"Moshiach" refers to the Nassi of the generation. When the Nassi charges his emissaries with their mission they become his messengers and when they commit their ten soul-powers and dedicate themselves to fulfilling their mission, they effect the revelation of the sender, the Moshiach (358).

Rv:17:12:

 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.

Why is the Nassi equivalent to Moshiach? First of all the simple meaning of the term Moshiach is "anointed one," which personifies the Nassi, who was chosen and anointed to be the Nassi and Shepherd of Israel.

I should not complain if you were to translate Moshiach as the "redeemer -- our righteous Moshiach," because in truth the Nassi of the generation is the redeemer of the generation.

The Nazi who delivered Zion to the jews.........Hitler the Talmudic scholar, was such a nassi.

The role of every generational Nassi and Shepherd of the Jewish People is to be the "Moshe Rabbeinu" of that generation. As the Zohar teaches,

An emanation from Moshe is present in every generation. So much so, that every genuine Torah scholar is also called a Moshe.

Inasmuch as Moshe was the first redeemer and will also be the ultimate redeemer, it follows that the Moshe of every generation, the Nassi or leader, is also the Moshiach, the redeemer of that generation.

Consequently, when the Nassi appoints his envoys and they stand in his stead and carry out their mission with commitment, devotion and meticulous care, using their ten soul-powers, then the "Shaliach" (348) plus his ten powers becomes "Moshiach." In him the sender -- Moshiach -- is revealed and then the ultimate revelation of Moshiach will actually come.

Those who argue that they are incapable of grasping the profundity of this concept and are still grappling with the principle that the Nassi is Moshiach -- no matter -- let them simply carry out the directives of the Nassi by disseminating Torah, Yiddishkeit and the "wellsprings" to the outside. A timely expression of this outreach would be to go out to make Jews happy on Simchas Torah and to encourage them to increase all aspects of Yiddishkeit, Torah and mitzvos.

This includes strengthening the faith in the advent of Moshiach and the longing for his coming. As the Rambam rules, Moshiach will be a "King from the family of Dovid ..." in this physical, temporal world. And anyone who does not trust in his coming and does not long for Moshiach, it is as if he negates and denies the whole Torah.

At the same time, the belief in, and prayer for, Moshiach will speed his coming. For this reason we say three times daily: "Speedily cause the scion of Dovid Your servant to flourish...." [see MIdrash, Radak, Chida and others.]

What actually is this connection between the emissaries and Moshiach? Moshiach's neshamah is the general all-encompassing yechidah-soul of the Jewish people, which means that the yechidah-soul-level of every Jew is a part of the soul of Moshiach. Every Jew has a 'spark' of the soul of Moshiach.

This important component of the Jewish soul influences the essential being of the Jew. When properly developed and revealed it will effect an amazing ascension in the spiritual powers and faculties of the individual. The person must put his mind to the Divine service of revealing this inner spark so that it will illuminate his entire being -- and as a result of the individual revelation -- there will be more power to reveal the general yechidah-soul and bring Moshiach.

Should you wonder how his small individual spark will influence the totality of Moshiach!? The answer is that when you deal with an essential unitary entity (etzem), by taking hold of any part, you in effect grab the whole -- for all parts are actually the essential unity.

The soul-level of "yechidah" houses the spark of actual G-dliness -- a ray of the Creator. Thus, the "spark" of the created (the part of yechidah in each person) is one with the "ray" of the Creator; in turn it is attached to the essence of G-d.

Now, when we realize that the yechidah level of every Jew is the ray of the soul of Moshiach then every Jew has the ability through his small spark to have some influence on the total Moshiach.

Esoterics aside, we must say that every Jew has the power to bring Moshiach by the minutest act. For the Rambam rules that he must always view himself and the world as perfectly balanced between good and bad and:

If he fulfills one commandment, he turns the scale of merit in his favor and in that of the whole world and brings salvation and deliverance to all his fellow creatures and to himself. (Laws of Teshuvah 3:4)

By using the term "one commandment" the Rambam is clearly indicating that its size is not important -- for if the balance is precise and delicate, then even the slightest change will weigh the balance completely to the side of good -- and bring our righteous Moshiach.

At the same time that a Jew is involved in revealing the ray of Moshiach in his own soul he must also be involved in revealing G-dliness in the world, to prepare for the fulfillment of the promise:

And the glory of the L-rd shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together for the mouth of the L-rd has spoken. (Yeshayahu 40:5)

The G-dly spark in all created beings creates, enlivens and sustains all creations. This creative force, ex nihilo, is truly bound up with the essence of the Creator. However, as the world comes into being, the creative force is forcibly hidden. How can it be revealed? -- through the Divine service of a Jew, who reveals and advertises the spirituality of the material world.

The Baal Shem Tov taught that when a Jew comes to a particular place he must realize that he is there for a reason. Divine providence placed him there to fulfill a mission, to bring G-d's Name to dwell in that place. Even a place which is "distant" from G-dliness can become an abode for the revelation of the Name of G-d -- the in-dwelling of the Shechinah.

This was the practice of Avraham Avinu, the first Jew. The Torah tells us:

And there he called in the Name of G-d, L-rd of the Universe. (Bereishis 21:33)

On which the Gemara explains that he taught the inhabitants to call the Name of G-d, Master of the world; he taught them to recognize and appreciate that G-d is Creator and Master of the world; he revealed G-dliness.

When Avraham bequeathed this attribute to his descendants he also gave us the responsibility to go out and follow in his footsteps to reveal G-dliness in the distant places of the world. As a result it became clear that this mission cannot be accomplished by sitting at home but only by travelling out and reaching the distant points of the world and revealing G-dliness there.

What is the special role of the Shaliach? We discussed the concept that the Nassi of the generation has the role of Moshiach of the generation. When the Nassi chooses someone and appoints him to the role of emissary, he stands in place of the sender. He goes to a spiritually distant place to spread Yiddishkeit and to make a dwelling for the Shechinah there. When the Shaliach does his mission with dedication and devotion, using his ten soul-powers, he then adds the number ten to the gematria of Shaliach -- 348. This is the revelation of Moshiach in that generation.

To ease the burden of this work -- one must be connected to the Nassi, the generational Moshiach. For G-d reveals His secrets through His prophets, and the righteous of each generation bring about the revelation of G-dliness. So many of us saw the previous Rebbe act in openly miraculous ways. When this connection is essential and intrinsic, it also helps to reveal the spark of Moshiach in himself -- for that is the role of the Nassi.

The role of emissary is really pertinent for every Jew, but it depends on the individual whether he will assume the role and shoulder the responsibilities. In fact, the present Shluchim must realize that they have the responsibility to encourage others to assume the role of Shaliach -- to spread Yiddishkeit and Torah in every place. The involvement to encourage others to step into the role of Shaliach, no matter what their previous position or level of Divine service, touches upon another aspect of revealing the essence of the Jew, for the revelation of the essence of G-dliness will spread across the full gamut from the greatest to the smallest:

For they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them. (Yermiyahu 31:33)

The revelation of the essential "Me" will be the same for the "least" and the "greatest."

For those who till this moment may have had doubts about their role as emissary, let it be known from this point onwards that they may join the ranks and become Shluchim of the Nassi of our generation.

Additionally, since they have seriously agonized over this question of their eligibility, they should know that their ponderations prove that they are in fact true ambassadors, for if not, where would the doubt come from and why would they spend so much time thinking about it!?

Are you wondering why the matter is not certain in their minds? On the contrary -- the word Sa'Fe'K' (doubt) has the gematria of A'Ma'Le'K' -- (240). The doubt has crept into their minds to give them the opportunity to fulfill the mitzvah of eradicating Amalek by absolutely wiping away the doubt completely.

Similarly, anyone who has presented a query concerning the matter of becoming a Shaliach, the purpose of all the doubts and questions is to be neutralized and removed from the mind. Just as we find in Tanya in connection with extraneous thoughts which plague a person during prayer:

This is like the example of a person praying with devotion, while facing him there stands a wicked heathen who chats and speaks to him in order to confuse him. Surely the thing to do in such a case would be not to answer him.... Rather he should adopt an attitude as if he neither knows nor hears.... (Tanya ch. 28)

Whatever the case, the first step is to get involved in the mission of spreading Yiddishkeit and the wellsprings, and thereby to bring the redemption!

The practical lesson for every Shaliach of the Nassi of our generation is to increase qualitatively and quantitatively all his efforts associated with carrying out his mission.

In this role we must include the aspect of being "illuminating lights" to spread Torah, Yiddishkeit and also Chassidus everywhere. It started with the Baal Shem Tov and the Alter Rebbe and was greatly emphasized and expanded by the Previous Rebbe. When this is done wholeheartedly, with the ten soul-powers, it will bring the revelation of Moshiach in reality.

The joy of Simchas Torah, which pierces all restrictions, will inspire them and invigorate them to carry out their mission and breach the walls of the diaspora.

What is the relationship of joy with the ultimate redemption; what is the meaning of "everlasting joy upon their heads"? (Yeshayah 35:10) The answer: when joy pierces the walls of the golus the true and complete redemption at the hands of our righteous Moshiach will be effected.

May all the Jewish people leave the golus "with our youth and our elders ... our sons and daughters," the complete nation, with the complete Torah, and in this manner proceed to our Holy Land -- the complete land: "where the eyes of G-d your L-rd are on it at all times, from the beginning of the year until the end of the year." (Devorim 11:12)

The complete and true redemption through our righteous Moshiach speedily and truly in our days, truly, truly!

WASHINGTON - After 60 years of inattention and even denial by the U.S. media, newly-uncovered government documents in The National Archives and Library of Congress reveal that Prescott Bush, the grandfather of President George W. Bush, served as a business partner of and U.S. banking operative for the financial architect of the Nazi war machine from 1926 until 1942, when Congress took aggressive action against Bush and his "enemy national" partners.

The documents also show that Bush and his colleagues, according to reports from the U.S. Department of the Treasury and FBI, tried to conceal their financial alliance with German industrialist Fritz Thyssen, a steel and coal baron who, beginning in the mid-1920s, personally funded Adolf Hitler's rise to power by the subversion of democratic principle and German law.

Furthermore, the declassified records demonstrate that Bush and his associates, who included E. Roland Harriman, younger brother of American icon W. Averell Harriman, and George Herbert Walker, President Bush's maternal great-grandfather, continued their dealings with the German industrial baron for nearly eight months after the U.S. entered the war.

No Story?

For six decades these historical facts have gone unreported by the mainstream U.S. media. The essential facts have appeared on the Internet and in relatively obscure books, but were dismissed by the media and Bush family as undocumented diatribes. This story has also escaped the attention of "official" Bush biographers, Presidential historians and publishers of U.S. history books covering World War II and its aftermath.

The White House did not respond to phone calls seeking comment.

The Summer of '42

The unraveling of the web of Bush-Harriman-Thyssen U.S. enterprises, all of which operated out of the same suite of offices at 39 Broadway under the supervision of Prescott Bush, began with a story that ran in the New York Herald-Tribune on July 30, 1942. By then, the U.S. had been at war with Germany for nearly eight months.

"Hitler's Angel Has $3 Million in U.S. Bank," declared the headline. The lead paragraph characterized Fritz Thyssen as "Adolf Hitler's original patron a decade ago." In fact, the steel and coal magnate had aggressively supported and funded Hitler since October 1923, according to Thyssen's autobiography, I Paid Hitler. In that book, Thyssen also acknowledges his direct personal relationships with Adolf Hitler, Joseph Goebbels and Rudolf Hess.

The Herald-Tribune also cited unnamed sources who suggested Thyssen's U.S. "nest egg" in fact belonged to "Nazi bigwigs" including Goebbels, Hermann Goering, Heinrich Himmler, or even Hitler himself.

Business is Business

The "bank," founded in 1924 by W. Averell Harriman on behalf of Thyssen and his Bank voor Handel en Scheepvaart N.V. of Holland, was Union Banking Corporation (UBC) of New York City. According to government documents, it was in reality a clearing house for a number of Thyssen-controlled enterprises and assets, including as many as a dozen individual businesses. UBC also bought and shipped overseas gold, steel, coal, and U.S. Treasury and war bonds. The company's activities were administered for Thyssen by a Netherlands-born, naturalized U.S. citizen named Cornelis Lievense, who served as president of UBC. Roland Harriman was chairman and Prescott Bush a managing director.

The Herald-Tribune article did not identify Bush or Harriman as executives of UBC, or Brown Brothers Harriman, in which they were partners, as UBC's private banker. A confidential FBI memo from that period suggested, without naming the Bush and Harriman families, that politically prominent individuals were about to come under official U.S. government scrutiny as Hitler's plunder of Europe continued unabated.

After the "Hitler's Angel" article was published Bush and Harriman made no attempts to divest themselves of the controversial Thyssen financial alliance, nor did they challenge the newspaper report that UBC was, in fact, a de facto Nazi front organization in the U.S.

Instead, the government documents show, Bush and his partners increased their subterfuge to try to conceal the true nature and ownership of their various businesses, particularly after the U.S. entered the war. The documents also disclose that Cornelis Lievense, Thyssen's personal appointee to oversee U.S. matters for his Rotterdam-based Bank voor Handel en Scheepvaart N.V., via UBC for nearly two decades, repeatedly denied to U.S. government investigators any knowledge of the ownership of the Netherlands bank or the role of Thyssen in it.

UBC's original group of business associates included George Herbert Walker, who had a relationship with the Harriman family that began in 1919. In 1922, Walker and W. Averell Harriman traveled to Berlin to set up the German branch of their banking and investment operations, which were largely based on critical war resources such as steel and coal.

The Walker-Harriman-created German industrial alliance also included partnership with another German titan who supported Hitler's rise, Friedrich Flick, who partnered with Thyssen in the German Steel Trust that forged the Nazi war machine. For his role in using slave labor and his own steel, coal and arms resources to build Hitler's war effort, Flick was convicted at the Nuremberg trials and sentenced to seven years in prison.

The Family Business

In 1926, after Prescott Bush had married Walker's daughter, Dorothy, Walker brought Bush in as a vice president of the private banking and investment firm of W.A. Harriman & Co., also located in New York. Bush became a partner in the firm that later became Brown Brothers Harriman and the largest private investment bank in the world. Eventually, Bush became a director of and stockholder in UBC.

However, the government documents note that Bush, Harriman, Lievense and the other UBC stockholders were in fact "nominees," or phantom shareholders, for Thyssen and his Holland bank, meaning that they acted at the direct behest of their German client.

Seized

On October 20, 1942, under authority of the Trading with the Enemy Act, the U.S. Congress seized UBC and liquidated its assets after the war. The seizure is confirmed by Vesting Order No. 248 in the U.S. Office of the Alien Property Custodian and signed by U.S. Alien Property Custodian Leo T. Crowley.

In August, under the same authority, Congress had seized the first of the Bush-Harriman-managed Thyssen entities, Hamburg-American Line, under Vesting Order No. 126, also signed by Crowley. Eight days after the seizure of UBC, Congress invoked the Trading with the Enemy Act again to take control of two more Bush-Harriman-Thyssen businesses - Holland-American Trading Corp. (Vesting Order No. 261) and Seamless Steel Equipment Corp (Vesting Order No. 259). In November, Congress seized the Nazi interests in Silesian-American Corporation, which allegedly profited from slave labor at Auschwitz via a partnership with I.G. Farben, Hitler's third major industrial patron and partner in the infrastructure of the Third Reich.

The documents from the Archives also show that the Bushes and Harrimans shipped valuable U.S. assets, including gold, coal, steel and U.S. Treasury and war bonds, to their foreign clients overseas as Hitler geared up for his 1939 invasion of Poland, the event that sparked World War II.

That's One Way to Put It

Following the Congressional seizures of UBC and the other four Bush-Harriman-Thyssen enterprises, The New York Times reported on December 16, 1944, in a brief story on page 25, that UBC had "received authority to change its principal place of business to 120 Broadway." The Times story did not report that UBC had been seized by the U.S. government or that the new address was the U.S. Office of the Alien Property Custodian. The story also neglected to mention that the other UBC-related businesses had also been seized by Congress.

Still No Story?

Since then, the information has not appeared in any U.S. news coverage of any Bush political campaign, nor has it been included in any of the major Bush family biographies. It was, however, covered extensively in George H.W. Bush: The Unauthorized Biography, by Webster Tarpley and Anton Chaitkin. Chaitkin's father served as an attorney in the 1940s for some of the victims of the Bush-Harriman-Thyssen businesses.

The book gave a detailed, accurate accounting of the Bush family's long Nazi affiliation, but no mainstream U.S. media entity reported on or even investigated the allegations, despite careful documentation by the authors. Major booksellers declined to distribute the book, which was dismissed by Bush supporters as biased and untrue. Its authors struggled even to be reviewed in reputable newspapers. That the book was published by a Lyndon LaRouche's organization undoubtedly made it easier to dismiss, but does not change the facts.

The essence of the story been posted for years on various Internet sites, including BuzzFlash.com and TakeBackTheMedia.com, but no online media seem to have independently confirmed it.

Likewise, the mainstream media have apparently made no attempt since World War II to either verify or disprove the allegations of Nazi collaboration against the Bush family. Instead, they have attempted to dismiss or discredit such Internet sites or "unauthorized" books without any journalistic inquiry or research into their veracity.

Loyal Defenders

The National Review ran an essay on September 1 by their White House correspondent Byron York, entitled "Annals of Bush-Hating." It begins mockingly: "Are you aware of the murderous history of George W. Bush - indeed, of the entire Bush family? Are you aware of the president's Nazi sympathies? His crimes against humanity? And do you know, by the way, that George W. Bush is a certifiable moron?" York goes on to discredit the "Bush is a moron" IQ hoax, but fails to disprove the Nazi connection.

The more liberal Boston Globe ran a column September 29 by Reason magazine's Cathy Young in which she referred to "Bush-o-phobes on the Internet" who "repeat preposterous claims about the Bush family's alleged Nazi connections."

Poles Tackle the Topic

Newsweek Polska, the magazine's Polish edition, published a short piece on the "Bush Nazi past" in its March 5, 2003 edition. The item reported that "the Bush family reaped rewards from the forced-labor prisoners in the Auschwitz concentration camp," according to a copyrighted English-language translation from Scoop Media (www.scoop.co.nz). The story also reported the seizure of the various Bush-Harriman-Thyssen businesses.

Still Not Interested

Major U.S. media outlets, including ABC News, NBC News, The New York Times, Washington Post, Washington Times, Los Angeles Times and Miami Herald, have repeatedly declined to investigate the story when information regarding discovery of the documents was presented to them beginning Friday, August 29. Newsweek U.S. correspondent Michael Isikoff, famous for his reporting of big scoops during the Clinton-Lewinsky sexual affair of the 1990s, declined twice to accept an exclusive story based on the documents from the archives.

Aftermath

After the seizures of the various businesses they oversaw with Cornelis Lievense and his German partners, the U.S. government quietly settled with Bush, Harriman and others after the war. Bush and Harriman each received $1.5 million in cash as compensation for their seized business assets.

In 1952, Prescott Bush was elected to the U.S. Senate, with no press accounts about his well-concealed Nazi past. There is no record of any U.S. press coverage of the Bush-Nazi connection during any political campaigns conducted by George Herbert Walker Bush, Jeb Bush, or George W. Bush, with the exception of a brief mention in an unrelated story in the Sarasota Herald Tribune in November 2000 and a brief but inaccurate account in The Boston Globe in 2001.

A judge who made an honest mistake in rendering a decision in a financial lawsuit is exempt from compensating the victim of his error only if he was certified as a judge by the head of the high court. But while a judge in Eretz Yisrael could receive such certification from the Exilarch in Babylon or the Nassi who headed the Sanhedrin in his own country, a judge in Babylon could be certified only by the Exilarch and not by the Nassi. The reason for this is that the Exilarch in Babylon was granted authority by the Persian rulers of that country to enforce their rulings with a strong hand, including confiscation of property, a power that the Nassi did not enjoy under Roman rule.

Soon they hope to once again, Cut-Off Jesus  the Christ from mankind and attempt to establish their Olam Haba and their flesh king. The Hour is Dark, but be of good cheer, for that very same Jesus will return in the Clouds in all His Glory.

In late September, Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul D. Wolfowitz appeared in Manhattan at an event sponsored by the New Yorker magazine. As he began to speak, he was interrupted by shouts of "War criminal!" and "Murderer!"

"I can't resist," he said evenly, surveying the audience. "This is what is wonderful about this country. It is -- "

Another shout: "Shame on you."

Wolfowitz drove on: " -- and what is finally wonderful is 50 million, roughly 50 million Afghans and Iraqis, are finally able to speak this way without having their tongues cut out."

A few minutes later, a young man ran to the base of the stage, jabbed a finger at Wolfowitz and shouted: "You should be tried for treason, you Nazi!"

If Wolfowitz was jarred by the attack, he showed no sign of it. Rather, he looked a bit distant as he coolly responded: "Frankly, my own reading of history is that exactly this kind of tactic is what the Nazis did and what the totalitarians did in trying to stop people from listening and talking."

Saddam Hussein, he went on to say, was a malevolent dictator who clearly needed to be removed for the good of both the American and the Iraqi peoples. "I think anyone with the slightest bit of moral sense understood what an evil man Saddam was and how much better off the world would be with him gone." Later in the same session, he added, "To me, it's almost beyond argument."

No deputy secretary of defense has ever held the prominence that Wolfowitz has had over the last two years. He is widely seen inside the Pentagon as the most likely replacement if Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld steps down.

And no figure in the administration, with the possible exception of Vice President Cheney, is as closely identified with the drive to invade Iraq and depose Hussein. "This is Wolfowitz's baby," said one person who has served as a senior official of the Coalition Provisional Authority, the U.S.-led occupation power in Iraq. "He feels responsible for it."

To understand Paul Wolfowitz and the policies he advocates, notes a friend and former colleague, it is important to understand that Wolfowitz believes there is real evil in the world, and that he is confronting it. The lesson that Wolfowitz took away from the Cold War, says Eliot Cohen, who knew him at Johns Hopkins University, where Wolfowitz was a dean before moving to the Pentagon, is "that the world really is a dangerous place, and that you have to do something about it."

Paired with that is his belief that the United States can best respond to totalitarianism by emphasizing freedom and democracy. Wolfowitz possesses "a basic optimism about the potential of human beings for moderation and self-governance, and a belief in the universal appeal of liberty," Cohen says.

That combination of a hardheaded view of some men with an idealistic faith in mankind, Cohen concludes, adds up to "a distinctively American take on the world."

So when Wolfowitz talks with great intensity about Iraq, it isn't just because his political future and his place in history are likely to be determined by the course of events there. He sees the U.S. invasion as part of a larger campaign against terrorism, and that post-Sept. 11, 2001, fight as the third great American struggle against totalitarianism, the new century's successor to the great fights against Nazism and Soviet communism. A recent conversation with him in his Pentagon office skipped among those three eras, moving from the Holocaust to the crimes of Hussein to the Cold War's Cuban missile crisis.

"The differences are as great as the similarities" in those three struggles, he says. But there is a basic similarity in that "we're dealing with a fundamental existential threat to our way of life, to our values."

The main parallel, he says, is "not so much in the nature of the enemy we're confronting as in the nature of the challenge it presents to us. That is, it really does require mobilization of a major effort on our part. It requires contemplating a long-term struggle."

This isn't just theorizing. Wolfowitz's own life runs through all three of those confrontations.

Though he didn't say so that day in New York when he was accused of being a Nazi, he lost most of his extended family in the Holocaust, with his line surviving because his father had emigrated from Poland in 1920 as a child.

Wolfowitz, who just turned 60, shies away from discussing his family's losses. Asked about it, his response is seemingly off point. "The event that happened in my college years that had the biggest single impression on me, even more than Kennedy's assassination, was the Cuban missile crisis" -- that is, the prospect of nuclear holocaust. Pressed, he says, "It was a fairly poor family in Poland." Does he know how many relatives were lost, and where? "I really don't," he says.

Some observers of Wolfowitz speculate that one lesson he took from the Holocaust is that the American people need to be pushed to do the right thing, because by the time they entered World War II, it was too late for millions of Jews and other victims of the Nazis.

Asked about this, Wolfowitz agrees but expands on the thought -- and connects it to Iraq. "I think the world in general has a tendency to say, if somebody evil like Saddam is killing his own people, 'That's too bad, but that's really not my business.' " That's dangerous, he continued, because Hussein was "in a class with very few others -- Stalin, Hitler, Kim Jong Il. . . . People of that order of evil . . . tend not to keep evil at home, they tend to export it in various ways and eventually it bites us."

During the concluding phases of the Cold War with the Soviet Union, under Presidents Carter, Reagan and George H.W. Bush, Wolfowitz served in a series of posts at the State Department and the Defense Department.

"We learned in the last century that democracies cannot live peacefully and undisturbed in a world where evil people control whole nations and seek to expand their bloody rule," he said in a speech last month. "We may have forgotten that lesson in the euphoria over the end of the Cold War." But, he added, we were reminded of that harsh lesson by Sept. 11.

Middle East Goals

Wolfowitz has been in the limelight in recent weeks because it was his signature on a controversial Pentagon document that barred companies from Russia, Canada, France and Germany from bidding on prime contracts for postwar reconstruction in Iraq. In the interview, he expresses some puzzlement about the splash that move made. "Why it struck people as news was a little bit of a mystery," he says. It was the right policy, he continues, and it wasn't intended to punish any countries but rather to reward more than just American companies. "By the way, it wasn't my decision," he adds, though he says he agrees with it. "This was an administration decision. . . . I was simply signing the implementing instruction."

The contract action does fit into his view of the Cold War. One of the lessons of that conflict, he wrote in an essay three years ago, was the necessity of "demonstrating that your friends will be protected and taken care of, that your enemies will be punished, and that those who refuse to support you will live to regret having done so."

That calculating approach surprises some who see him as an idealistic academic. Indeed, he is a second-generation Ivy League intellectual, a former Yale political scientist who is the son of a Cornell mathematician.

"Wolfowitz comes across as smart, likable, well-meaning and deep," Wesleyan University Professor Phyllis Rose wrote with a touch of puzzlement in a recent issue of the American Scholar, the journal of the Phi Beta Kappa Society.

He can also mystify some of his colleagues in government. "A lot of us know him and like him as a person, but some of the policies he advocates are very difficult to understand or deal with," said a senior State Department official who had worked with Wolfowitz. "He's a man full of contradictions."

But to Wolfowitz, there is no contradiction between calculated policies and idealistic goals. Rather, he contends, they can reinforce each other. Indeed, Wolfowitz is most confrontational when he is most idealistic.

Nowhere is that more evident than in his advocacy of transforming the politics of the Middle East, a policy that frequently is attacked as unrealistically idealistic. As he put it to the Jerusalem Post earlier this year, "The idea that we could live with another 20 years of stagnation in the Middle East that breeds this radicalism and breeds terrorism is, I think, just unacceptable."

Pentagon insiders say this vision of a democratic transformation of the troubled region is probably the biggest single area of discrepancy in policy views between Wolfowitz and Rumsfeld, who is said to doubt that such a sweeping change is possible. Asked whether there is daylight between him and his boss on this issue, Wolfowitz said, "Democracy in the Middle East is the president's policy, and we both support it enthusiastically."

Some see Wolfowitz's views on the Middle East as dangerously naive. "Wolfowitz doesn't know much about the business he's in," says retired Marine Gen. Joseph Hoar, a former chief of the Central Command, the U.S. military headquarters for the region. "He knows very little about war fighting. And he knows very little about the Middle East, aside from maybe Israel."

Likewise, the latest issue of Parameters, the official journal of the U.S. Army War College, carried some tart commentary aimed at Wolfowitz and his colleagues. Jeffrey Record, a former staffer for the Senate Armed Services Committee, wrote that "the Bush Administration, and more specifically the civilian leadership of the Pentagon, made faulty assumptions about postwar Iraq and failed to plan properly for Iraq's reconstruction." He particularly faulted "the 'liberation' scenario peddled by the Defense Department's neoconservative naifs."

Wolfowitz responds, "I think I know a lot about Islam, as a whole, and I know a lot about the Middle East. I've been following it for a very long time." He also notes that the experts frequently have been wrong about whether one Arab state would attack another, as Iraq did to Kuwait in 1990, or what the reaction of the "Arab street" would be to the U.S. invasion of Iraq this year.

But to Wolfowitz, trying to change the Middle East is far from unrealistic. Rather, it is using universal ideals to achieve the practical end of curtailing terrorism. Just as much of East Asia democratized in the 1980s and 1990s, so too is there a chance that the Middle East could change radically. "It could," he says. "And it's certainly worth a try."

"Change has to start someplace," he says. "The status quo . . . produced [Osama] bin Laden and produced thousands of people eager to kill themselves in order to kill Americans."

Intellectual Combatant

Another charge, sometimes muttered in the military, is that Wolfowitz and his hawkish colleagues would act differently if they had ever been in combat. Retired Marine Gen. Anthony C. Zinni, for example, says that if Wolfowitz and others in the administration -- Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and their advisers -- had experienced combat as young men, they might have thought longer about invading and occupying Iraq. "I think it would have changed them," says Zinni, one of the more prominent critics of Bush administration policy in Iraq. "I just wish somebody in that chain of command would have seen combat at that time." He believes this is a moral issue. "They were my contemporaries. They should have been there, and they found a way not to serve. And where are their kids? Are their kids serving? My son is in the Marines."

Wolfowitz responds calmly to this charge. He notes that he has visited soldiers badly wounded in Iraq. "I am not at all unmindful of what it means to send American kids into combat," he says. "I go up to Walter Reed enough to see some of the consequences."

And he is careful not to be dismissive of his critics. "I think that those people who have experienced war have an even deeper distaste for it. And that is something I have a lot of respect for and a lot of time for."

But there are other considerations that must be kept in mind. And that takes him back to the Nazis. "Certainly the failure to confront Hitler was largely from fear of what the consequences would be, and that led to much greater consequences."

Wolfowitz has shown physical courage on his two trips to Iraq, not only coming under rocket attack in his hotel in October, but also walking some streets and mixing with crowds.

But the specialty he has chosen is intellectual combat. In the campaign against terrorism, he said in a speech last month, "there is definitely an element of it that is in the realm of the battle of ideas, not just the battle of guns and bullets."

And so he charges into the fray. Appearing at Georgetown University in October, he stood on a stage and listened as a student denounced him. "I think I speak for many of us here when I say that your policies are deplorable," she said, standing at a floor microphone. "They're responsible for the deaths of innocents" -- here a wave of applause -- "and the disintegration of civil liberties."

When she finished, Wolfowitz calmly responded: "I have to infer from that you would be happier if Saddam Hussein were still in power." Here others in the audience cheered and clapped even louder. It was like watching a Parris Island drill instructor drop a recruit with a flick of his wrist.

(St. Louis-AP) -- A federal appeals court has upheld the sentence for a man who had suggested that President Bush might be set ablaze.

 

Richard Humphreys appealed his three-year sentence, saying his comment was protected by free speech rights. He was convicted in 2002 of threatening to kill or harm the president.

 

The court found Humphreys suffers from bipolar disorder, and should serve his confinement in a federal medical center.

 

Humphreys says he got into a barroom discussion with a truck driver a day before Bush's March 2001 visit to Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

 

A bartender who overheard the conversation told police that Humphreys talked about a "burning Bush" and the possibility of someone setting Bush on fire.

Sue Smethurst enjoys traveling. It's one of the things about my job that I absolutely love," says the 30-year-old Australian, who works as an associate editor for the women's magazine New Idea. She doesn't even mind flying. "It's one of the great pleasures of the world to be able to turn off your cell phone and be where no one can annoy you."

 

But when her Qantas flight from Melbourne, Australia, touched down at LAX around 8 a.m. on Friday, November 14, Smethurst found herself nightmarishly annoyed - by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Smethurst was supposed to continue to New York and on Monday interview singer Olivia Newton-John. Smethurst had honeymooned in Manhattan last year and was looking forward to a long, free weekend having a good walk through Central Park, getting a decent bowl of chicken soup and going Christmas shopping - all those gorgeous New York things."

 

Better still, her six-hour layover in L.A. would allow her to have lunch with her American literary agent. "I had a room booked at the Airport Hilton, where I was going to my leave bags, shower and get a cup of coffee."

 

But first she had to clear LAX's immigration check-in, which she reached after 20 minutes in line. An officer from the DHS's newly minted Customs and Border Protection (CBP) bureau studied the traveler's declaration form Smethurst had filled out on the plane.

 

"Oh, you're a journalist," he noted. "What are you here for?"

 

"I'm interviewing Olivia Newton-John," Smethurst replied.

 

"That's nice," the official said, impressed. "What's the article about?"

 

"Breast cancer."

 

When Smethurst tells me this, she pauses and adds, "I thought that last question was a little odd, but figured everything's different now in America and it was fine." What she didn't know was that her assignment and travel plans, along with the chicken soup and stroll through Central Park, had been terminated the moment she confirmed she was a journalist.

 

Fourteen hours later, she was escorted by three armed guards onto the 11 p.m. Qantas flight home.

 

"I want to say right off that I adore America and love Americans," Smethurst says. Still, she remains perplexed and emotionally bruised by what followed in Terminal Four.

 

The CBP agent who read Smethurst's traveler's questionnaire took her to a secondary inspection area 30 feet away and told her to wait, then left for half an hour. He returned with additional uniformed staff who, professionally and pleasantly enough, asked more questions.

 

What sort of stories did she write? What kind of magazine was New Idea?

 

Where was it published? What was its circulation? Does it print politically sensitive articles? When would her interview appear? Who would be reading it?

 

"I laughed," Smethurst recalls, because we're a cross between Good Housekeeping and People magazine. "The most political thing we'd likely print was Laura Bush's horoscope."

 

The polite interrogation continued. Who was her father? His occupation? Her mother's maiden name and occupation? What were their dates of birth, where did they live?

 

The agents gravely nodded at Smethurst's replies and left once more, promising to return. When they came back half an hour later, one of the officers offered Smethurst a cup of airport coffee.

 

"I thought at that stage something was quite wrong," Smethurst says, "so I asked the man with the coffee if there was some problem."

 

"I will tell you when there's a problem," he abruptly snapped, according to Smethurst. Then he pointed to a nearby sign:

At about noon, CBP informed Smethurst she would be denied entre into the United States: While Australian tourists visiting the United States are visa-waived for 90 days, working journalists need a special I-Visa, which Smethurst had not been aware of and did not possess. She had, after all, flown into LAX on the same passport eight times previously without incident. Now she was being asked to raise her right hand and swear that her answers had been truthful, then was fingerprinted and photographed - every time she comes to America, her swiped passport will bring up this documentation of her rejection. As Smethurst's inked fingers were rolled onto the government form, she noticed its heading:

 

"Criminal."

 

Eventually she was escorted under armed guard to a pay phone to make the call she vainly believed would clear everything up and allow her to stay in the country. Then, while conversations were occurring among her husband, editor and consul officers in L.A., Smethurst's baggage was thoroughly searched and a makeup bag temporarily confiscated. She was then handcuffed and marched through the airport to another terminal, where LAX's main detention center is located.

 

After the phone call she pleaded for food, having now been away from home nearly 24 hours. Smethurst offered money for a snack to be brought to her - French fries, potato chips, anything - but was refused.

 

"Would it be possible to get a cup of tea?" she asked. This too was denied, because it could be used as a weapon - someone, it was explained, had recently thrown hot coffee into an agent's face. When she requested a cup of cold tea, she was similarly refused, although no one could explain to her how a cup of cold water could become weaponized.

 

Finally, around 6 p.m., a "detention meal" was pulled from a fridge, consisting of an orange, fruit-box drink and a roll that, Smethurst says, "I could play golf with."

 

For a while she sat in the main detention center, unable to eat the food, as eight armed guards watched TV. Then one of the staff returned with a bag of takeout and began eating a hamburger and fries in front of her.

 

"At that stage," she says, "I just lost the plot completely and threw the roll into the bin in front of me with sheer, utter frustration."

 

The CBP would later call this gesture a "tantrum"; Smethurst, in turn, claims that she was thoroughly body searched by female staff each time she was moved from one part of LAX to another, and that she broke down in tears several times, swearing to her captors that she was not a criminal, had done nothing wrong and should be allowed in the country. She also says one sympathetic staff member told her she'd simply had bad luck in getting the agent she did at the first customs station, since the I-Visa rule was enforced at the discretion of agents. Smethurst could have entered the country by simply declaring herself a tourist on her traveler's form - a routine practice among reporters entering the U.S.

 

Eventually, Smethurst's release was won by the Consul General's Office. The consulate also gained one other concession - the cup of tea she'd begged for. It was prepared by a senior CBP official whom Smethurst thought was the kindest American she'd met that day.

 

"It was the best cup of tea I'd ever had," she says. I didn't waste a drop."

Bin Laden, as powerful as he certainly is in his own right, does not, however, have the power to cause the United States Air Defenses to "stand down" and "delay" during the aircraft hijackings and subsequent attacks. That kind of power could only come from "within" the United States and would take enormous amounts of money to plan 9-11 and to guarantee the cooperation and silence of the many players and participants, at whatever levels of their respective operations. And where does that kind of money come from?

 

9-11 was funded via four sources.

 

1. The red-hot ponzi-schemed stock market of the latter 90's during the Clinton years. While people and institutions across America were regurgitating "it's the economy, stupid" (a favorite Clinton-era saying) to each other, billions were skimmed, sometimes outright stolen, from their investment portfolios (as well as from foreign investors, too). We know the stories, as they have since been reported in the news. Billions "lost" became billions "earned" somewhere else. Paper trails and computer records may be difficult to find now, but not impossible.

 

2. The Y2K fiasco. The infamous Y2K bug was real. A real nightmare could have happened. Billions worldwide were spent on the eradication of the bug. Amongst the reality, however, was all too much hype, distortions, and outright lies by those who stood to gain handsomely by selling new computers and software to the frightened and gullible. Again, billions spent became billions earned.

 

3. The California / western U.S. energy crisis of 2000-2001. The western U.S. was held hostage by a handful of energy companies, who extorted billions from those who could ill afford it. Businesses went out of business. People died. President Bush was not concerned at the time (which should be a clue) - "let the free market reign" was his attitude. Cheney was holding secret "energy meetings" with the likes of Enron, etc, the records of which were sealed under "national security" (which should be another clue).

 

If Enron made billions from hijacking the West, then where did all their money go, that they had to file bankruptcy (another clue)?

 

Perhaps some of their ill-gotten mammon was spent on the murder of their high-level in-the-loop employee Cliff Baxter. Or, perhaps, it was a "black bag" operation, as in CIA/MIC, made to look like a "suicide". Nevertheless, Baxter, like Vince Foster before him (during the Clinton era), knew too much, was too ethical, and was about to testify before Congress. Cliff's testimony could have halted the countdown to 9-11.

 

4. As military bases were being mothballed during the Clinton years, supposedly billions were being "saved", only to be "spent" elsewhere, on elaborate futuristic defense projects, where there is little accountability in how much is being spent and on what. Which is a perfect "cover" for "black ops" projects, such as funding for pre-9-11.

 

9-11 took billions to pull off. Many people, at various levels of operations, knowing or unknowingly, domestic or foreign, had to be "paid" to make it all happen. Some, unfortunately, unwilling to "play ball", were "silenced" forever.

 

In looking back at the Kennedy era, President Kennedy had begun troop withdrawals from Vietnam, with the intended goal of getting out of that ugly mess before it got uglier. And there was the Bay of Pigs fiasco. For these and many other reasons, Jack, and years later Bobby, were assassinated. When Johnson came to power as President, the MIC/CIA got its Vietnam war back. As is now public knowledge, the Gulf of Tonkin incident was "staged" for Johnson to justify before Congress and the American people the escalation of the war. It seemed like an "endless war on Communism" (as in Bush's "endless war on terrorism"). In the end, the deaths of 58,000 U.S. soldiers were but chump change for the billions made by the MIC/CIA in their blood-for-money war.

 

We can also look back to Pearl Harbor of WWII. Or the Maine. Or the Lusitania. Or the Civil War. Many examples exist where things were "staged" for an intended result, by those treasonous U.S. citizens in power and position who would benefit. And it's no secret anymore that major U.S. corporations traded with Nazi Germany during WWII while at the same time we were fighting them, or that major U.S. banks and investment houses invested Nazi funds to keep their war machine going (one such investor was none other than Prescott Bush). War is very profitable, when it doesn't ravage your own borders.

 

So, who would benefit from 9-11? With the U.S. economy teetering towards collapse during 2001, with military bases having been and still being mothballed, with defense contractors laying off thousands, with secret trade deals with Red China that gave away many strategic assets, with a proposed oil pipeline on hold and the drug trade almost wiped out because of the Taliban in Afghanistan, with sweet crude almost sitting idle in Iraq because of the post - Gulf War I trade sanctions, with several nations either having dumped the dollar and converted to the Euro or considering to do so, and a host of other reasons, there was ample rationale for another "Pearl Harbor".

 

The deaths of 2700+ U.S. citizens (via the felling of the Twin Towers) was but nickel-and-dime for what would be gained by the conspirators - oil, drugs, and continued world dominance of Federal Reserve Notes as the world's reserve and oil-exchange currency.

 

Again, who would benefit from 9-11? Many people in positions of power and influence, in government, corporations, defense contractors, banks, oil companies, those in Cheney's secret energy meetings, the Federal Reserve, etc. You only need follow the "money trail", especially those who stood to gain on the stock market in the days and moments prior to 9-11. Billions were made on 9-11, as the towers fell, thousands died, and the stock market slid.

 

And with the recent revelations of the mutual funds' fiascos, where billions have been stolen from investors, as well as Rumsfeld's plans to close more military bases in order to "save" billions, it should be obvious via the above analysis that another 9-11 is being put into operation by the same players who will benefit from the results of another such event. And if Bush runs into trouble in regaining the presidency in 2004, another 9-11 will precede the elections so he can declare himself president until the crisis is over, ie, "president-for-life".

 

The parallels between pre-Nazi Germany to Nazi Germany, and pre-"9-11" America to "9-11" America, are striking. Hitler may have been defeated, but Nazism has lived on in, and has finally conquered, the "land of the free and home of the brave". It has been widely believed by many that Saddam was a CIA/MIC puppet. It was "piggy-backed" upon the Hepatitis vaccine, which was given to black Africans during that time. Then the AIDS crisis exploded, and now threatens massive deaths across the African continent, and has spread around the world.

 

The CIA/MIC has a long history of testing bio-war agents on various peoples of the world, as well as on its own citizens here in the U.S. (Do a Google on MKULTRA. Also, West Nile - another "weaponized" virus - has spread across America like wildfire. And now, a flu "epidemic" has spread like wildfire. Coincidence? Or planned?) War presents an excellent opportunity to "field test" new agents. Troops can be "vaccinated", and then later "tested" on the open battlefield.

 

By 1989, the CIA/MIC, as part of the greater World Intelligence Community Covert Alliance (WICCA), needed a "field test". With Saddam's cooperation - as a puppet, of course - 5000 nobody-would-ever-miss people were gassed. It was a success.

 

A more comprehensive test was needed. So Saddam, being duped by United States' double-talk, invaded Kuwait, and Gulf War I ensued. U.S. troops, being a good cross-section of the American population, were "vaccinated" and sent off to battle, only to be exposed to "bio-chemical" agents. Thousands came down with what has been named "Gulf War Syndrome". While the DOD has consistently denied any culpability, many Gulf War vets have died.

 

As vets have been reporting their illnesses to the VAs across the country in the years that have followed, the CIA/MIC have been tabulating the results. With these results, along with further "mini-tests" based upon these results, a new generation of bio-geneti-chemical agents have been modeled on super-computers, and are now being field tested in the current Gulf War.

The United States is the only nation on earth with enough "armed" Patriots to repel a hostile takeover attempt by our government, or any foreign government, or the New World Order, as a "right" guaranteed by the Second Amendment. Leaders of the country's most prominent ultra-Orthodox yeshiva are scrambling to distance themselves from a book by one of their disciples, which argues that gentiles are "completely evil" and Jews constitute a separate, genetically superior species.

 

Written by Rabbi Saadya Grama - an alumnus of Beth Medrash Govoha, the renowned yeshiva in Lakewood, N.J. - the self-published book attempts to employ classical Jewish sources in defense of a race-based theory of Jewish supremacy.

 

Grama's book, published in Hebrew under the title "Romemut Yisrael Ufarashat Hagalut," includes flowery endorsements from the most revered religious scholars at the renowned Lakewood yeshiva, including the institution's foremost religious leader, or rosh yeshiva, Rabbi Aryeh Malkiel Kotler.

 

In his book, Grama writes: "The difference between the people of Israel and the nations of the world is an essential one. The Jew by his source and in his very essence is entirely good. The goy, by his source and in his very essence is completely evil. This is not simply a matter of religious distinction, but rather of two completely different species."

 

Among other things, Grama argues: The differences between Jews and gentiles are not religious, historical, cultural or political. They are, rather, racial, genetic and scientifically unalterable. The one group is at its very root and by natural constitution "totally evil" while the other is "totally good." ; Jewish successes in the world are completely contingent upon the failure of all other peoples. Only when the gentiles face total catastrophe do the Jews experience good fortune.

 

Grama's full-blown racialist theories appear to break new ground, building on a handful of hints of national and racial chauvinism occasionally found in the writings of a few earlier rabbinic figures, but combining them into a racialist doctrine with no precedent in rabbinic literature.

 

To be sure, a minority stream exists in the rabbinic tradition - from the 11th- and 12th-century Hebrew romantic poet Yehuda Halevy to the 18th century chasidic sage Levi Yitzhak of Berditchev - which sees the differences between Jew and gentile as innate, rather than merely religious.

 

Perhaps the most extreme version of this view is found in the central text of Chabad chasidism, Tanya, whose author, Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Lyadi, Chabad's founder, maintained that Jewish and gentile souls are fundamentally different, the former "divine" and the latter "animalistic." That viewpoint has gained ground in recent decades, particularly among charedi thinkers.

 

Rabbi Yitzhak Ginsburgh, who is considered one of the leading ideologues of the Israeli Chabad movement, has written and spoken widely on the superiority of Jews and was briefly imprisoned in Israel for racial incitement.

Richard Humphreys appealed his three-year sentence, saying his comment was protected by free speech rights. He was convicted in 2002 of threatening to kill or harm the president.

 

The court found Humphreys suffers from bipolar disorder, and should serve his confinement in a federal medical center.

 

Humphreys says he got into a barroom discussion with a truck driver a day before Bush's March 2001 visit to Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

 

A bartender who overheard the conversation told police that Humphreys talked about a "burning Bush" and the possibility of someone setting Bush on fire.

The Concept "Jew" in Nazi German "Race" Legislation

According to DLRSJ 1(1) a "Jew" is a person:
a) who adheres to the Jewish faith,
b) whose parents or all grandparents adhered to the Mosaic faith,
even if they or some of them later abandoned the Mosaic faith,
c) who is a descendant of those named under a) and b) (Ibid., p.42).

DLRSJ 1(2) also ruled that children having one Jewish parent as defined by DLRSJ 1(1) are "half-Jews", "as long as they do not adhere to the Jewish faith" (when they would become "full Jews" in law) (Ibid., p. 42).

The concept "Jew" as actually applied later in Nazi legislation commenced with the definition of "non-Aryan" in the First Implementation Decree of the Law for the Re-establishment of the Professional Civil Service (April 11, 1933). The relevant section reads, "A person who is descended from non-Aryan, especially Jewish, parents or grandparents, is regarded as non-Aryan. It suffices if one parent or grandparents (sic) adhere to the Jewish religion" (Ibid., p. 42).

The definitive definition of "Jew" in Nazi law is found in the First Regulation to the Reich Citizenship Law (FRRCL), section 5, para. 1 - "A Jew is a person who is a descendant of at least three racially fully Jewish grandparents" (November 14, 1935). However, FRRCL, section 2, para. 2 ruled that, "A grandparent is without question fully Jewish if he or she belonged to the Jewish religious community". According to FRRCL, section 5, para. 2(a) a "half-Jew" descended from two fully Jewish grandparents is also regarded as a Jew if, "at the time of the promulgation of the law he belonged to the Jewish religious community or afterwards joined it" (Ibid. pp. 42-43).

Clearly Nazi antisemitism was not based on biological "race" but on the religion of one's grandparents, parents or in some cases, one's own religion. The religion in question is, of course, Judaism. This is not the same as claiming that the Nazis did not think that their antisemitism was based on "race". It is quite typical of racist "thought" to claim that a person's culture is determined by his/her "race". Presumably in racist "thinking" this makes adherence to Judaism a legitimate "marker" of "Jewish race" membership. It was just this notion that the word "racism" was first coined to describe in 1933 (Banton, M. "Racial Consciousness", Longman, 1988).
