The latter writes: "This is a great test that the Redeemer is concealed [Moshe] . . . and so it will be at the time of our righteous Moshiach [that] he will be concealed after [his] revelation, as mentioned in the Midrash."

From the Zohar (Shmos 8b)--as explained in Zohar Harakiya and Shaar Hagilgulim (ch. 13, both by the ARI-Zal, Rabbi Yitzchak Luria, one of the greatest Kabbalists)--it is clear that the man designated to be Moshiach is born naturally in this world, then the soul of Moshiach in the heavenly "Garden of Eden" is bestowed upon him so that he realizes that he is Moshiach, then he becomes concealed, ascending to heaven, and only afterwards is he revealed to the full extent, the whole Jewish people recognizing him as Moshiach.

We see here three stages in the revelation of Moshiach: a) revelation, b) concealment, c) final full revelation.

Will the British, up to their elbows in the blood of more than 50 victims of Islamic terrorism, ( these Hassidic Vipers of Hell blame ISLAM of course) finally understand the predicament that has been confronting Israel, asked an Israeli friend in an e-mail immediately after last Thursday's multiple bomb attacks in central London.

indeed, a major part of the problem – rather than a part of the solution. It is Israel's intransigence over the Palestinian issue, so the distorted logic goes, that has inflamed the Arab world, radicalized all the Muslims and permitted the hate-filled Islamic extremists to take center-stage, coopt moderate young Muslims and induce them to vent their outrage in Western capitals.

Blair's mantra would have a comical quality by now if it did not also have the effect of legitimizing those who seek justification for the monstrous acts. He might intend to encourage moderation among Muslims by sharing their pain and understanding their supposed grievances, but the effect is to acknowledge there is some justification for the terror and to offer support for those who will recruit the next wave of fanatics.

Such an appeasing response, which implies a criticism of Israel, helps to explain why it is perceived so strongly as part of the problem. But there is another, far more serious, reason.
For many years, and despite their reservations, the British regarded Israel as a plucky little nation surviving in the face of overwhelming odds; a democracy in a sea of tyranny; a social laboratory of collective and cooperative living;

a heroic nation that prosecuted its wars with brilliance and daring, courage and valor;(War by deception, Mossad motto) a cultural nation that produced one of the world's finest orchestras and some of its finest musicians. The Yesha Council has announced a three-day march towards Gush Katif beginning this coming Monday, and Land of Israel supporters are invited to take part as well.

The organizers of the protest are hoping that tens of thousands of people will take to the streets leading towards Gush Katif, travel as far as they are allowed before being stopped by army or police checkpoints, and then simply "camp out" where they are. The objective is to block up the roads, thus rendering impossible the implementation of the actual disengagement.

"Now is the time for world Jewry to come - on an open-ended ticket," Vanunu says. "Just as thousands of anarchists and left-wingers have arrived in Israel over the past few years to fight against the security fence and in favor of Palestinians, now is the time for loyal Jews to come to Israel and join the struggle. This is the charge of the hour!"

The Katif Fund is also involved in more "mundane" activities, such as preparing a day of vacation for all of Gush Katif. "We did it four years ago, and it was something that people here have not yet forgotten," Vanunu said. "We are in contact with some of the big amusement-water parks, and we hope to be able to bring thousands of people of Gush Katif - who are undergoing tremendous pressures regarding their future - for a day of enjoyment. It is a tremendous venture, involving buses, food, and more, and should cost about 300,000 shekels."

Vanunu noted that the Jewish Agency recently raised two million dollars for fun-days for the children of Sderot and nearby communities, "but for our children, at whom 5,700 rockets and shells have been fired since the Oslo War began - many times more than those that have fallen on Sderot and the Negev - no such campaign was made."

Aid has come in from the Education Ministry, Vanunu said, to subsidize day camps for the children of Gush Katif.

Civil Disobedience Movement Announces D-Day Target

“Uprooting the camp of the uprooters” is the name of the plan. Organizers say it will give planned marches to Gush Katif upon its closure a clear and effective goal that will be carried out without violence or any acts of vandalism.

“The upcoming march does not have a clear aim," a message on the Bayit Leumi web site claims. "To block the roads or not? To break through the Kissufim Crossing to reach the communities or not? And what next? It is unacceptable that the resource of the public’s energy be wasted for nothing.”

The military camp to be targeted is located on the way to the Kissufim crossing, about a half-mile south of the Gema junction in the direction of Be'er Sheva. The Gema camp was erected to house thousands of soldiers who are to take part in the implementation of the Disengagement Plan. There are only a few dozen soldiers stationed there now. Some of them harbor strong feelings against the Disengagement, as was seen in a Channel 1 TV report depicting the soldiers as letting anti-expulsion activists into the camp and decrying the immoral nature of the Disengagement.

“When thousands of marchers arrive at the base and each one takes one tent-pole and moves it a few hundred yards from the camp, it will paralyze the organizational ability of the expulsion forces for a long while,” reads a Bayit Leumi announcement. “This action has many advantages. First, it is an action that falls within the boundaries of non-violent civil disobedience. It uses no violence whatsoever and is aimed directly at the representatives of the regime who are poised to perpetrate this crime.”

According to the mass civil disobedience organization behind the roadblocking campaigns, the reasoning behind the new operation is to present the image of the destruction of a residential place, for one night, using a military facility built solely to carry out the expulsion of thousands of men, women and children from their homes and land. “The act will sharply demonstrate, before the eyes of the soldiers themselves and the general public, the immorality of the act of expulsion of thousands of Jews from their permanent homes,” the group said.

“It is extremely important that the move be carried out by the masses in a non-violent manner and without being corrupted by vandalism,” a Bayit Leumi spokesperson told Arutz-7. The spokesperson stressed that the action is not tied specifically to the planned Yesha Council march on July 18th, but is something that should take place on D-day - the day when Gaza or northern Samaria are declared closed military zones.

"To the People of Israel, to every Jew wherever he may be.

I write this letter with great inner turmoil, at the end of another day in Gush Katif.

In the past year and a half, we inhabitants of Gush Katif have waged a struggle, the likes of which have never been seen in our circles. It was a pure and unblemished struggle: we screamed Faith with all our strength, we cried out Love until our throats were sore. We knocked on the doors of thousands of homes, and we embraced thousands of Jews. We felt that we were greatly privileged, we sensed that we had fallen upon a period of history that would yet be talked about for many years to come. We had a sense that we were leading the Nation of Israel in a new direction. We believed that from amidst all this impurity, something holy and pure wold result. We truly felt the pangs of the Messiah’s (Moshiach ben Dragon) arrival!

But the powers of impurity continued in their work – and despite the fact that we did not betray the trust that had been placed in us, and did not for a minute get sucked into selling our faith and our beloved Land for money, the days wore on, and time is catching up with us, and we can already feel the heavy breathing of the Satan’s emissaries down our necks.

Do you know, dear brothers, that the expulsion has already begun? Do you know that the media refuse to broadcast pictures and information that could cause the cancellation of the expulsion? Do you know that policemen are beating Gush Katif Jews who are bound with handcuffs? Did you know that even girls have been and are being cruelly beaten by policemen? The United States is considering a proposal to assist Israel in pulling out of the Gaza Strip and developing the Negev and Galilee.

Two senior Israeli officials presented the first detailed proposal on funding the pullout to senior Bush administration officials Tuesday. Israeli reports said Israel has pegged the price at $2.2 billion, but Israeli and American officials would not confirm the amount. In any case, the amount would come on top of the $2.5 billion Israeli already receives in U.S. assistance.

“Yesterday’s meeting was very useful in giving us a better understanding of what the Israeli plans are for the development of the Negev and Galilee, and we will be considering how the United States can best assist Israel with these efforts,” said a spokesman for President Bush’s National Security Council.

Israeli forces taking part in the upcoming Gaza withdrawal will be allowed to shoot settlers if they present a deadly threat.

Under a code of conduct drawn up this week by Israeli security strategists, soldiers and police taking part in next month’s pullout from the Gaza Strip and northern West Bank will be under orders to try all non-lethal means to quell settler resistence, but reserve the right to open fire if they feel their own lives are at risk.

Settler leaders have vowed to mount nonviolent resistence only, but authorities fear some activists could fire at security forces to forestall evacuation.

Activists opposed to the Gaza withdrawal are suspected of planting a fake bomb in Jerusalem’s central bus station.

The station was evacuated Monday night after the gas canister was found, and before police realized the bomb was fake. Since the beginning of March, opponents of withdrawal have placed six dummy bombs in bus stations in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, the Jerusalem Post reported.

Terrorist gang 'used military explosives'

A SINGLE bombmaker using high-grade military explosives is believed to be responsible for building the four devices that killed more than 50 people last week, The Times can reveal.

Similar components from the explosive devices have been found at all four murder sites, leading detectives to believe that each of the 10lb rucksack bombs was the work of one man. They also believe that the materials used were not home made but sophisticated military explosives, possibly smuggled into Britain from the Balkans.

“The nature of the explosives appears to be military, which is very worrying,” said Superintendent Christophe Chaboud, the chief of the French anti-terrorist police, who was in London to help Scotland Yard.

News of the breakthrough comes as a Times poll conducted in the aftermath of the bombings indicates that an overwhelming majority of the British public favours a tough approach to terrorist suspects. Almost 90 per cent of people want the police to be given new powers to arrest people suspected of planning terrorist acts, tighter immigration controls and strict baggage inspections.

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s unilateral disengagement plan runs counter to the Torah (Talmud Bavli) in a number of respects. Let us outline them in short:

The commandment to settle the land of Israel requires that we conquer the land. It is thus written, "Possess the land and settle it, for I have given you the land in order that you take possession of it" (Numbers 33:53), and our sages explain the expression "possess" to imply the conquest and establishment of Israeli sovereignty in the land. Moreover, this commandment remains binding upon us in all generations (Ramban, Hosefot LeMitzvat Aseh 4). Shulchan Arukh concurs with this position (Even HaEzer 75), and Pitchei Teshuva (ad locum, 6) adds that all authorities are in agreement upon this law.

It is clear that the commandment to settle the land overrides the possibility of any life-threatening danger to individual lives, for we are enjoined by the Torah to conquer the land - and war, by its very nature, involves loss of life. It follows that regarding the obligation to settle the land of Israel any posed threat to individual Jewish lives is not considered a deterrent (Minchat Chinnukh, 425).

"Do not allow them to reside in your land"
In addition to the more general Torah commandment to take possession of the land of Israel, the Torah warns: "Do not allow them to reside in your land" (Exodus 23:33). The Rambam (Hilkhot Avoda Zara 10:6) explains that when we have the power it is forbidden to allow any non-Jew to reside in our land (with the exception of a "Ger Toshav" - a resident alien who has accepted some of the laws of Judaism).

Torah authorities, though, are divided over the question: To whom does this prohibition apply? While it is true that some early authorities are of the opinion that the biblical injunction, (babylical) "Do not allow them to reside in your land" applies exclusively to the "seven nations" (Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizites, Hivites, and Yebusites),

the majority take it to apply to any gentile who fails to uphold the seven laws of Noah’s descendants. This being the case, according to the two main opinions brought above it is forbidden for a ruling Jewish government to allow Arabs who refuse to accept Jewish sovereignty to live in Israel, and it goes without saying that it is forbidden to present them with land where they will be able to increase the number of non-Jews who do not uphold the Noahide laws.

No Consideration
The Torah (Talmud Bavli Mishnah Torah of sick perverted tradition) also exhorts: "...do not give them any consideration" , and the sages interpret this to mean that it is forbidden to provide non-Jews with any sort of foothold upon the soil of the land of Israel (Avodah Zara 20a). This prohibition compliments the previously-dealt-with proscription against allowing them "to reside in your land": it is the obligation of the entire Jewish people to uphold the "residence" prohibition; the "foothold" prohibition, on the other hand, warns each and every individual Jew not to sell a house or lot of land to any non-Jew who is not a Ger Toshav. It follows that it is forbidden to give any portion whatsoever to Arabs who do not uphold the seven Noahide laws. Regarding this interdiction there is consensus among authorities that it applies to all non-Jews and not just to the "seven nations," and if it is forbidden to sell them a single house, how much more so to give them large portions of the land of Israel.

"No land shall be sold permanently"
The Torah also warns us, "No land shall be sold permanently" , and the Ramban, basing himself upon the teachings of the sages, learns from here that it is forbidden to sell to a gentile any land which belongs to a Jew. The reason that this is forbidden is that such an act results in the land’s not returning to its original Jewish owner in the Jubilee year (Ramban, Mitzvoth Lo Ta’aseh 227). It follows that it is forbidden for the state of Israel to give portions of our ancestral inheritance to non-Jews.

No ruler or government in the word has the right to displace even a single Jew from his home in the land of Israel. The Almighty God has given this land to the nation of Israel and every Jew has a portion in it. No government in the world wields the authority to steal the lot of even a single Jew, uprooting him from a home which he bought or built in accordance with the law. It follows that any agreement which calls for the eviction of Jews from their homes is prohibited.

Incidentally, it is worth mentioning that according to the Ran (see Nedarim 28a) the rule "Dina D’Malkhuta Dina" (Lit., "the law of the kingdom is the law"; a Halakhic principle which says that Jews must obey the laws of the state in which they live) applies in the lands of the exile alone. The reason for this is that in these countries the land is the property of the kingdom, (see Supreme court ruling) and one is hence obligated to abide by the laws and ordinances of the country in which he resides. But, says the Ran, in the land of Israel, which belongs to the entire nation of Israel, there is no halakhically-based obligation to comply with the laws of the government. Only under a Jewish state (Talmudic Judaism) in the land of Israel, because it has the status of a "King of Israel," is there a requirement to conform to the laws.

Most authorities, however, hold that "Dina D’Malkhuta Dina" applies even in the land of Israel, for public consensus is what gives the government its authority to rule and promulgate laws. This is the opinion of both Rambam and Shulchan Arukh. Nevertheless, all agree with the basic assertion of the Ran, that the land of Israel belongs to the entire nation of Israel, and, hence, that no government possesses the authority to uproot Jews from their ancestral inheritance.

Life-Threatening Danger
According to the sages of the Talmud (Eruvin 45a) and the eventual ruling of the Shulchan Arukh (Orach Chaim 329:6), any concession to an enemy, even a slight one, constitutes an endangerment to life. The sages therefore taught that in a situation where enemies attempt to steal even "straw and stubble from a boarder settlement," Jews must go out and attack them. The reason for this course of action is that if adversaries are allowed to get away with straw and stubble, our power of deterrence will be weakened, and, in the end, neighboring peoples will undertake to capture settlements and murder people. And even if they come to steal on the Sabbath, the life-threatening danger involved makes it necessary to desecrate the Sabbath and carry out an armed response.
If, then, for mere straw and stubble the sages forbade making concessions because of the eventual life-threatening danger involved, it goes without saying that handing over entire settlements is out of the question. Such behavior will greatly kindle the motivation of the terrorists to murder. Indeed, the aftermath of the infamous Oslo accords have unfortunately already proven the correctness of the logic which underlies this ruling. The Oslo navigators promised peace for a hundred years, and instead caused us more than a thousand deaths and intensified worldwide anti-Semitism.

Desecration of God’s Name

Because the cession of territory which our enemies demand is backed by strong international pressure, submitting to these forces and relinquishing the land which God Himself bequeathed our ancestors and ourselves will render us guilty of desecrating God’s name. We are therefore enjoined to oppose all such anti-religious coercion.

Levels of Sanctification and Desecration
Any commandment which is carried out publicly has the effect of sanctifying God’s Name. Such an act hence possesses great value, for the entire purpose of creation is to reveal God’s majesty in this world.

On the other hand, transgressions carried out in public constitute a desecration of God’s name and their severity is therefore much greater than those carried out in private. The most famous Torah commandment in the world is the commandment to settle the land of Israel. The nations have only a vague concept about what is implied by kosher food or Sabbath observation,

but they all know that the Almighty has promised the land of Israel to the Jewish people. It is written numerous time in the Bible, and the Bible is the most important and popular book in the world.

The entire world knows that God promised the land of Israel to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,

Who believed the WORD of God, Jesus the Christ, and his seed them by faith, heirs to His Promise

and their offspring. All are aware that God, through His prophets, has declared that the Jews will eventually return to their land.

Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye are all become dross, behold, therefore I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem.

[As] they gather silver, and brass, and iron, and lead, and tin, into the midst of the furnace, to blow the fire upon it, to melt [it]; so will I gather [you] in mine anger and in my fury, and I will leave [you there], and melt you.

Yea, I will gather you, and blow upon you in the fire of my wrath, and ye shall be melted in the midst thereof.

Therefore, when, thanks to God’s abundant kindness, the state of Israel was established, God’s Name was sanctified greatly in the eyes of the nations, for the words of the Prophets were fulfilled.

When, again, we merited liberating Jerusalem, as well as Judeah, Samaria, and Gaza, God’s name was once again sanctified; it was as if the entire world heard the blast of the "shofar" (ram’s horn).

There could be almost no greater desecration of God’s Name than our now relinquishing portions of our sacred homeland.

Boris Kalyuzhny, an orange T-shirt tied around his waist to show solidarity with Israel's settlements movement, stood on a grassy patch across the street from the Embassy of Israel here, sweating in the late afternoon humidity. In his hand was a sign that read, "Sharon Let My People Stay."

The occasion was a rally against Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's unilateral disengagement plan from Gaza and a part of the West Bank, and Mr. Kalyuzhny's attention was on a speaker who angrily denounced the move as contravening "God's plan" for the Land of Israel.

"We have a jealous and a zealous God" (DRAGON) who demands "that we drive the gentile" from the Promised Land, said protest organizer Matt Finberg, whose solution for ending Palestinian violence against Jews is to expel all Arabs from Israel.

Lest you think Mr. Finberg a bit extreme, I hasten to add he is open to exceptions. Palestinians who agree to abide by "all seven" of the Noahide Laws, including the prohibition against murder, can stay as "resident aliens." And should they reject his offer? "If we have to kill them, we have to kill them," he said, without hesitation.

That's tough talk from someone who, instead of putting himself on the line in Gaza, resides in Boulder, Colo., a town likely to be spared the blowback from the action he so proudly recommends.

He moved to the laid-back university town at the foot of the Rockies a dozen or so years ago from Washington. It was, he said, a "lifestyle choice."

In contrast, Mr. Kalyuzhny, editor of the Upper Park Heights-based, Russian-language Jewish weekly magazine Spectr (Spectrum, in English), and one of eight Russian Jews from Baltimore who trucked to the rally (which drew a few dozen overall), was considerably more amiable - not to mention far less inflammatory and certainly less obnoxious.

Mr. Kalyuzhny, 62, who left Moscow more than 15 years ago, likewise opposes the disengagement plan and may also be accurately labeled a right-winger. But rather than yelling about killing Arabs, he used his limited English to convey his fear that unilaterally disengagement just won't work. Survival was his concern, not dominating others. Disengagement won't end Palestinian violence and will simply make Israel more vulnerable, he believes.

"Terrorists will be free to go in and out of Egypt and bring guns. Egypt will not do nothing. Egypt is not for Israel," he said. His argument is not without merit.

Egypt is not on Israel's side. After pocketing Gaza, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas will insist on a full Israeli withdrawal from the West Bank to the 1967 border, including re-dividing Jerusalem, and the right of return for 1967 and 1948 Palestinian refugees. Hamas, Islamic Jihad and other terrorist groups will continue to attack Israelis in the West Bank and Israel proper, and - yes - it will be painful to hear terrorists claim Gaza was "liberated" through violence, and only violence works.

Then why pull out? Why destroy the homes of 8,000 Jews and pit Israeli against Israeli just to re-experience the disappointment of Oslo?

Controlling Gaza's 1.3 million Palestinians is impossible. Israel can't forcibly expel them and the Noahide Laws suggestion is patently absurd.

And whatever Mr. Finberg might think, they can't all be killed. Israel must divest from Gaza not because the Palestinians deserve it, but because it makes demographic and - here I disagree with Mr. Kalyuzhny - military sense as well.

Barring terrible violence committed by Palestinians or radical settlers, Gaza disengagement will go forward in August, even as the likes of Mr. Finberg rant and rave while living in security and comfort. Forget trying to reason with him. Better to concentrate on getting the community's Mr. Kalyuzhnys to understand that disagreements among Jews need not be ruinous.

The famed archaeologist, who is the inspiration for the “Indiana Jones” series, has spent most of his life searching for the Ark of the Covenant. The ark was the resting place of the Ten Commandments written by Moshe (Moses) on Mount Sinai, and was hidden just before the destruction of the First Temple.

The Talmud says the Ark is hidden in a secret passage under the Temple Mount.

Jones says that in fact, the Ark was brought through a secret passage beneath the mount – and that same natural tunnel in fact continues 18 miles into the Judean Desert.

Throughout the many years of his quest, Jones has been in close contact and under the tutelage of numerous Rabbis and Kabbalists. Jones, who is extremely knowledgeable in Torah, Talmud and Kabbalah, has now received permission from both known and hidden Kabbalists to finally uncover the lost ark.

Dr. Jones, who divides his time between Texas and Israel, has been here since March 9th ready to finally reveal the Ark. However, Jones has been waiting for permission from a mysterious Kabbalist, as well as for project funding to come through.

Last Thursday, Dr. Jones received a communication from the rabbi reading, “The time is right.”

Noahide guru Jones, who predicted the Six Day War, says that the State of Israel is passing through the same biblical straights as the generation that entered Israel for the first time after the exodus from Egypt. “If history repeats itself, the history itself is prophecy,” Jones says.

“Israel is different from all other nations in a lot of ways, but more than anything else, Israel is the only nation whose history was written before it happened.”

Once a Christian pastor, (Fallen away from the Truth) Jones left his post to become a leader of the growing Noahide movement. Noahides are G-d fearing non-Jews who observe the seven laws of Noah, which are obligatory upon all of humanity.

The explorer and teacher, published a book in 1959 predicting the precise outbreak of the Six Day War, based on his analysis of the Jewish Exodus from Egypt up until the First Temple Period. He says that employing biblical analysis to modern times points to major events that will “turn the world right-side-up.”

Jones calculated the war in 1967 by analyzing the sequence of events in the First Temple Period and transposing them onto “the Third Temple Period” – the period beginning with the Jews’ foundation of an independent State in the Land of Israel in 1948.

Jones, analyzed the following passage from the book of Bamidbar: “So from 20 years old and upward, all that are able to go, went to war in Israel.”

“Well ’67 was the 20th year,” said Jones who received acclaim for fighting as an unlisted soldier in the Six Day War. Jones was the only non-Jewish American to take part in the combat.

“Two years at Mt. Sinai and then the Jewish people went to Kadesh Barnea,” he says referring to the time immediately following the exodus. Transposing the Jewish people’s first entry into Israel via the Jericho region and the re-entry to those areas in 1967, one can find striking similarities.

“Then they [the Jewish Nation] sent in those [twelve] spies who gave the evil report, and because they believed the evil report, they were sentenced to wander for 38 years before they could come into Gilgal,” – an ancient city near Jericho.

“1967 was a repetition of Kadesh Barnea,” Jones says. “If Israel had come in and taken this place, the Arabs would have fled like they did in 1948. But no, because of the evil report of Golda Meir and Motta Gur and Moshe Dayan, who said ‘We cannot do that, world opinion will be against us.’ So Israel was sentenced to 38 years more – and June the 7th [2005], Jerusalem Day, will be the 38th year.

Jones believes that the Jewish prophecies regarding the greatly anticipated redemption are occurring in front of our eyes.

Jones' escapades and explorations were the inspiration for the blockbuster movie 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' of the 'Indiana Jones' trilogy. The man who wrote the first draft of the film, Randolph Fillmore, was one of the volunteers who worked with Jones in 1977.

“I agreed to help him write the movie,” Jones said, “as long as – number one – he wouldn’t set it here (In Israel). Some people believe the ark is in Ethiopia or Egypt, some believe its in Constantinople or Rome. I just didn’t want it to be portrayed as being here. The second thing was, 'Don’t use my name.' So he didn’t. My name is Vendyl – V-E-N-D-Y-L. So he just dropped the first and last letters and it ended up Endy Jones.”

Although at the time of the film, Jones was far from pinpointing the location of the Ark, he has come a long way since then. With the help of an ancient document found in Qumran together with the Dead Sea Scrolls, known as the “Copper Scroll”, Dr. Jones has pinpointed the location of the Ark of the Covenant.

This is what we have been looking for all these years and I’ve walked over those boulders thousands of times without really stepping back and looking – realizing ‘hey, those boulders have been brought in here, they’ve been placed in here, they didn’t come off a mountain. And they’re huge.’”

Jones recounts his early explorations into the tunnels which lead from the ancient Old City of Jerusalem to the foot of the Dead Sea. “My son and I went an hour and 20 minutes into the tunnel. There were so many branches and we didn’t have anything to mark the route, so I said, ‘We better get out of here and come back with a roll of string.’ Then I made the mistake of asking permission to do it. That was before I learned that Israel is a lot like heaven - it is a lot easier to get forgiveness than it is permission.”

Suspect in Dutch filmmaker's murder makes dramatic court room confession

The man accused of killing Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh confessed to a Dutch court that he acted out of his religious beliefs, saying he would do "exactly the same" if he were ever set free.

"I take complete responsibility for my actions. I acted purely in the name of my religion," 27-year-old Dutch-Moroccan national Mohammed Bouyeri told the court in Amsterdam on the final day of his trial.

Prosecutor Frits van Straelen demanded a life sentence for Bouyeri for killing Van Gogh on an Amsterdam street on November 2, 2004. He recalled the particular brutality of the murder in broad daylight saying Bouyeri not only shot Van Gogh 15 times but also stabbed him and finally slit his throat.

According to the prosecutor the murder of Van Gogh, an outspoken columnist who often criticised Islam and the multi-cultural society, deeply shocked Dutch society.

The killing -- which happened in plain view of more than 50 witnesses while the filmmaker was cycling to work -- stoked ethnic tensions and sparked a wave of reprisal attacks primarily directed at the Muslim community here.

In addition to a life sentence, the prosecution also demanded that Bouyeri be stripped of his right to vote or stand for election for the rest of his life, "to literally place him outside of our democracy".

After the prosecution's closing statement Bouyeri, who had refused to say anything about his motives during the trial, took the opportunity to make a final statement.

"I can assure you that one day, should I be set free, I would do exactly the same, exactly the same," he said, speaking slowly in sometimes halted Dutch.

He said he felt an obligation to Van Gogh's mother Anneke, present in court, to speak, but offered no sympathy.

"I have to admit I do not feel for you, I do not feel your pain, I cannot -- I don't know what it is like to lose a child," he said as Van Gogh's family and friends looked on.

Van Gogh's mother listened quietly as Bouyeri, wearing a Palestinian black and white headscarf, spoke with a hint of admiration for her son.

"I cannot accuse your son of hypocrisy because he was not a hypocrite. He said things out of conviction," Bouyeri said of Van Gogh.

Bouyeri told the prosecutor that he concurred with the charges against him and the demand for a life sentence -- a sentence which holds no possibility of parole in the Netherlands.

Several months before he was killed Van Gogh, a distant relative of 19th-century painter Vincent van Gogh, had directed a short film called "Submission", which linked abuse of women to Islam.

A letter was left on his body that included quotations from the Koran and threats to several Dutch politicians, including Somali-born lawmaker Ayaan Hirsi Ali, who wrote the script for "Submission".

Bouyeri was arrested after a shoot-out with the police as he attempted to flee the murder scene.

He is charged with the premeditated murder of Van Gogh, the attempted murder of several police officers and bystanders, illegal possession of firearms, obstructing the work of Hirsi Ali as a member of parliament and threatening her with a terrorist act.

Hirsi Ali spent two months in hiding after the murder and is now under 24-hour protection.

Even though prosecutors have said that Bouyeri was "a leading figure" in a terrorist organization known as the Hofstad group, he has not yet been charged in that connection because of lack of evidence, Van Straelen said.

The Amsterdam court will hand down a verdict in the case on July 26, the three-judge panel said after the trial ended here Tuesday.

Rabbi Shlomo Dov Wolpo, a Chabad hassid who heads the World Headquarters for Saving the People and the Land, feels that Chabad's official leadership is not doing enough to fight disengagement.

"We cannot remain quiet while Jews' blood is about to be spilled," says Wolpo, who on many occasions has warned that the Gaza-North Samaria pullout would result in a Holocaust in the Holy Land.

But he also believes that disengagement is a sign that the messianic era is near. "We have a Prime Minister who wants to force one Jew to throw another Jew out of his house in order to give it to murderers. The situation cannot deteriorate much more than this. The darkness is darker than ever, redemption must be near."

Wolpo, who in March organized the single largest anti-disengagement demonstration attended primarily by Chabadniks, is preparing for the day when an order is given to evacuate Jews from Gaza and Northern Samaria. He hopes to organize thousands of Chabadniks to help prevent the move.

In an interview with the Post, he defends his views against mainstream Chabad policy.

Chabad spokesman Menahem Brod argues Chabad's main role is to bring Jews closer to Judaism, not to fight disengagement. What do you think?

I agree that Chabad's main role is outreach. But I see no contradiction. Chabad can also lead the battle against disengagement. In fact, fighting disengagement is also its responsibility. Just as the rebbe spearheaded the fight against Oslo, so too should Chabad be leading the fight against the disengagement.

The way Brod sees it, during Oslo there was a general apathy, until Chabad awoke Israelis to the dangers. What's the situation like today?

There are still not enough people fighting Sharon's plan, and the danger is much greater now than it was during Oslo. Today, there is a Palestinian state.

Wouldn't it hurt a Chabadnik's outreach efforts if he were to campaign against disengagement while, say, trying to convince a left-wing secular Jew from Sheinkin Street to put on tefillin?

I admit that it could. But that does not mean Chabad has to be completely silent. It is not necessary to mix anti-disengagement activities with outreach. The two can be done separately. For instance, when a Chabadnik passes out matzot for Pessah, he does not ask people if they adhere to the laws of Shabbat.

If Chabad openly fights disengagement, won't it hurt the cause by creating an impression that only religious fringe groups oppose disengagement?

Listen, anyone who would think that way is not our client for outreach anyway. Besides, when Brod cooked up the slogan 'Bibi is Good for the Jews,' he did not see anything wrong with Chabad being politically involved. In fact, he attacked me for openly opposing that pro-Bibi campaign.

It must do what it has always done: try to stop the government from giving up land to the gentiles. When Yamit was being evacuated, I and other Chabadniks went there to try to stop it. We told the rebbe we were going and he did not stop us.

The Chabadnik will not be fighting the soldier, the soldier will be fighting the Chabadnik. We did not cause the situation.

After the Seder, the Rebbe concluded by saying in Yiddish, "We'll soon discover that the entire Golus was worth eating one little piece of meat (alluding to the korban Pesach, or Pascal lamb, which G-d willing we'll all be eating in the Holy Temple this coming Passover)," meaning that we have no idea of the value of Moshiach, the rebuilding of the Holy Temple, korbonos, and the spiritual treasures that are in store for us. When one of his sons asked him to elaborate, the Rebbe refused, saying, "Ich hob schoin gezugt tzu fil," or, "I've already said too much."

Whoa, WHOA! This is not just another rabbi piling on, this is one of the top Jewish leaders of the generation. The signs are lining up, more than a few.
