabbinic group
Rabbi David Kaye resigned from the Rabbinical Assembly shortly before a
television news program depicted him allegedly seeking a sexual encounter with
an underage boy.
Rabbi Joel Meyers, executive vice president of the assembly, the rabbinic arm
of the Conservative movement, told JTA that Kaye’s resignation was tendered
five days before the “Dateline NBC” segment aired Nov. 4. No charges are
expected to be filed against Kaye, the Washington Jewish Week reported.
Meyers said Kaye cannot be defrocked because rabbinical ordination cannot be
undone if it is earned honestly, but added that Kaye is “clearly not going to
be able to function as a rabbi again after this incident.” Kaye, who has not
spoken publicly on the incident, allegedly searched the Internet for liaisons
with underage boys and sent them naked pictures of himself.
He has also resigned from Panim, an educational program for Jewish high
school students.

The brochure to be named in the lawsuit appeared under the title “Auschwitz

can understand that when Mashiach comes, his coming will be the prime topic of
the news broadcasts."

Aish HaTorah has an article arguing against
vegetarianism, in part by praising Judaism's treatment of animals:
… At the same time, the Torah stresses compassion for animals.
Indeed, the Jewish forefathers are known affectionately as the
"Seven Shepherds," and the Talmud describes how God chose
Moses for Jewish leadership based on his tender care for flocks of
sheep.
Here are some examples of Jewish legislation regarding the ethical
treatment of animals:
1. It is prohibited to cause pain to animals - tzaar ba'alei chaim.
(Talmud - Baba Metzia 32b, based on Exodus 23:5)
2. One is obligated to relieve an animal's suffering (i.e. unburden
it), even if it belongs to your enemy. (Exodus 23:5)
3. If an animal depends on you for sustenance, it is forbidden to
eat anything until feeding the animal first. (Talmud - Brachot 40a,
based on Deut. 11:15)
4. We are commanded to grant our animals a day of rest on Shabbat.
(Exodus 20:10)
5. It is forbidden to use two different species to pull the same
plow, since this is unfair to the weaker animal. (Deut. 22:10)
6. It is a mitzvah to send away a mother bird before taking her
young. (Deut. 22:7)
7. It is forbidden to kill a cow and her calf on the same day.
(Leviticus 22:28)
8. It is prohibited to sever and eat a limb off a live animal.
(Genesis 9:4; this is one of the "Noachide" laws that apply
to Jews and non-Jews alike.)
9. Shechita (ritual slaughter) must be done with a minimum of pain
to the animal. The blade must be meticulously examined to assure the
most painless form of death possible. ("Chinuch" 451; "Pri
Megadim" - Introduction to Shechita Laws).
10. Hunting animals for
sport is viewed with serious disapproval by our Sages. (Talmud - Avoda
Zara 18b; "Noda BeYehuda" 2-YD 10)
To deal casually or cavalierly with the life of an animal is
antithetical to Jewish values.…
Rubashkin violated
half of these laws. His rabbis, the OU, KAJ and Chabad
all approved. Not one rabbi from Aish HaTorah spoke out against
Rubashkin's throat-ripping and other abuses. Not one. Remember that
well.

Educational Complex Opens In Moscow
MOSCOW, RUSSIA — Monday, October 10, 2005
Some 500 community members, sponsors and local dignitaries crowded a former bus
depot in Moscow yesterday, celebrating the opening of the city’s newest site
for Jewish education. Now home to a sprawling, five-story state-of-the-art
elementary school building, the bus depot has come a long way- and this is only
the beginning, say organizers. The lot, a full city block that was given to the
Federation of Jewish Communities in the former CIS some four years ago, will be
home to several more buildings, ultimately housing most of the FJC’s large
network of Jewish educational institutions in Moscow. Upon completion of its
final phase, still several years away, the campus will include a kindergarten,
elementary school for girls and boys, high schools, a yeshiva, and extensive
office space. Named for the generous sponsorship of Mr. Yevgeny Shvidler, the
complex, known as Beit Shvidler, will represent the largest Jewish educational
site of its kind in the former Soviet Union.
With many of the school’s benefactors in attendance, including Messrs. Valery
Oif, Yefim Malkin, David Davidovich, Alexander Chirgirinsky and FJC president
Mr. Lev Leviev, Sunday’s event celebrated the opening of the elementary school
building, the first phase of the project. Some 300 children will be attending Chabad's
Or Avner Jewish Day School in the new building, says school director Rabbi
Avraham Lipsker, and most of them were on stage Sunday, delighting the crowd
with an elaborate concert in the school’s main hall.
There can be no greater proof than this building, and the ones to follow, that
the tradition of our ancestors is
alive and well in Moscow
“Our children are the foundation of the Jewish people, and a Jewish education
builds that foundation,” said Rabbi Berel Lazar, Russia’s Chief Rabbi, (Chabad
Lubavitcher) “The tremendous merit accumulated by all the generosity
that made this school building possible will ensure a happy and sweet year for
the entire community.” Lazar noted the contributions of Alexander Boroda,
executive Vice- President of the FJC, who worked tirelessly to see the
building’s construction through to its completion.
Boroda joined the school’s principal benefactors, along with Lazar and Leviev,
in cutting the ribbon to mark the school’s opening. The group placed Mezuzot
on the doors of the new buildings to the cheering of an enthusiastic audience.
“There were those in this very city who tried to destroy anything connected to
Judaism for eighty years,” said Mr. Lev Leviev in his remarks, “but there
can be no greater proof than this building, and the ones to follow, that the
tradition of our ancestors is alive and well in Moscow.”

Sanhedrin judge rules
'no diplomatic dialogue'
on petition for Joes
Hate
mail asks Sanhedrin to place ban on MbY
Shortly after this ban
demand, he received
the following note from Rabbi Moshe
Kerr on Sept. 8, 2005:
Remember
Kerr (Cur) the self Admitted Atheist
No
diplomatic dialogue can exist with non bnai brit peoples,
to date you reject the formal oath of bnai
noach there is nothing more that needs be said.
Judge Kerr
MbY
offers the following response:
When
I was a young boy and was an irritation to my four sisters living at home,
one of them used to play a game. She would wave her hand and say,
"Poof! You don't exist. And then nothing I said or did would bother
her."
Essentially the
Sanhedrin is doing this.
"Since
you (MbY) do not embrace the covenant of Noahites for Joes, 'Poof,
you don't exist! Therefore, your petition does not exist and we are
not obligated to respond to it.' "
He
said that he has petitioned Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz, the head of the revived Sanhedrin,
to determine whether Rabbi Kerr's opinion represents the position of the
entire Sanhedrin. To date, Rabbi Steinsaltz has not responded.
To the Joes
awaiting an Halachic identity out of respect for the Halachah,
which Jesus said his followers should obey, MbY says:
It
is evident that the enmity of the descendants of Judah toward the
descendants of Joseph still exists, but I did not expect to find it on the
Sanhedrin of Judah. Rabbis are entitled to their prejudices and agendas. But
not shoftim. Judges
are held to a higher standard. They are obligated to turn over every leaf to
find the Truth -- even leaves that might fall from the tree of Halachah
(Jewish Law) and be swept away by the wind.
hahahahhahaha
the dragon has given them their seat and their power and their
authority....even since their second temple of doom and abomination...see
Ezekiel 8.....Revelation 13
We
should pray for a change of heart by the leadership of the Sanhedrin. For the
time being, the Sanhedrin leadership is more inclined to
cater to the Noahites, some of whom think it is their mission in life
to persecute Joes because we may still hold to some
non-idolatrous beliefs about the Nazarene who they have categorically denied.
Several of the rabbis on the Sanhedrin have Noahite agendas, as we have
stated earlier.
This
unfortunate prejudice, which stands in the way of Halachic recognition for the
Return of the House of Joseph, has caused me to rethink
my support for the revived Sanhedrin. After some soul-searching, I
still support them and encourage Joes to support them, and lift them up in
prayer.
But we should also
pray
for Hashem (Dragon) to
give them a spiritual transformation similar to the one that validated the
first Sanhedrin as occurred during the leadership of Moshe in the wilderness.
When God took from the spirit of Moses and rested that spirit on the 72 elders
who already had been selected, they spoke in tongues or prophesied to
themselves things they did not comprehend, "V'hitnavu v'lo yasofu."
Not gonna
happen, for GOD has put it in their hearts to fulfill his Word
That experience
changed these men. A similar sign should validate and change this revived
Sanhedrin, and given time for these religious leaders to realize that they
should represent God and His agenda and not themselves or their agendas, it
will happen.
Be patient. Continue
to study and live the Torah as best you can. The Sanhedrin will eventually
come to the realization that the "Israel of God" cannot be complete
and the Sanhedrin's other plans that require this kind of unity will be
stymied without the Return of the House of Joseph, which they should invite.

In Upper Manhattan, Talmudic Scholars Look Up and Find Cardinals Among the
Rabbis
By: Daniel J. Wakin and Laurie Goodstein
New York Times
January 20, 2004
In
a study hall filled with the hubbub of Talmudic
debate, the men wearing scarlet sashes and large crosses made their way
between tables, sometimes sitting to chat with the young scholars, sometimes
marveling at the intensity of study.
A delegation of Roman Catholic cardinals from the United States and abroad
visited Yeshiva University in upper Manhattan yesterday, taking a first-hand
look at a bastion of American Jewish orthodoxy while on a two-day visit to
strengthen Jewish-Catholic ties.
That effort, officials on both sides said, has assumed some urgency as religious
leaders see the likelihood of a papal transition growing nearer. No pope has
done more than John Paul II to try to bring Christians and Jews closer, and
Jewish leaders want to make sure that the work of reconciliation continues.
"I am sure that the pope means what he says, but will there be a
trickle-down effect?" said Rabbi Israel Singer, chairman of the World
Jewish Congress, which helped convene the meeting. "This meeting is an
attempt to make sure it will trickle down throughout the world."
Leading rabbis from the United States and abroad came together with the
cardinals for speeches at the Museum of Jewish Heritage near Battery Park, and
today, the rabbis and cardinals will visit ground zero.
Several of the cardinals who attended -- Jean-Marie Lustiger of Paris, Christoph
Schonborn of Vienna and Theodore E. McCarrick of Washington -- have been
prominent in promoting interfaith relations.
At least one participant, Rabbi
Adin Steinsaltz,
(Nasi) a prominent Talmudic scholar from Israel,
suggested that such meetings do not result in concrete changes.
"They are not negotiating anything in particular," he said. "A
meeting like this doesn't signify in itself a breakthrough."
However, the opportunity for cardinals and rabbis to speak face to face is
valuable, he said. "It's part of a process in which we can talk to each
other in a friendly way," Rabbi
Steinsaltz said.
The Rev. Patrick Desbois, a French priest who works to build relations with the
Jews and helped organize the meeting, said that it was unusual because it was
held outside the Vatican, involved a large group of cardinals and included some
who had previously had little involvement in dialogue with Jews because they
come from continents, like India and Africa, where there are few Jews.
The purpose was simply to build relationships and familiarity, not to resolve
policy matters, Father Desbois said. "We are completely outside of
diplomacy."
The point was driven home during the morning trip to Yeshiva University. It was
an extraordinary scene: cardinals mingling with young Yeshiva men arguing over
laws of the Talmud (women study separately).
Menachem Hecht, 22, and David Wise, 21, discussed writings on the relationship
between corporal and capital punishment as Cardinal
Ivan Dias of Bombay looked on in wonder. "The students teach
themselves," he said. "You sharpen minds like you sharpen
knives."
Cardinal Schonborn of Vienna said Orthodox Judaism could teach Catholics how
"commitment to faith is not an impediment but an encouragement to
society."
The Catholic delegation, which included Cardinal Francis George of Chicago, was
assembled by Cardinal Lustiger, who converted from Judaism
as a youngster and speaks Yiddish. Exposing his fellow cardinals to the Yeshiva
world, he said, was a way of showing them how to be men of faith in the modern
world.
The meeting was notable also because Orthodox Jews traditionally shun dialogue
with adherents of other religions. Many Orthodox leaders cite the precedent set
by the late Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik, an eminent Orthodox scholar who taught
for decades at Yeshiva University. He taught that it was improper for Jews to
engage in dialogue on theological issues with people of other faiths.
Rabbi Norman Lamm, chancellor of Yeshiva University, said that some Orthodox
Jews may denounce his decision to play host to the Catholic leaders.
"Some would condemn me, and some would praise me, so I might as well do the
right thing," he said. "There are small minds everyplace."
He asserted that the meeting had adhered to Rabbi Soloveitchik's prohibition
because it did not involve a discussion of theology. "We kept to his
guidelines," Rabbi Lamm said.
At a lunch later in the day, Cardinal Lustiger came over
to greet Rabbi
Steinsaltz, a puckish figure who good-naturedly asked him what
Catholic religious authority gave him dispensation from obeying Jewish laws, given
that the cardinal remains a Jew in the eyes of Judaism. Cardinal Lustiger
answered, none, really, according to the rabbi, though it was not clear how
serious the discussion was.
Rabbi Henry I. Sobel, the chief rabbi of Brazil, said he would propose that
Catholic leaders serve as intermediaries between Jews and Muslims to bring the
Muslims into the dialogue. "We need to convert the dialogue into a
trialogue," he said.
Though the two-day event was not arranged by the Vatican offices in charge of
interfaith dialogue, the symposium coincided with a weekend of interfaith events
at the Vatican. On Friday, the pope met with two chief rabbis of Israel for the
first time in the Vatican, and the next day attended a concert honoring
religious reconciliation at the Holy See with Jewish, Muslim and Protestant
figures.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kohen
The Great Sanhedrin
alone had the right to appoint, or confirm the appointment of, the high
priest. His consecration might take place only in the day-time. Two high
priests must not be appointed together. Every high priest had a "mishneh"
(a second) called the Segan, or "memunneh," to stand at his right;
another assistant was the "catholicos"("Yad,"
l.c. 16-17).

More Than a Touch of Genius: Talmudic Scholar Adin Steinsaltz
By: Charles Fenyvesi
Washington Post
August 23, 1983
If
Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz lived in the United States, he would likely be on the
cover of Science or Time. His fiction might appear in The New Yorker, and op-ed
pages of metropolitan dailies would invite his views on politics and society.
"He
is a genius of the highest order," says Dan Segre, a professor of
international relations at Israel's Haifa University. "Steinsaltz has the
sort of mind that comes around only every couple of thousand years."
Steinsaltz,
who lives in Jerusalem, just spent two months as a guest at Princeton's
Institute for Advanced Studies. A book he researched there is on similarities
between the thought structures of modern physics and traditional Judaism.
Steinsaltz
is as easy to approach as a man on a park bench with a chess set but no one to
play against. "I'll discuss anything you like," he says. "To me
everything is Torah." (Interpreted narrowly, the Torah is the Bible's first
five books; interpreted broadly, the Torah is the entirety of traditional Jewish
learning.) He adds, with a boyish enthusiasm, "I am interested in
everything."
He
makes a face when asked to talk about books he has completed. That's behind him;
he is no longer interested. He has written a book on locusts and another on
biblical zoology. "The
Thirteen Petalled Rose," published in English in 1980, is acclaimed as
a classic of Jewish
mysticism. He is working on a detective thriller that takes place in
Jerusalem and on a historical novel set in the second century of the Common Era.
For
all his other activities, Steinsaltz's life work is a new edition of the 36
volumes of the Talmud
-- the proverbially complex code of Jewish life and law that reflects rulings
and musings of hundreds of rabbis over more than a thousand years. The Talmud's
range of topics is encyclopedic: from defining the conjugal duties of men in
different occupations to determining punishments for every type of murder; from
debating the reasons for the Romans' conquest of Jerusalem to interpreting
dreams.
Steinsaltz
apologizes for the unusual hour of the interview – shortly after midnight. Night
is his favorite time to write and talk – a preference he shares with
illustrious rabbis as well as oriental despots from time immemorial. But, he
explains, his choice is pragmatic rather than traditional. He has two small
children and finds it easier to work at night. He says he is grateful to
visitors because his best thoughts come when challenged to a debate.
Steinsaltz
is a frail 5-foot-6, with a scholar's stoop. When walking, his limbs have an
adolescent clumsiness. He sits at the edge of a chair, with feet drawn under the
chair, and speaks with his hands always in motion. When he smiles, his blue eyes
twinkle and his face looks youthful; at other times, he seems an ageless rabbi
with a scraggly red beard turning gray.
He
wears the casual clothing of secular Israel: light-colored slacks, open- necked
shirts and sandals. His clothes are rumpled and a size too large for him.
In
a matter of minutes, he turns an interview with a stranger in a Princeton hotel
lobby into a conversation between old friends. He listens to a question
intently, then redefines it and applies his dialectics. Steinsaltz links worlds
others see as opposites: religion and politics, mathematics and mysticism,
rabbinic law and modern Western
literature.
He is admired by Israel's far right that calls for settling the West Bank as
well as by the left that demands Peace Now. At his Jerusalem academy, he
chairs a weekly seminar on Jewish mystical texts, attended by a select group of
scientists, socialist politicians and Orthodox scholars.
"He
has a gift of shedding light on imponderable problems," says Paul Berger, a
senior partner with the
Washington
law firm Arnold and Porter, who recently spent a sabbatical year in Jerusalem
taking a class taught by Steinsaltz. "I
could sit with him for endless numbers of hours."
At
45, Steinsaltz is emerging as an Israeli blend of Teilhard de Chardin and
Buckminster Fuller, with a pinch of Jean-Paul Sartre in the bargain.
"He
is a down-to-earth visionary," says Rabbi Steve Shaw of New York's Radius
Institute, a Jewish think tank that sponsored recent American lecture tours by
Steinsaltz. "He sees connections no one else sees. But he has his feet
firmly on the ground. Although I have known him for almost 20 years, he remains
an enigma to me."
Steinsaltz
has met with Palestinian intellectuals in semisecret
sessions in France and Spain. According to Gen. Yehoshafat Harkabi,
Israel's former chief of military intelligence and an Arabist, who took part in
one of the encounters,
"the
person who most fascinated the Palestinians was Adin Steinsaltz."
Steinsaltz
comes from a family of left-wing
(Secular zion Aholibah) intellectuals with
roots in Eastern Europe. He knew his Marx and Lenin before he knew Jewish
religious thought, and he and his childhood friends used to beat up their
Orthodox contemporaries in Jerusalem alleys. He turned Orthodox (Talmudic
jew, Aholah) at age 14, much to the dismay of his antireligious parents.
Steinsaltz
now thinks of Marxism
(zionism)
as "a cheap imitation" of the Talmud's dialectic and "not at
all" the prophetic guide to history it claims to be. "There are no
prophets any more," he exclaims, his arms high in the air. "The age of
prophets is over."
Rv:19:10:
And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God:
for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
The
Bible is divine revelation and national history, read aloud at synagogue
services. The Talmud is a ceaseless debate, studied
by Jews in small groups or individually. In "The
Essential Talmud," published in Bantam paperback in 1977, Steinsaltz
wrote: "The Talmud is perhaps the only sacred book in all of world culture
that permits and even encourages the student to question it… The student must
participate intellectually and emotionally in the talmudic debate, himself
becoming, to a certain degree, a creator."
Steinsaltz
is working on a complete translation from the arcane Hebrew of the rabbis and
the complex vernacular of Aramaic into modern Hebrew, accompanied by his own
explanation of every passage. It is a task no one has undertaken in 900 years.
The last complete commentary on the Talmud was by Rashi, the greatest Jewish
scholar of all time, a vintner who lived in France at the time of William the
Conqueror and whose explanations are models of lucidity.
Thus
far Steinsaltz has published six volumes of his
Talmud. He has been involved in the work for 20 years; completion might take
him another 20.
"The
scope of Steinsaltz's work can only be compared to Rashi's," says Michael
Berenbaum, director of the Washington Jewish Community Council and professor of
religion at George Washington University. "But Steinsaltz is not just
playing the scholar's game. He helps people understand the Talmud; he has
revolutionized the way the Talmud is studied. His commentaries will live for
centuries."
In
all his various endeavors,
To
illustrate the dilemma of the Lebanon war, he uses a parable from his own life.
For
many years he was ill with an enlarged spleen. Doctors in his native city of
Jerusalem kept postponing surgery. They warned that risking an incision would be
like playing Russian roulette. They did not want to be held responsible. One
doctor got ill the day the surgery was to be performed; on another occasion,
another doctor postponed the operation at the last minute because he thought
that Steinsaltz's overall health was not strong enough.
The
more doctors Steinsaltz consulted, the less clear his choices became. Even if we
remove the growth, the problem would return, said doctors who didn't really want
to get involved. The illness is inherited, they pointed out, one of those
genetic deficiencies that plague the Jewish people.
Specialists
in Washington went as far as suggesting that the problem would go away;
time might just be the best cure.
But,
it seemed to Steinsaltz, the one clear-headed assessment was from a doctor who
insisted that as time went on and the spleen continued to grow, surgery would
become more and more risky. And nothing would be as dangerous as an inflammation
requiring surgery in a hurry.
So
cut, the rabbi finally said, let's not waste another day.
The
surgery took place three years ago, and the patient is now "in good health,
thank God. Never felt better."
Steinsaltz
sees a parallel between his enlarged spleen and Palestinian terrorism: The
invasion of Lebanon was "inevitable" and "a necessity."
Given the Palestinians' "arms, training and motivation," eventually
they would have had to attack, and thus Israel had to go to war sooner or later,
and sooner was better than later. "There was no possibility of a
compromise," he says, echoing the government's hawkish analysis.
"Sometimes
you can bribe or threaten and get a better or a worse agreement. But this
situation with the PLO had to explode."
On
the other hand, he withholds judgment on whether the incursion into Lebanon is
"a just war." He is waiting to see how effective the war will be in
channeling Palestinian nationalism toward a peaceful denouement, which
Steinsaltz defines in dovish terms: an evolution toward statehood, similar to
the Jewish community's progress toward independence under the British Mandate.
To
his way of thinking, a war is justified only if it "straightens out things
and solves a problem and not when it satisfies an emotion, such as vengeance or
anger." If a war doesn't solve a problem, he says, and his arms come down
hard on the armrests of his chair, "it is never justified."
Asked
if he is troubled by the civilian casualties in Lebanon, Steinsaltz questions
the validity of distinguishing between civilian and military deaths and says he
is equally troubled by both. "The question is how much of it is
avoidable," he reframes the question. "If a person holds a gun -- is
he a different human being?"
He
tells a story of one of his best friends who was a peace activist after the 1967
war, working with Arabs and arguing with Jews. The friend was killed in the 1973
war after he was surrounded by Egyptians and refused to surrender. "He
fought to his last bullet," Steinsaltz says.
"He
was conscientious to the nth degree, anxious for moral and religious
reasons." To Steinsaltz, the story suggests the complexity of individual
reactions to war and proves "soldiers killed are still people."
"Even
a justified war is never a nice thing," he says, but, ideally, a war should
be "fast, well done, clear, with little anger" and close to the event
that provoked it. The Six-Day War of 1967 was such a war--"a clear case of
self- defense"--as were the 1948 War of Independence and the 1973 Yom
Kippur War.
Today,
as in the Sinai campaign of 1956, the situation is more complex, "with no
direct military threat" hanging over Israel, only a prolonged period of
terrorist harassment. But today's war is "clearer" than the 1956 war,
he adds, because in 1956 France and Britain also were involved, and Israel did
not have the ability to resist American pressure.
He
finds the American image of war is combat as "stylized" as the one
between medieval knights, with everyone else being innocent bystanders.
"But
modern war is different, even if it is done by angels who kill only the right
persons," Steinsaltz says. "The totality of war is a fact of life.
That's part of the complexity of modern war.
There
are no civilians any more."
Steinsaltz
has a high opinion of the effectiveness of violence to change history for the
better. "A war is not something to be admired or loved," he says.
"But it can change the direction of events. And once it happens I accept it
as I accept the death of my dearest friends."
For
a man of the spirit,
Steinsaltz
is fascinated with violence.
Turning
the other cheek is not morally superior, he says. To
the contrary, turning the other cheek is morally wrong.
Jn:8:44:
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
The
main idea of justice is if an act is wrong, "it is wrong whether it is done
to me or to others. We believe that it is wrong for me to hit someone else and
it is wrong for him to hit me too. It
is not morally superior to be forgiving and forgetting, and it's not even
convenient," he giggles, enjoying his own phrase.
He
criticizes both the peace movement and Gush Emunim – a quasi-religious
movement sworn to annex the West Bank of Jordan. He says peace activists
"have no positive program"; the Gush Emunim is pursuing "an
anachronistic Zionism" that belongs in the 1920s when pioneers were
establishing kibbutzim (collective farms). The two movements have strength
because in his heart each Israeli belongs to both, he says.
Even
if an Israeli fights one of the movements, he can't help being in secret
sympathy with it, because "the two movements are external images of how
people really feel."
Years
ago he was quoted as ready to even return to the Arabs portions of Jerusalem in
exchange for real peace. Leaders of the peace movement feel close to him and
seek his advice. He says he tells them that "to make it big in Israel they
have to transcend the definition of peace as a negative term of no-war."
Unfortunately, he says, peace activists "have a
problem of having an enormous hatred for everybody who is not as peace loving as
they are."
Steinsaltz's
smile is impish; his criticism is without anger.
He
is also close personal friends with ultranationalist Geula Cohen, who denounced
Prime Minister Menachem Begin, her mentor of many years, because of the peace
treaty with Egypt.
He
volunteers the information that he was wrong on Begin. He could not imagine that
Begin would ever become prime minister because of one thing: "He is too
much of a gentleman." By that Steinsaltz means that alone among Israel's
politicians, Begin has Central European manners, complete with hand kissing (Steinsaltz
rolls his eyes), that dark suit and tie (Steinsaltz's lips curl in contempt) and
a self-imposed ideal of
nobility
(Steinsaltz's eyebrows make clear how bizarre it is to have such
a Christian, made-in-Warsaw concept in today's Israel).
But
Steinsaltz defends Begin: "He is a softhearted person. He has real horror
of bloodshed." Reminded that no Begin speech is complete without a
reference to blood, Steinsaltz replies that whenever Begin speaks of blood it is
always Jewish blood, the blood of martyrs, never -- never -- the blood of the
enemy that had been spilled or ought to be spilled.
With
Begin, blood is a matter of "sentimentality" and "rhetoric";
part of his skillful adaptation of mannerisms from the Bible and from Eastern
Europe. "A bloodthirsty person would call for the enemy's blood,"
Steinsaltz closes his argument.
"Begin's
biggest fault is that he has no vision," Steinsaltz says. "He and
Sadat may be considered equally good politicians. But Sadat had a vision."
By that Steinsaltz means Sadat knew what he wanted to accomplish in the long run
whether or not he could reach that point.
Steinsaltz
believes in angels. His most personal book, "The
Thirteen Petalled Rose," draws distinctions between different orders of
angels -- beings that "constitute a permanent contact between our world of
action and the higher worlds." While man is full of contradictions and has
the capacity to rise and to backslide, angels are "eternally the
same."
In
Jerusalem, Steinsaltz heads a talmudic academy. He writes articles for
newspapers and appears on radio and TV panels discussing politics, morality,
social issues, art -- anything. Once in awhile he writes a science-fiction
story.
"I
do all these things because I am basically lazy," he says, laughing, and
apologizes for the time. It is 5 a.m. "I fool myself. I create an illusion
that I don't work because I am always doing something else, not what I should be
doing."

Leading Kabbalist Urges Jews to Israel - More
Disasters Coming

On Thursday night, Rabbi Yitzhak Kaduri said,
"Jews must come to the land of Israel to receive our righteous
Mashiach (Messiah), who has begun his influence and
will reveal himself in the future."
|
It was during the meal after the 24-hour Yom Kippur fast that several
followers approached the 104-year-old leading known Kabbalist
Sorcerer and Blasphemer
Rabbi in Israel. A family member asked him about his
remarks last month regarding natural disasters in the world. The Rabbi said
that the disasters are directly related to the redemption process, which will
culminate in the coming of the Mashiach.
The Rabbi added that in the near future, another wave of natural disasters will
strike the world.

Rabbi Kaduri [center] and Rabbi
Mordechai Eliyahu [in garment on right] at cornerstone laying ceremony
for Nachalat Yitzhak Yeshiva |
Last week before Yom Kippur, Rabbi Yitzhak Kaduri's grandson, Rabbi Yosef Kaduri
had a private audience with the elder Rabbi, along with an Arutz-7 journalist
who is closely linked to Kaduri's court. Rabbi Yosef Kaduri said to his
grandfather, "Not many Jews are coming from overseas. Why should they
come?" The Kabbalist answered, "Because of impending danger."
Rabbi Yitzhak Kaduri then added a quote from Deuteronomy 4:15: "Be
extremely protective of your lives."
According to Rabbi Yosef Kaduri and the Arutz-7 journalist, the Kabbalist elder
referred to a known esoteric concept of a "struggle
between the oceans," and said that the large oceans [Haokeanus
hagadol] would strike the world.
Out of the Hurricanes came the "Invasion" of
Noahide enforcement.........of OG and Dagon the Noahide Fish nongod of the
Sanhedrin's Catholicos Fish head Mitre

Rabbi Yosef Kaduri said that grandfather's warning includes were Jews of the
Americas.
The elder Rabbi Kaduri told the two that on Yom Kippur he would have more things
to say.
During the afternoon Mincha prayer on Yom Kippur, the Kabbalist scholar
surprised his students and fellow worshippers with secrets relating to the
coming of the Mashiach. During the service, Rabbi Kaduri lowered his head and
entered a deep mystical concentration which lasted
uninterrupted for some 45 minutes. The Rabbi covered his eyes as though reciting
the Sh'ma prayer and only his lips were seen moving.

Students who thought the elderly Rabbi was suffering an attack of sort tried to
communicate with him, but he did not break his intense concentration for a
moment, even to nod.
Only after some 45 minutes, the Rabbi raised his head and looked around the room
at the students and worshippers who were gathered at his Nachalat Yitzhak
Yeshiva, in the Bucharim neighborhood of Jerusalem. With a broad smile on his
face familiar to his students when he has a revelation, he declared, "With
the help of G-d, the soul of the Mashiach has attached itself to a person in
Israel" [In the original Hebrew: 'Hit'abra bezrat hashem nishmat
mashiach b'adam m'yisrael'].
At the conclusion of his short declaration, murmuring was heard among the
congregants as the Kabbalists' words were repeated for those who could not hear.
Rabbi Kaduri has spoken repeatedly about the Final Redemption and referred to
the calculations of the Vilna
Gaon regarding the redemption, which appear in the Gaon's writings and are
considered difficult to decipher.

The Vilna Gaon (1720 - 1797) |
 |
According to the writings of the Vilna Gaon, a sign of the Gog and Magog war is
its breaking out on the Jewish holiday of Hoshana Rabba (the 7th day of the
Sukkot holiday), just after the conclusion of the 7th or shemittah
[agricultural sabbatical] year.
On September 24, 2001, Channel One Israel TV broadcast an item on what Torah and
other mystics were saying in the wake of the World Trade Center attack. Speaking
from the room adjacent to where Rabbi Yitzhak Kaduri receives visitors, Arutz
Sheva Hebrew radio showhost Yehoshua Meiri, a close confident of the Kabbalist,
explained to the cameras Rabbi Kaduri's understanding of the events based on the
calculations of the Vilna Gaon: "On Hashanah Rabba, the actual war of Gog
and Magog will commence and will last for some seven years," said Meiri. [
Click here to view the Channel One clip in Hebrew and Rabbi Kaduri's
prediction communicated by Meiri at the 1:40 minute mark.]
Precise to the minute, 13 days later on October 7th as the sun was setting and
the Jewish holiday of Hoshana Rabba was ushered in, US
and British forces began an aerial bombing campaign targeting Taliban forces
and Al-Qaida. That year was the Hoshana Rabba just after the shemitta year of
5761.
According to the calculation, a 7-year count from that
Hoshana Rabba is the date of a major revelation associated with Mashiach. Those
close to Rabbi Kaduri say in his name that the 5th year of
this redemption process is now beginning.
2007?
They explain that the above-mentioned "attaching"
of a righteous soul to a person of Israel makes the recipient a candidate for
Mashiach, but not yet the actual Mashiach.
This person gets an additional soul
which finds expression in the adding of a letter to his name, without changing
its pronunciation. The elder Rabbi Kaduri says that the letter added to this
person's name is "vav" and the secret
of his power is a Star of David hidden in his attire.
Before he reached the age of 13, the young Yitzhak Kaduri studied with the
renowned Rabbi Yosef Chaim (the Ben Ish Chai) of Iraq. Rabbi Kaduri tells that
the Ben Ish Chai blessed him that he would live to see the revelation of the
Mashiach. The Ben Ish Chai passed away, and Rabbi Yitzhak Kaduri immigrated to
Israel soon after.

Like a Ripe Brie, Paris's Kosher Scene Comes of Age
By GABRIELLE BIRKNER
Like a bottle of fine Bordeaux or a ripe brie, Paris's kosher scene has come
of age. When Polish Holocaust survivors Joseph and Helene Korcarz opened their
eponymous bakery in 1948, it was one of only a handful of kosher eateries, which
were relegated primarily to the narrow streets of Le Marais, the city's historic
Jewish quarter. Today, kosher palates can hardly keep up with new restaurants,
as befits a modern-day capital. The City of Light
and its 20 arrondissements are now home to more than 200 kosher
restaurants, cafes and bakeries.
"There's a real market for kosher food that wasn't there when my
grandparents opened Korcarz," said Michael Korcarz, Joseph and Helene's
29-year-old grandson, whose fourth kosher sushi restaurant opened last month in
the 11th arrondissement near the Place de la Republique.
In the past decade alone, the number of kosher restaurants serving Paris's
300,000 Jews has doubled, according to the Beth Din of
Paris, which oversees more than 75 percent
of the country's kosher eateries.
"I think more and more young people find it normal to say, 'I eat
kosher,' which wasn't the case 15 years ago," said L. David Cohen, a
research scientist who maintains a list of the country's kosher restaurants on
his Web site "Cashere a Paris, Kosher in France" (kosher.online.fr).
According to Cohen, the site he launched in 1996 now attracts about 1,000
visitors per week.
The multiplying number of kosher restaurants in Paris is an encouraging sign
for French Jews, who have been the target of more than a thousand
antisemitic attacks since the beginning of the second intifada.
France is home to about 6 million Muslims, and many of the attacks have been
linked to hostile Muslim youth. After a Jewish school was firebombed in November
in the Paris suburb of Gagny, French President Jacques Chirac
called an emergency cabinet meeting to address the country's spiraling
antisemitism. The French president has since pledged to implement
educational initiatives to promote tolerance, increase security at
Jewish institutions, and track antisemitic incidents in the coming months.
"I know Jews who are buying apartments or houses in Israel in case they
have to leave France," Cohen said.
after all anti-Shematism is necessary for the
management of the "Lesser Brethren" and make them come to Pharaoh
Moshiach
"It's interesting that at the same time [as] some Jews are talking
about leaving the country, others are investing in kosher restaurants."
Cohen attributes the growing demand for kosher cuisine in Paris in part to
the outreach efforts of Chabad-Lubavitch.
The organization, which encourages the practice of traditional Judaism, runs 30
centers in the area — and 60 throughout France.
Rabbi Mendel Asimov, who heads a Chabad
center in northwest Paris — where a spate of kosher restaurants have opened in
recent years — agreed that the organization's outreach work has helped
perpetuate the trend. "When you open a store, you need people to be
interested in the products you sell," Asimov said. "Chabad
made people want to eat kosher."
Still others attribute the rise in the number of kosher restaurants to the
culinary predilections of the descendants of Sephardic immigrants who came from
Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia during the 1960s. "While the first generation
in France made their own pastries and challah, their children want to buy it or
go to restaurants," Michael Korcarz said. "They lead very different
lives than their parents."
Herve Kabla, an Orthodox Parisian whose parents emigrated from Tunisia in
1965, agreed. "It wasn't until the children became involved in French life
that there was a push to adapt the pleasure of the French city for a Jewish
audience," said Kabla, who frequents Paris's kosher restaurants.
A few years ago, most of the kosher restaurants were informal, family-style
joints, but hungry Jews and their friends now have many options in terms of
ambiance, cuisine and price ranges. One can grab a slice at Pizza Hai, not far
from Montmartre; sit down for Indian food at Tandoori Palace in the densely
populated 19th arrondissement; talk business over pasta at Il Conte, located
just off the Champs ...lysées, or order traditional French fare at La Brasserie
du Belvédère in the chic 17th arrondissement. Today, the Marais — still home
to Korcarz bakery — boasts a lively mix of trendy boutiques, gay bars, Judaica
stores and some of the most high profile kosher restaurants like the Jo
Goldenberg delicatessen and L'As du Fallafel.
"Ten years ago, there wasn't much of a choice if you had a meeting with
your boss or you were receiving an important guest," Cohen said.
"Today with so many types of places — and with every week a new
restaurant opening — there is no excuse for not going kosher."
The demand for kosher food has also boosted the market for kosher products in
grocery stores. Slowly more French foods, like Beaujolais wine and a Nutella-like
chocolate spread, have earned a hecksher seal of kosher certification
from the Beth Din of Paris. Menachem Lubinsky, the editor of "Kosher
Today," a trade publication for the international kosher food industry,
said increased availability of kosher products in mainstream supermarkets can be
attributed to "increased awareness of kosher globally, and to a greater
emphasis on savvy marketers who do not want to miss out on a key market."
"Many supermarkets in Paris have opened kosher sections to meet the
demand," Michael Korcarz said, noting that his parents, who now run five
Korcarz bakeries, provide kosher bread to 260 markets and retailers in France.

Reminding President Katzav
A kiddush Hashem took place at the official reception for Israeli President
Moshe Katzav
At the Champs Elysee Palace with French President Jacque Chirac.
Katzav’s visit thrilled French Jewry, and crowds attended the reception
ceremony and the special prayer at the central synagogue.
Many distinguished people were invited to the meal and reception, including
shliach Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Pevsner. President Chirac
introduced Rabbi Pevsner to President
Katzav and told him about the tremendous work that Chabad
does for all segments of the community in France with their beautiful network of
schools. President Chirac also prided
himself on his personal friendship with his father, Rabbi Hillel Pevsner.
Rabbi Pevsner reminded President Katzav about the sicha he heard
from the Rebbe on 10 Shevat, about the necessity of protecting the
shleimus of Eretz Yisroel, and standing strong against giving any part of it
away. This sicha took place as the Rebbe held Katzav’s hand.
In response to Rabbi Pevsner, President Katzav said, “Indeed, it was a
historic moment.”
Rabbi Pevsner: “It’s not only about history, but is quite relevant, now more
than ever.”
Rabbi Pevsner quoted points from the sicha and read the first paragraph together
with him. President Katzav took the paper and promised to study it.
At the conclusion of their conversation, President Chirac
turned to Rabbi Pevsner and asked him, “Can you bless us together for the
furtherance of our ties for the good of both countries and both nations?”
Rabbi Pevsner placed his hands on both their heads and recited the priestly
blessing, and translated it. He added that by helping the Jewish people, France
would also be blessed.

IDF choppers in
service of drug cartel
American
officials demand Israel provide explanations for how U.S.-made choppers sold to
Israel ended up in service of Columbian drug cartel. Incident may cloud

Another diplomatic incident threatens to taint
U.S.-Israeli relations: The American government has recently demanded
Israel clarify how five U.S.-made helicopters
sold to Israel in the mid-70s found their way into the hands of a Columbian drug
cartel.
An U.S. embassy
official met with an Israeli foreign ministry official in Jerusalem several days
ago, where he informed him that the American Foreign Ministry has requested the
embassy to launch an investigation into the matter.
According to
American sources, the military copters currently serve the drug mafia in the
South American country.
Top diplomatic
sources fear that this incident will once again heat-up tensions between Israel
and the U.S. and cloud the strategic dialogue between the two countries, which
is scheduled to renew in November, after talks were suspended for more than a
year-and-a-half.
Kosher deal went
sour
The dubious
affair, which was already investigated by the Israeli Defense Ministry, and
later turned over to the hands of the police, was uncovered about two years ago.
Investigators
revealed that the Defense Ministry signed a deal with an Israeli company three
years ago, contracting it to negotiate the sale of five IAF helicopters for a
sum of USD 100,000 per aircraft.
The ministry
permitted the choppers, of a MD 500 Defender model, be sold either to the
Mexican federal police, or to the Spain firefighters department. However,
contrary to the terms of the license, the copters ended up in Columbia, by way
of Canadian mediators.
A Defense Ministry
spokeswoman said in response that "after suspicions were raised that an
illicit exchange took place, the ministry launched an initial investigation into
the matter last year."
"According to
instructions of the chief prosecutor, the case was handed over to the police in
2004," she added.
Sources at the
Defense Ministry refused to comment on the matter.

PARK BACKER: Christian
evangelist Pat Robertson during a 2004 visit to Israel.

A theme park for the Holy Land?
American Evangelicals and Israeli officials plan to
unveil this month a $60 million park where Jesus walked.
JERUSALEM – Officials in
Israel say that out of about 2 million people who will realize their dream of
visiting the Holy Land this year, more than half will be Christian. And among
those, more than half will be Evangelical.
Noahide proselytes made two fold
the children of hell as the Hassidic Pharisees
With that in mind, the Israeli ministry of tourism has gone public with a
plan to build - in partnership primarily with American Evangelical churches - a
sprawling Holy Land Christian Center on the northern shores of the Sea of
Galilee, home to some of the most notable chapters in Jesus' ministry. The
center, to be built on approximately 125 acres that the Israeli government is
offering free of cost, would be a Christian theme park and visitors' center, one
that would be particularly attractive to Evangelicals and other Christians who
want to spend more time in the places where Jesus walked.
Heb:12:22: But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,
Highlights may include a Holy Bible Garden,
Garden of Babble
full of plants and trees mentioned in the New Testament, and equipped with
quiet sites for reflection and prayer. A Sea of Galilee Amphitheater will
overlook the mouth of the Jordan River and hold 1,500-2,000 worshippers. And the
park will have a Christian Experience Auditorium and a Multimedia Center.
A Rapture departure Pad
The center would also feature an online broadcast center, which would
give religious leaders an opportunity to address their followers back home,
live, near the tranquil blue waters of the Sea of Galilee (which today is
considered a lake).
"It will focus on the real places where Jesus walked," says Ido
Hartuv, a spokesman for the tourism ministry. "It's a place where pilgrims
can touch the experience - they can touch the Bible."
Israeli officials say they are in advanced discussions with several prominent
churches that will serve as investors and builders of the $60 million center.
Tourism Minister Abraham Hirschson told the Haaretz newspaper that he hoped the
first of several agreements would be signed this month, and that one of the key
figures at the heart of the project would be Pat Robertson, the prominent
televangelist and founder of The 700 Club.
of 770
"It thrills me to think that there will be a place in the Galilee where
Evangelical Christians from all over the world can come to celebrate the actual
place where Jesus Christ lived and taught. It will be our pleasure to fully
cooperate with this initiative of the Israeli Government," says Mr.
Robertson.
The plans to build the center - and to turn a large swath of the pastoral
waterside territory, from Magdala to Bethsaida, into a Galilee World Heritage
Park, complete with hiking trails along paths Jesus would have walked - come at
a time of seesawing in relations between Israel and various US churches.

Several mainline Protestant churches are considering pulling their money out
of the stocks of companies that sell military equipment to Israel in a protest
against Israel's dealing with the Palestinian intifada. Churches considering an
economic boycott point to the building of the West Bank barrier as well as an
expansion of Israeli settlements over the Green Line, Israel's pre-1967
boundaries.
But surely this will cover the cost of the bloodlust
In August, the Presbyterian Church passed a resolution to explore divestment,
but no final decision will be taken before the church's next convention in the
summer of 2006.
Ever since Benjamin Netanyahu (Hassidic Pharisee)
- Israel's prime minister from 1996 to 1999 - cultivated
ties with US Evangelicals and other Christians during his tenure,
Israeli governments have sought to strengthen relations with the sector of the
Christian world which, for religious reasons, tends to take a pro-Israeli view
of the Arab-Jewish conflict. On Mr. Robertson's website, he says that God gave
this land "to the descendants of Israel," not to "so-called
Palestinians."
That spiritual Sodom and Egypt where our Lord was
crucified, in that great city (Paraphrase)
Which made their Covenant with death and Hell, and
deny the Christ Jesus
Older churches, such as Orthodox and Catholic denominations, have more local
Palestinian followers and tend to support that side of the conflict.
But Uri Dagul, the head of the Israel Youth Hostels Association and the
creative force behind the project, says it is more focused on tourism than
politics. The idea, he says, reflects an improvement in Jewish-Christian
relations, underscored by the visit of Pope John Paul II here in 2000. Mr. Dagul
says the project should be a nondenominational Christian center, not an
explicitly Evangelical one.
Some of the existing churches and monasteries the shores of the Sea of
Galilee - such as in Tabgha and Capernaum, where Jesus lived for a time, were
built as recently as the early 1900s by prominent churches in the Holy Land: the
Greek Orthodox and Roman Catholics, represented by the Franciscans. But the area
has not, more recently, been developed for visitors, says Dagul, and so the
busloads of tourists who come to the coast north of Tiberius find it difficult
to secure a place to pray and reflect, much less find a rest-stop equipped to
accept hundreds of pilgrims.
"Jerusalem comes only later in the story, but most of Jesus' history is
in the northern part of the Sea of Galilee," says Dagul. "We can give
people the opportunity to experience it, to pray here, to broadcast to their
home congregations, to walk on Jesus' trails. People go to churches all over the
world, but this is the place where it happened."
A spokesman at the International Christian Embassy in Jerusalem (ICEJ), which
represents Christian Zionists (Judeo-Churchinsanity)
from around the world, views the center as an important step towards developing
sites for Evangelicals, whom he says make up the fastest-growing segment of
Christians.
who say their god is the god of the Talmudic jews
who say their god has no only Begotten Son the Savior and state in their
perverted tradition of Talmud Bavli that Jesus is in hell boiling in human
excrement, they say he is Christ, but do not believe in their hearts.
"The Protestant world in general got a late start on the Bible-sites
business. While the Greek Orthodox - as the successor to the Byzantine empire -
and the Roman Catholics have been involved in identifying Christian sites and
maintaining them for pilgrims for centuries," says David Parsons of the
ICEJ. "It's very astute of the Israeli government to do this, with all the
support of the Evangelical world out there," he adds. "We have a stake
in the tourism industry here, and this gives us a place to call our own."
And they surely refuse to enter Sion, for they
refuse to stand FIRM and witness for the ONLY Living God, and think to be
evacuated at any moment
Whether the development will resemble a study center more than a theme park
is unclear. The developers say they plan to check kitsch and commercialism at
the door. "No way will it be a Disneyland. We have to keep the spirit of
the place," Dagul says. "You can see the movie about Jesus' life, then
see the mountain," he says, referring to the Mount of Beatitudes, where
Jesus gave his Sermon on the Mount, containing some of his essential teachings.
"But if we lose this spirit, with too many lights and projectors, it will
be a catastrophe."
How about a Holygram 3 d projection of Him coming in
the clouds with great Glory and do a fast switch and introduce Haha Moshiach in
his stead? Surely they will fall for anything
And bowing to protests from Orthodox Jewish
groups, the Christian partners will have to agree not to go out and proselytize
to local Jewish Israelis.
But of course
