Jeffrey Battle understood the importance of the Patriot Act. Listen to the recorded conversation between Battle and an FBI informant on May 8, 2002. In a conversation unsealed in court, Battle explained why his enterprise was not as organized as he thought it should have been (quote):

". . . because we don't have support. Everybody's scared to give up any money to help us. You know what I'm saying? Because that law that Bush wrote about, you know, supporting terrorism, whatever, the whole thing ... Everybody's scared ... He made a law that says for instance I left out of the country and I fought, right, but I wasn't able to afford a ticket but you bought my plane ticket, you gave me the money to do it… By me going and me fighting and doing what they can, by this new law, they can come and take you and put you in jail."

Just a few days ago, Iyman Faris, an Ohio truck driver, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for providing material support to Al Qaeda and for conspiring to provide the terrorist organization with information about possible U.S. targets for attack.

The Faris case shows just how law enforcement and intelligence can work hand in hand to protect national security after the PATRIOT Act. Intelligence helped us to identify and locate Faris. Law enforcement secured his cooperation, and we then brought criminal charges against him in an Article III court. In the process, Faris not only pleaded guilty, but he provided valuable information and corroborated intelligence from Al Qaeda detainees about potential terrorist operations, including some in the United States.

ATTORNEY General John Ashcroft vowed Friday that the Justice Department would continue its fight against anti-Semitism and terrorism.

"This administration believes that acts of anti-Semitism must be confronted, condemned and denounced," Ashcroft said in a keynote address at the Anti-Defamation League's national meeting. "As history shows, verbal attacks on the Jewish people are portends of more savage criminality to come," he added.

Ashcroft credited the ADL for standing up to hatred and bigotry and urged all Americans to do the same. "In this battle, every voice and every hand is needed to triumph over terrorism," he said. "It requires us to speak out in America for our highest values and to take our battle to the terrorists abroad."

Ashcroft touted his department's efforts at battling terrorism, saying terrorist cells across America have been dismantled. The Justice Department has charged 286 people with terrorism-related offenses, and has secured convictions or guilty pleas from 154 people.

More than $200 million of funds from organizations suspected of supporting terror has been seized and two-thirds of al-Qaida senior operatives have been captured or killed, Ashcroft told about 450 people gathered at the Plaza Hotel.

Ashcroft added that his department has not overlooked bias crimes committed against people of Middle Eastern descent. Since Sept. 11, Ashcroft said federal officials have investigated more than 525 incidents involving violence or threats of violence against people perceived to be of Middle Eastern origin.

"The Justice Department has assisted in 120 local prosecutions," he said. "And we have brought federal charges in 13 cases against 18 defendants."

Ashcroft also spoke at length about the benefits of the USA Patriot Act, passed overwhelmingly by Congress after Sept. 11.

It greatly expanded the government's surveillance and detention powers, and the attorney general said without the legislation, some people indicted for terrorism-related offenses might not have been detected by officials.

Ashcroft spoke on the second day of the three-day conference, celebrating the ADL's 90th anniversary.

The ADL was founded in 1913 by Chicago lawyer Sigmund Livingston, who saw a need for an organization to protect Jews from anti-Semitic acts. Abraham Foxman, [see panels at left] the ADL's national director, praised Ashcroft and President Bush for their efforts in fighting anti-Semitism.

Scofield brings along the psychopathic tendency:  In a critique of Scofield's Reference Bible and other manifestations of fundamentalism, the modernist Protestant Christian author Bruce Bawer wrote (in Stealing Jesus, 1997):

Upon his release from prison, Scofield deserted his first wife, Leonteen Carry Scofield, and his two daughters Abigail and Helen, and he took as his mistress a young girl from the St. Louis Flower Mission.  He later abandoned her for Helen van Ward, whom he eventually married.  Following his Illuminati connections to New York, he settled in at the Lotus Club, which he listed as his residence for the next twenty years.  It was here that he presented his ideas for a new Christian Bible concordance, and was taken under the wing of Samuel Untermeier, who later became chairman of the American Jewish Committee, president of the American League of Jewish Patriots, and chairman of the Non-sectarian Anti-Nazi League.

Untermeier introduced Scofield to numerous Zionist and socialist leaders, including Samuel Gompers, Fiorello LaGuardia, Abraham Straus, Bernard Baruch and Jacob Schiff. These were the people who financed Scofield's research trips to Oxford and arranged the publication and distribution of his concordance.

At this same link, Patru also documents an incident in which Untermeier was able to blackmail US President Harry Truman to influence him to appoint the Zionist judge Brandeis to the Supreme Court.  The story is credited to The Hidden Tyranny, by Benjamin H. Freedman.

A grand plan?  This story --  the creation of a politically malevolent, theologically fraudulent, and tremendously popular and influential  new religion --  has the appearance of a grand conspiracy operating across continents and over a time span of a century.  Initiated by a Jesuit masquerading as a Jew, the plot gets an endorsement from the world of occulted spiritualism, crosses the Atlantic and takes root in America, and becomes a major propaganda darling of Zionist and American industrialist interests.

The group has set up a petition that can be signed online. The petition states:

So that you'll understand why I regard the institution of the presidency as one of the the "three pillars" at the base of the "great edifice", I'll once again turn to the text of the "Protocols", the universal wisdom of which you, I hope, have already begun to attain to. And at the same time you'll have yet another opportunity to convince yourself that Chabad's tactics don't deviate one iota from the strategic plans formulated by the "Zionist elders":

Today it's become an already obvious fact that the fates of the Ukrainian and Russian peoples have wound up in the hands of "faceless creatures", obedient "slaves" of their Khazar masters, who can be brought to power and dismissed at their whim. In this regard only Belarus has been spared, though it seemed until recently that Russia, might end up in the ranks of the lucky ones. By now, however, it's absolutely clear that she, too, has shared in the Ukraine's "presidential" fate.

Inasmuch as I've dedicated many pages in my books to describing the personal contribution of the Ukrainian President to the business of construction of the Third Khazaria, I'll limit myself this time to discussing the activities of another "good goy", Vladimir Putin.

...I first heard about the current President of Russia Vladimir Putin during an official visit to Israel in 1997.

By invitation of the Israeli Foreign Ministry, I, along with then Vice-Governor of Kharkov Oblast Leonid Stasevsky, visited Israel as part of the "Program for Economic Cooperation" between our countries. A busy programme of events awaited us, most of which was dedicated to numerous meetings with representatives of Israel's political and economic elite. Among them was a planned meeting with the President of the New Entrepreneurs' Association of Israel, Radoshkovich. At that time former Leningrad emigrant Yitzak Radoshkovich had already become a heavyweight figure not only in his own country, but, according to rumors, in the corridors of the World Bank as well.

Our meeting, during the course of which the matter of various investment projects in the Kharkov region was discussed, was extremely official in nature. The same can't be said about a second meeting with Radoshkovich with whom we, upon returning to the Ukraine, found ourselves in the same airplane. For the entire length of the flight from Tel-Aviv to Kiev we chatted on various topics. And in the course of our chat he mentioned in passing that his second cousin Vladimir Putin had great prospects for advancement in the Russian political elite... [Rumors of Putin's possible Jewish ancestry have long circulated in Russian patriotic circles. Putin's mother's maiden name was "Shelomova", a Jewish-sounding name. This is the first hard confirmation I've seen in print of Putin having a Jewish relative, however. -- Editor]

By August of 1999 I saw with my own eyes the result of the dizzying career of the theretofore unknown Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. Let's refresh our memories on the chronology:

• August 1999.  Appointed prime-minister of the Russian Federation;
• January 2000.  Appointed Acting President of the Russian Federation;
• March 2000.  Elected President of the Russian Federation.

To what, or rather to whom, was Russia indebted for her "successor to the throne" in the form of Vladimir Putin? We all know to whom -- to Boris Abramovich Berezovsky, who built up this new pretender to Russia's "presidential throne" in record time.

The indomitable Boris Abramovich searched long and hard for a potential "successor". He took his time... You see, the "successor" would be obligated to preserve Family traditions and guarantee "Tsar Boris" complete immunity after his "abdication". ["The Family" refers not just to Yeltsin and his extended family, but the network of criminal-oligarchic clans tied to "Russia's First President". -- Editor] What's more, Yeltsin's "successor" would have to be a paragon of health and youth, in order to differ advantageously from his aged, but very popular rival, Yevgeny Primakov, and also possess the required ethnic characteristics for the Russian "throne", while at the same time being "one of his own" for Berezovsky. [In other words, of mixed Russian-Jewish parentage. -- Editor] Yes, it was no mean assignment, and Abramovich coped with it successfully -- an ideal "successor" was found.

However, much to BAB's annoyance, presidential "elections" also presuppose the participation of the the people. [BAB -- Boris Abramovich Berezovsky. -- Editor] Therefore it was necessary to popularize the new pretender to the throne in the shortest possible time and force the people to believe in its love for Berezovsky's "chosen one". The inventive Boris Abramovich solved this problem, too. With the Second Chechen War...

By September, 1999, when the second "Chechen campaign" was just picking up momentum, Aslan Maskhadov [the then leader of "independent Chechnya" -- Editor] announced in an interview in the newspaper "Moskovsky Komsomolets": "...This war was provoked by Berezovsky. ...the war was planned long ago... One needs to search for its causes above all in Moscow -- that's where the dirty political games are taking place around the question of who will become [Yeltsin's] successor...".

After the successful completion of the presidential campaign according to Berezovsky's scenario, BAB's "sponsorship" turned out to be too compromising for the new Russian President, behind whose back more and more dissatisfied murmurs on this score could be heard. When "pragmatic politician" Vladimir Putin declared war on Jewish oligarchs Berezovsky and Gusinsky, loud and prolonged applause erupted from the increasingly joyful public. [We must confess that we applauded too. Now we're older and wiser. -- Editor] The Russian President acquired the reputation of an "uncompromising but fair" strongman.

No one guessed that behind Putin's "strong-willed" decision stood someone else's invisible will, subjugating yet another "faceless creature", whose only (and very dubious) virtue was his so-called "healthy pragmatism".

The real reason for the President's "raid" on the best representatives of Russia's Jewish oligarchical circles was the "strong-willed" decision of Chabad, which was able in this way to get rid of the "overly-active" Gusinsky and Berezovsky.

What had these two done to anger Chabad? In Berezovsky's case we can find the answer in the publication with which we're already acquainted in the "Jewish Observer", which provoked today's discussion on the theme of the "Protocols of the Elders of Zion". I'll cite the answer of Bishop Kirill, Metropolitan of Smolensk and Kaliningrad, to the question he was asked concerning the "hero" now under discussion.

"...Regarding Boris Abramovich I must say the following. When I was visiting with the representative of Israeli President Netanyahu, who was in Moscow at the time, about the conflict between Gusinsky and Berezovsky which was shaking the foundations of public life, I asked him: "Couldn't Israel somehow get involved -- after all they're your people?" To this Netanyahu's aide answered: "Excuse me. Gusinsky is ours, but Berezovsky's yours." Apparently he was referring to Berezovsky's baptism in the Orthodox Church..."

So by becoming a "Christian", Boris Abramovich Berezovsky ceased being "one of his own", and acquired the official status of vykrest (convert from Judaism), as such "refuseniks" are called in Jewish circles. And this was the main mistake of the "unsinkable" BAB, who this time had outfoxed himself.

[I think there's an even more obvious explanation. Gusinsky and Berezovsky, whose personal feud was being played out on the TV screens all over the nation on the channels which they controlled, NTV and ORT, had simply become an embarrassment for the Jewish power structure. The feud brought the reality of Jewish power out into the open, which is a big "no-no", of course. I remember well ORT's exposés of Gusinsky's dubious activities in the Russian Jewish Congress, and how surprised everyone was that Berezovsky, a Jew, would resort to such tactics to compromise his opponent. -- Editor]

Having placed his bets on Orthodoxy, as the dominant religion in Russia, where he counted, and not without foundation, on receiving full "moral and material" satisfaction, Boris Abramovich was at the same time unwilling to part with the Jewish "course of development" where his own all-Russian business was concerned. Therefore the newly-baked Christian Berezovsky, relying on his "chosen" ethnicity, decided to simultaneously "make a splash" in Jewish religious circles.

But he forgot to take one thing into account: the uncompromising Chabad, which had created the religious Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia (FEOR), whose establishment BAB had actively helped enable by donating imposing sums for its development, doesn't forgive "heretics", mercilessly ridding itself of them, and filling the resulting vacancies with new figures from among its own "proper" Jews.

Here it would be appropriate to mention the advice received by the hero of an old Odessa anecdote in the banya, which I earlier cited in The Jewish Syndrome 2-1/2: "Ivan Abramich, either take that cross off your neck or put on your shorts". So Boris Abramovich, when he put on his cross, should have just kept his shorts on...

The second Jewish oligarch who suffered, as all then thought, from the "uncompromising but fair" President Putin was Berezovsky's main rival in "unsinkability", Vladimir Alexandrovich Gusinsky. What was Gusinsky guilty of in the eyes of Chabad? You see, he, unlike "Bereza", had remained "one of his own". Well, one of his own, it's true, but an "incorrect" Jew nonetheless.

In 1996, on the initiative of the former head rabbi of the USSR, Adolf Shayevich, Vladimir Gusinsky founded the Russian Jewish Congress (REK), a "secular" organization representing the interests of "assimilated" Jewry and oriented, if one can express oneself thusly, toward the idea of "Western Zionism". That powerful structure, with its broad ties to the West, was the main competitor of Chabad and its brainchild, FEOR, in the battle for influence on Russian Jewry, and most importantly, in its battle for the Kremlin. So both sides undertook decisive "military action".

Still fresh in our memories are the "head-on" TV attacks, where "Gus" (Gusinsky), the official head of REK, and "Bereza" (Berezovsky), the underground "sponsor" of FEOR (Chabad), locked horns.

By placing at its disposal "heavy artillery" in the form of BAB, a "Family" member, Chabad in effect secured the support of the "Family" in deciding the "Jewish question" in its favor.

The following fact is extremely telling in this regard: In November 2000 the founding convention of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia (FEOR) took place in Moscow. At this event, the Chabad rabbi Berl Lazar, who is now Head Rabbi of Russia and the CIS, was elected to lead the organization. Five hours after Lazar's election the chairman of REK Vladimir Gusinsky was arrested and taken to Butyrskaya Prison...

By provoking Gusinsky and Berezovsky into mutual conflict, but remaining all the while in the shadows, Chabad "killed two birds with one stone" by discrediting Russia's main "incorrect" Jews, whose protracted feud was beginning to seriously destabilize the whole country.

The events of that time were very neatly summed up by Viktor Chernomyrdin, who with his usual bluntness announced: "Two Jews fight, and all of Russia trembles." True, this commentary relates only to the visible side of the conflict. A more accurate characteristic of what happened can be given by rephrasing the well-known "anti-semitic" saying: "Two Jews, the third one a Yid, sit there quietly"...

Having "sat there quietly" for the required length of time, Chabad began to call on Russia's head "pragmatist" to deliver long-suffering Russia from the Jewish troublemakers, from whom allegedly issued the "main threat" not only to Russian Jewry, but to the peace and quiet of the country as a whole.

Lending his ear to Chabad's wisdom, Vladimir Putin begins the process of "deliverance of long-suffering Russia" from the annoying duo, and thankfully plenty of pretexts for this were at hand: accusations of corruption, tax evasion, unlawful business practices, and so on and so forth. Only the method used to punish the subjects found guilty of the above crimes was completely non-standard: instead of the obvious solution of arrest and imprisonment, both "Gus" and "Bereza" were magnanimously allowed to leave Russia -- along with their stolen wealth!

Such "super-healthy pragmatism" on the part of the Russian President speaks volumes... This isn't Stalin for you, who reaped only dividends from the expulsion of Trotsky and the Lubavitcher Rebbe: ridding of Russia from its two "main" Jews and the solid boost to the national treasury resulting from their ransom.

Vladimir Putin "did his best" for Russia even more: he not only rid her, long-suffering Rus, of the Jewish "plague", but also a) effectively put an end to the schism within Russian Jewry, by placing the latter in Chabad's reliable hands; b) expelled two Jewish "troublemakers" from the Kremlin "Politburo", replacing them with the super-quiet Chabad; and c) contributed humanitarian aid to the West in the form of the Beryoza-Gus billions, thus boosting Russia's image as a rich and generous country... And the main thing: by releasing two of the Jews who have bled Russia dry in the past decade, Putin cleared the Russian people of any accusations of anti-semitism and raised its prestige in the eyes of the whole "civilized" world! Take that, Joseph Vissarionovich!

From that time on, Putin has been the loyal friend of Chabad and always follows its quiet, wise advice. As the Jewish press glowingly reports, Putin invites the Chabad rabbis to the Kremlin a minimum of once a month and queries them in detail about the mood of the Jewish community in Russia;

On the 7th of February Russian President Vladimir Putin received the Head Rabbi of Russia (FEOR) Berl Lazar in the Kremlin. ...As Berl Lazar reported, the Russian President was extremely interested in questions concerning the life of Russia's Jewish community...

In Berl Lazar's opinion, the president was interested to find out that at present Jews feel much freer in Russia, that they can make the decision of whether to stay or whether to leave freely, inasmuch as they feel support from the government...

...But the main thing, in Rabbi Lazar's opinion, is that "the President has a healthy understanding of Russia's future and the role of religion in society."

On the 19th of March the President of Russia Vladimir Putin met with representatives of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia in the Kremlin...

...Putin spoke of how important it is to set up a "unsurmountable barrier" to xenophobia and religious extremism, and noted the Jewish people's contribution to Russian affairs. The President spoke about the address of the Jewish community of Russia to the USA on the matter of repeal of the Jackson-Vanik amendment, after which the "process is developing positively"...

President of the Federation of Jewish Communities of the CIS and Chairman of the FEOR oversight committee Lev Leviev was also present at the Kremlin meeting, [along with] ...rabbis from a number of Russian cities.

With regard to the last quote I must add that all of those "rabbis from a number of Russian cities", to the very last one, are Chabad's people, and the group of respected guests of the Kremlin was headed by the "wise mentor" with whom we're already acquainted, the "super-quiet" Berl Lazar.

Since I know personally the "Head Rabbi of Russia and CIS Countries", one of the most highly-active carriers of "Zionist wisdom" and "head foremen" in the construction of the Third Khazaria, I can't fail to give Berl Lazar his due for his diplomatic and sleight-of-hand abilities and for going practically unnoticed as he jerks the strings of the "goy marionettes", setting them into their "unnatural motion". What's more, this Lubavitcher werewolf is a master of the art of "official language" and "nimbly-constructed phraseology".

So that you too can fully appreciate the supreme mastery of the "head" Chabad polyglot, I'll relate to you what Rabbi Lazar said in a televised chat on Gusinsky's former channel, NTV, with Savik Schuster, host of the program "Hero of the Day". [Schuster, a Jew and long-time former employee of US State Department-funded "Radio Liberty", is now NTV's main political talk-show host. -- Editor]

Berl Lazar began his monologue with his traditional reverence in the direction of President Putin, who, in his words, possesses such remarkable qualities as "confident pragmatism" and "a healthy understanding of the question of Russia's future", which, in turn, is the guarantee of the well-being and prosperity of the country's Jewish community. Then the discussion turned to matters of trade, business, petitioning the American administration for the repeal of the "Jackson-Vanik amendment", and even to the rabbi's intention of influencing the US oil lobby with the intention of re-orienting it towards Russia...

Listening patiently to these business projects which, as it turns out, are all part of the Jewish community's sphere of "vital interests", I waited and waited for the religious leader of Russian Jewry, the Head Rabbi of Russia and the CIS, to say at least one word about God or the soul. As it turned out I waited in vain...

Can you imagine a representative of the Orthodox Christian clergy sitting in front of the TV camera, giving a "sermon" about business strategy and the advantages resulting from one or another deal?... So we have a strange situation: While the Orthodox Church calls its flock to humility, kindness, cleansing of the soul and the service of God, Chabad "chosen people" in black hats boast pragmatically of their business deals concluded on the bones of humble Orthodox Christians. How right Emmanuel Kant was, when he said: "In the absence of morals God is a monster...".

A word or two about the aforementioned "business projects": I hope you remember what happened to the rabbi's promises to help repeal the "Jackson-Vanik amendment" introduced in 1973 to "punish" the Soviet Union for limiting Jewish emigration and in accordance with which the USA set up a range of trade barriers against the USSR. That's right, nothing happened. And Bush's "long-awaited" visit, to which the amendment's repeal was supposed to be timed, ended with the introduction of yet another "amendment" which created additional limitations, this time on "strategic offensive arms". Without doubt, one has to possess especially "pragmatic" views to see any advantage for Russia in all of this...

Having paid an incommensurately high price of a new "amendment" for the repeal of the old one, President Putin was allowed the "honor" of calling himself Bush's "friend", and even received from his new "comrade-in-farewell-to-arms" the playful sobriquet "Pootie-Poot" as a token of special consideration. Before this moment only Gorbachev had succeeded in rising so high in the eyes of the "world community" by being worthy of the chummy nickname "Gorby".

Apparently it was no tragedy that the problem of the "emigration" of American chicken legs had replaced that of the emigration of Russian Jews. The main thing is that friendship triumphed!

And while Pootie-Poot, with his characteristic pragmatism, is thinking up new ways to sell off Russia's "best interests", the Jacksons and Vanicks of the world will be busy thinking up new reasons to keep Russia "on the hook" with more and more of their "amendments". There can be no doubt the the latest of Chabad's "initiatives", including the current "oil initiative" will end no less "advantageously"...

And one more detail, with which that very same NTV acquainted its viewers. In a March meeting in the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin congratulated those present on a significant date: the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Seventh Lubavitcher Rebbe Menachem Mendel Schneerson, King-Messiah for the ages! I think no comment is necessary here.

The next publication I wish to cite, however, will require some commentary to help you to fully comprehend just what sort of guests the Russian Head of State with his strenuously-cultivated "in-control" image is welcoming to the Kremlin.

I'm referring to an article published in the Odessa magazine "Passazh", and dedicated to the President of the Federation of Jewish Communities of the CIS States and chairman of the FEOR oversight committee Lev Leviev. This true "hatchling" from the Chabad nest, who openly demonstrates his ultra-Orthodox fanaticism, is one of the new "heroes of the day" who've arrived to replace yesterday's "incorrect" oligarchs, and obligatorily figures in all of Chabad's "get-togethers" with the presidents of Russia and the Ukraine. By the way, you've already seen him in the photographs with the captions "good goys", where he's standing on the right hand of both "correct" presidents, apparently to signify the "special services" rendered by this Chabad oligarch to the Orthodox Christian states...

One of Lev Leviev's "special services" consists of his "super-quiet" entry into Russia's diamond mining industry, where Chabad is now pumping out diamonds from the "rich and generous" land. In light of this fact, the title of a "Passazh" article entitled "Secrets of Diamond Lev" looks especially symbolic. I'll cite a few of its high points.

...We met..., when Leviev flew to Odessa from Kiev. In the Ukrainian capital the President of the Federation of Jewish Communities of the CIS States and a group of Ukrainian rabbis were received by President Kuchma...

...Leviev said much of interest and edification on this celebratory evening to those gathered in the synagogue on Ulitsa Osipova. He spoke of the respect with which he was received by the Ukrainian government, which expressed serious interest in Jews taking an ever more active role in the public and economic life of the country. We should note that this exhortation was addressed specifically to one person: the head of GKL (the "Leviev Company Group"), president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Israel, Russia, and the CIS Countries. A man who enjoys great trust and authority not only in business circles, but among the leaders of world powers, including Russian President Vladimir Putin...

As you can see, Lev Leviev's regular visits to Kiev and Moscow have borne fruit, guaranteeing "serious interest" of both the Ukrainian and Russian leadership in Jews' "active role in the public and economic life" of these countries. What's more, the supra-national "presidential" status of Leviev, who heads the Federation of Jewish Communities of the CIS States, allows him not only to speak with the presidents of giant Slavic states as equals, but guarantees that "Diamond Lev" enjoys their "great trust and authority". And not only he, but the group of Chabad rabbis protecting the interests of their own "correct" oligarchs. The article continues:

Here's the main thing: Lev is convinced that his life was enlightened by communion with his Teacher - the Lubavitcher Rebbe Menachem-Mendel Schneerson. And here's an example.

You must help other Jews living in the Soviet Union" And he," continues Leviev, "named all 15 republics, adding: "God willing, you'll have a business, too." Armed with this advice from the Teacher I arrived in Moscow 11 years ago and opened up two programs, one related to business and the other to helping the [Jewish] community. Today there are already 345 such organizations in the CIS, with synagogues, institutes of learning, cafeterias, libraries, and large centers... One of the most active is "Chabad Shomrei Shabos", which is run by my friend, the Head Rabbi of Odessa and the Southern Ukraine Avroom Wolf. I consider him the most successful and reliable businessman..."

Here we need to pay attention to two things. Firstly, who in the conditions of the still-communist USSR would think of opening up a private diamond business? And it's just this sort of "business-related program" which we're talking about here, because by that time Lev Leviev had already established himself in diamonds in South Africa, Angola and India... Though after reading the above article one might get the impression that "Diamond Lev", in seeking the Rebbe's advice before expanding into "Soviet" territory, was thinking about opening an atelier for the sewing of women's blouses or a small factory for the production of jar lids.

We can only draw one conclusion from the fact that Leviev received his Teacher's blessing and decided to "take the risk" after all: that by 1989 no risk existed for Chabad "businessmen" in the Soviet Union. Though within the USSR itself there were probably very few who could have guessed that... By the way, the main characteristic of Jewish national "risk" consists of just that -- of "coming out" only at such time and in such place where no one and nothing can possibly threaten the "chosen ones'" business.

And the second point. We've seen once again from this article that Chabad rabbis are able to combine, "with no qualms", active religious activity with the conduct of "successful and reliable business projects". I wonder how relations have developed between these rabbi-businessmen and local fiscal organs? Maybe a special paragraph has been introduced into the Tax Code entitled "Rabbinical business"? Or maybe the business deals of the Chabad rabbinate are handled by the Committee for Religious Matters?

And once again an involuntary comparison with the "goy priesthood", as Christian pastors are referred to in the "Protocols of the Elders of Zion", comes to mind: an Orthodox Christian priest who's simultaneously a "successful businessman" is about as easy to find as a "big-hearted" Jew...

Lev Leviev noted that although he spends large sums (even for him!) on charity, God not only returns the money, but multiplies it. The financial crisis of 1998 which shook Russia and other countries affected GKL too, of course, but his business soon recovered, receiving an income five times greater than what was lost...

I'd like to remind you that the financial crisis of 1998 happened during the premiership of the the "young reformer" Sergei Kirienko, the consequences of whose "healthy pragmatism" are still being felt by "Russia and other countries" to this day. It seems that the only one who came out the winner after "Black Tuesday" was Lev Leviev. In any case, the other lucky ones have yet to come forward.

In surprising fashion the main "guilty party" of Chabad oligarch Lev Leviev's "triumph" [the ruble default of 1998 -- Editor] avoided what by all accounts should have been the end of his political career by receiving the post of presidential representative in one of Russia's seven federal districts as a reward for his inglorious premiership. In part, the newspaper "Pravda of Moscow" (No. 98, 1998) sets forth materials published in the Israeli newspaper "Vesti" about how the branch of the Israeli Foreign Ministry in the city of Holon (a suburb of Tel-Aviv) confirmed the fact of the issuance of such ID documents to Sergei Kirienko when he was still a banker. However, after Boris Berezovsky's refusal of Israeli citizenship, Kirienko followed the oligarch's example, as did many other leading Russian businessmen and high-placed political figures. Among the more well-known "refuseniks" the newspaper mentions Chubais, Nemtsov, Urinson, Yasin, and Livshits. [Mamut is a Kremlin insider connected with Alexander Voloshin (also a Jew), head of Putin's administration. Voloshin held this post under Yelstin too, by the way. Abramovich is a Berezovsky protege, oil baron, Russia's second-richest billionaire (net worth $8 billion) and governor of the mineral-rich Chukotskaya Oblast. Rabinovich, the Ukraine's most powerful media-magnate, recently donated a massive solid-gold chandelier for the future Third Temple in Jerusalem. While we're on the subject of oligarchs: today, June 26, 2003, banking and oil magnate Mikhail Friedman signed a multi-billion dollar partnership deal with British Petroleum in London. Friedman and other members of the "business community" accompanied Putin on his visit to the British capital. -- Editor]

But let's return to our "hobby horse", that is, to the research of the personalities of the "faceless creatures", into whose hands the fates of our two great nations have been delivered.

I have to say that the Ukrainian "creature" has already proven his "facelessness" to such a degree that no one no longer nurtures any illusions as to the course along which President Kuchma is leading our country into "civilized Europe". The people reacted to its own awakening with yet another masterpiece of oral folk art, in which it created a new image of the Ukrainian President:

As they say, you can't throw out the words from a song...

As far as Russia's concerned, the situation with her "awakening" is less optimistic. In contrast to his Ukrainian colleague, the Russian President knows how to "maintain his image", and as a professional intelligence officer he's hard to crack. However... Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin has tripped over his own pragmatism.

Let's remember the brilliant beginning of the "buildup" of the Presidential image -- the "struggle" against the Jewish oligarchs, the calls to "waste" Chechen warlords "in the latrine", the building of the "strict power vertical", flights on fighter planes... The Russian people, tired of the drunken antics and open indifference of "Tsar Boris", looked to the "successor" with hope, saying: "Now at last we have a real leader! Thank God!"

But gradually the people's enthusiasm is giving way to perplexity. Before their eyes Putin's "great leader" qualities have begun to melt away, revealing the "faceless creature" of healthy pragmatism. In short, the "successor" hasn't lived up to his tsar's calling...

That can't be said of his predecessor, Yeltsin, whom the people themselves christened "Tsar Boris". Say what you will, but Yeltsin, for all his spontaneity, wildness, and pure stupidity at times, possessed far greater "leadership" qualities than the dry and absolutely faceless "pragmatic", Putin. In the end the people always feel just who's climbed onto the throne: the King of Beans, maybe, but King nonetheless. Even in a jester's cap...

As far as faceless pragmatists go, folk wisdom has honored them with appropriate nicknames. Recently I was told that a new "title" bestowed on the "successor" is gaining popularity in Moscow: "Vova Pukin" ["Vova", a nickname for "Vladimir", is used only for small children. "Pukin" comes from the verb "pukat'" -- to fart. -- Editor] In this manner, we see the "devolution" of the President of the Russian Federation: Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin - Vova Pukin - Pootie-Poot. Perhaps the next stage of the presidential career will be named "Ootie-Pootie"...

But for the time being the "successor's" career path is at the "Pootie-Poot" stage, which witnesses the unconditional acceptance by the "world community" of his special services in the area of "healthy pragmatism", and also the exact correspondence of Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin to the title of "good goy".

But while Russian people are only just beginning to ripen to their final "awakening", they've been overtaken by the Serbs, that long-suffering Slavic nation which has become the Redeeming Sacrifice for today's "pragmatism" of Mother Russia, whom they love so fiercely in spite of it all:

Goodbye, Russia. We Serbs can no longer stand with you in any sort of alliance, until you're once again able to rule yourselves, until you stop trading your allies, selling them out for pennies and empty slogans. We can't be with you until you free yourself of your anti-Slavic extremists...

The assassination of Sheikh Ahmed Yassin was everywhere in the Arab media yesterday. Arabs from all over the world are mourning his death and Saudis are no different from their brethren. The murder has become the main topic of conversation. Moreover, the photographs of the Sheikh with his head split in half and parts of his brain spilling out were forwarded to hundreds of thousands of people on the Internet.

Assassinations — or what the Western media due to Zionist pressure now ridiculously refer to as “targeted killings” — are nothing new for the Israelis. They have been going on for years. What is new is that this time the assassinated person was an elderly wheel-chair-bound individual whom the US alleged is a terrorist and “a person who has been personally involved in terrorist attacks.”

In view of the recent events -- the hijacking and saving of the hostages held in Uganda; and the subsequent attempt of the terrorists to perpetrate a vicious reprisal, G-d forbid, in Kushta (Istanbul),

It should be understood that these events are an indication that Jews must, at the earliest possible, strengthen all aspects of their security and defenses -- first and foremost in their spiritual life, which is the channel to receive G-d's blessings also in the physical aspect, namely, to know the right ways and means that have to be undertaken in the natural order of things, and to fully succeed in these efforts, in accordance with the Divine promise, "G-d, your G-d, will bless you in all that you do" -- to be protected and secured from enemies, and to be spared any undesirable happenings, G-d forbid.

The above events remind each and all of our Jewish brethren in general, and Jewish mothers and daughters in particular -- since every married Jewish woman is called Akeres Habayis, "Foundation of the Home," and those not yet married are to be Akeres Habayis, for which they must prepare themselves from tender age -- the following:

GOOD FOR GOOD

Jewish mystical teachings explain that evil has no permanence. Only good exists eternally and every good deed endures forever.

The way to fight evil, then, is with good, with everlasting and incessant good.

How much can you or I do to eradicate evil from the face of the earth, to wipe out terror and eliminate violence? Realistically speaking, how much of an impact can any one, single individual have on the entire world?

In the beginning of September, nearly four decades ago, the Rebbe addressed precisely this question in a pre High Holiday letter to Jews around the world.

"One single individual has the capacity to bring the whole of creation to fulfillment, as was the case with the first person, Adam....

"Our Sages teach us that the first person, Adam, was the prototype and example for each and every individual to follow: 'For this reason was man created as an individual in order to teach you that "one person equals a whole world," ' our Sages declared in the Mishna. (Man is only Jew, In Mishnah Torah Talmud Bavli)

This means that every Jew, regardless of time and place and personal status, has the fullest capacity, hence also duty, to rise and attain the highest degree of fulfillment, and accomplish the same for the creation as a whole.

"This disproves the contentions of those who do not fulfill their duty with the excuse that it is impossible to change the world; or that their parents had not given them the necessary education and preparation; or that the world is so huge, and one is so puny -- how can one hope to accomplish anything?

"There were times when the aforesaid idea, namely, the ability of a single individual to 'transform' the world, met with skepticism, and demanded proof.

"However, precisely in our generation, we unfortunately do not have to seek far to be convinced that one person could have such impact. We have seen how one individual brought the world to the brink of destruction, but for the mercies of the King of the Universe, Who ordained that 'the earth shall stand firm; shall not fall.' (the god, who has no son, the god of the Judeo-Churchizionians)

"If such is the case in the realm of evil, surely one's potential is much greater in the realm of good. For, in truth, creation is essentially good, and therefore more inclined toward the good than its opposite."

So what can I do to fight evil? What contribution can I make in the war against terrorism? What is my memorial to the thousands who perished last month and the millions before them? I can be good, and so can you!

  The United States is considering recognizing Israeli sovereignty in parts of the West Bank, a Bush administration official said The official said some sort of recognition of Israeli sovereignty over three West Bank settlement blocs could be part of a withdrawal plan in which Israel would pull out of most of the West Bank. The revelation came Thursday in a meeting between Dov Weisglass, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's top legal adviser, and U.S. officials.

The United States blocked a U.N. Security Council resolution denouncing Israel's assassination of Hamas' leader. The United States was alone in vetoing the resolution, which condemned the "most recent extrajudicial execution committed by Israel, the occupying Power, that killed Sheikh Ahmed Yassin." Eleven countries voted for the resolution, with Germany, Britain and Romania abstaining.

More than 40 senators said they supported Israel's assassination of Hamas' leader, a Jewish official said. The senators met Thursday with officials from the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations.

Jewish officials lobbied Bush administration and congressional leaders for Homeland Security funds. Officials from the Orthodox Union and the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations spent Thursday on Capitol Hill lobbying on a range of Israel-related and domestic issues. They met with leaders of both parties, both houses of Congress and Bush administration officials.

UJC continues push for homeland security funds for Jewish sites

With Jewish organizations divided over the use of federal homeland security funds to protect Jewish sites, supporters believe they have found a way to assuage concerns over church-state separation.

What seperation?

The United Jewish Communities, which is spearheading the effort to garner federal funds for high-risk nonprofit organizations, is touting a plan to give the federal dollars directly to contractors, who would perform security upgrades at Jewish and other vulnerable sites.

"By having the flow of money go from the federal government to the contractor, there no longer will be church-state concerns," said Charles Konigsberg, vice president for public policy at UJC, the umbrella organization of North American Jewish federations.

But some Jewish groups concerned that the program may trample on church-state separation aren't supporting UJC's efforts.

"It's a gimmick to avoid the issue," said Abraham Foxman, national director of the Anti-Defamation League. "It's still going to be synagogues, churches and mosques asking for money."

Lawmakers were expected to introduce bills this week in both houses of Congress authorizing $100 million to upgrade security at high-risk, nonprofit institutions. The legislation is expected to have bipartisan support, though it's unclear whether there is enough money for the proposal in the national budget.

Under the plan, nonprofit sites would seek qualification from their states' homeland security departments. Each state then would submit a prioritized list of sites to the Department of Homeland Security.

The federal government would decide which sites to fund and would enter into contracts with security firms that would administer the work.

Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.), who is sponsoring the bill in the U.S. House of Representatives with Rep. George Nethercutt (R-Wash.), said he would not have supported direct federal aid to religious institutions but feels the suggested mechanism is acceptable.

"It's exactly equivalent to what we do in getting a cop outside a synagogue on Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur," Nadler said.

The bill, to be sponsored in the Senate by Sens. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) and Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.), would provide some of the $1 billion that sponsors estimate is needed to secure nonprofit institutions.

After last year's bombings of synagogues in Istanbul and Casablanca, Nadler said, he believes the government has an obligation to help secure U.S. sites that are vulnerable to terrorist attacks. Konigsberg said he believes the new system would expedite the process because money would be given directly to those performing the work.

However, some lawmakers remain concerned that using contractors would make the process more bureaucratic. That issue may put a hitch into UJC's plans to roll out the program this week.

Some groups also argue that the use by synagogues or day schools of federal funds, even if they come through a middle man, violates the constitutional separation of church and state.

Jewish groups have been discussing the issue with the UJC for months, and several organizations were pushing for the community to promote loan guarantees for Jewish sites rather than direct aid.

Indeed, the proposed bill includes loan guarantees as an alternative to federal funding. That would allow Jewish sites to pay for the improvements themselves, but over time and at a more affordable rate.

However, UJC believes its approach is more in keeping with the needs of its member federations, which face rising security costs because of increased fears of terrorism and the perception of rising anti-Semitism worldwide.

UJC has garnered support from the American Jewish Congress, Orthodox Union and United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism. Officials from the O.U. and the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish organizations were on the Hill last week lobbying for support for security, as well as a range of other Israel and other domestic issues.

Outside the Jewish community, the legislation is backed by, among others, the American Red Cross, YMCA of the USA and the American Hospital Association.

The American Jewish Committee, Religious Action Center for Reform Judaism and Jewish Council for Public Affairs still are reviewing the suggested provisions.

"While we certainly appreciate the new realities this legislation seeks to address, we continue to have concerns about its application to houses of worship and other pervasively sectarian institutions," said Mark Pelavin, the RAC's associate director. "We are working closely with the bill's sponsors, and our leadership is in the process of reviewing the most recent draft of the legislation."

Even Jewish groups that are not inclined to support the legislation aren't expected to oppose it actively because of the community's pressing security needs.

"We will continue to raise the concerns," Foxman said. "Will I be testifying against it? Probably not."

Jewish opponents of the plan also worry that the legislation could pit Jewish communities against each other for federal aid, questioning whether synagogues in smaller cities would get as much attention as those in places like New York or Chicago.

State’s attorney general calls homeland security his office’s ‘No. 1 priority’

Some days, said state attorney general Peter Harvey, he spends his entire day thinking about one thing and one thing only — the threat of terror.

“I tell you, the No. 1 priority for me is homeland security,” Harvey told a recent meeting of the State Association of Jewish Federations. “And I’ll tell you why: If we are dead, nothing else matters.

“We have been living in America with the specter of terror for a long time, and we’d better do something about it, or we will definitely fall victim to those who have no reservations about killing us all,” he said. “The people who wish to kill us don’t care whether we’re male or female, Jewish or gentile. You have people who wish to express a particular point of view through violence, and I intend to stop them.”

Harvey made his remarks before a gathering of about 30 people at a Jan. 13 meeting of the State Association’s Governmental Relations Committee at the Jewish Federation of Greater Middlesex County in South River.

During the meeting, Jeffrey Maas, State Association executive director, reported that the organization continues to pursue governmental funding on several fronts, most notably for transportation for seniors and NORCs, naturally occurring retirement communities.

Harvey focused the discussion on what he described as “an unbroken string of terror attacks” in America — the 1993 bombing at the World Trade Center, the 1995 bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, the 1996 bombing at the Summer Olympics in Atlanta, the 2001 bombings of the World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon, and the recent chain of sniper attacks in Maryland and Ohio.

“This is a reality we have to live with,” the attorney general said. “We have got to use every available tool we have to stop these people from acting. My primary goal is to preserve life. Let’s try to provide a seamless web of protection.”

In pursuit of that goal, Harvey said, he has been meeting with the prosecutors, chiefs of police, fire officials, and counterterror coordinators in every county of the state, going over the list of critical infrastructure sites in each county and developing protocols for each of the color-coded threat levels established by the Department of Homeland Security.

Some of those protocols include new regulations requiring extra locks on airplanes at regional airports and extra security for chemical storage facilities, he said. In addition, his department has cracked down on license fraud at the Division of Motor Vehicles. “If you are a terrorist and you want to move about the country,” he explained, “your currency is a driver’s license.”

At the same time, Harvey said, he has been in constant communication with the federal authorities, raising their awareness about the fact that counterterror measures in New Jersey go hand-in-hand with counterterror measures in New York. “We have to protect the bridges and tunnels, and we can’t just protect one side of it,” Harvey said. “You have to begin to look at New York and New Jersey as a single region.”

In a question-and-answer period after his remarks, Harvey rejected the use of profiling as a tool in targeting terrorists. “Terrorism comes in all forms,” he said. “Let’s be smart about it. Let’s understand that there is no type of terrorist. There is no model for what a terrorist looks like.

“I think profiling is lazy policing,” he said. “You ultimately have to look at conduct. If you focus on conduct, you’ll get to them. It may take a little longer, but you’ll get to them.”

As the meeting ended, David Mallach, assistant executive vice president of United Jewish Communities of MetroWest NJ and director of its Community Relations Committee, said he had found Harvey’s message “disconcerting.”

“Obviously, he feels that the issue of homeland security is one of extraordinary, paramount significance at the state level,” Mallach said. “To say that it supercedes all other concerns on a state level — I have to believe he knows what he’s talking about, which I find worrisome.”

But Larry Lerner, president-elect of the State Association, said he was pleased that Harvey had given so much weight to the subject. “He was very effective tonight in sharing his concerns over terror prevention,” Lerner said, “which is an area I’m happy to see he’s deeply involved in.”

Even so, one of Hawaii's senators has built a career- long reputation for being one of Congress's strongest champions of Israel.

Democrat Daniel Inouye has backed legislation allocating funds to Israel, supporting its missile defense system, and calling on the US to move its embassy to Jerusalem.

Lubavitch rabbi Itchel Krasnjansky of Honolulu says the senator's concern for Israel stems from 'a very long and beautiful story' rooted in his war experiences. Inouye received a Medal of Honor, America's highest award for military valor after he lost his right arm. He was a member of a World War II regiment instrumental in liberating Jews from concentration camps

The High-Risk Non-Profit Security Enhancement Act of 2004, introduced Thursday in both houses of Congress, would provide $100 million for the Homeland Security Department to aid non-profit groups at risk of terrorist attacks, such as synagogues and Jewish day schools, as well as hospitals and community centers. WORLD CAPITALS (IslamOnline.net & News Agencies) -- The whole world slammed Israel for its extrajudicial execution of newly-appointed Hamas leader in the Gaza Strip Abdelaziz Rantissi, with the European Union dubbing it "unlawful and provocative". Washington alone, however, defended Israel.

 

In Straffan, Ireland, E.U. Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana said late Saturday, April 17 , that Israel's extrajudicial execution of Rantissi was "not conducive to lowering tension".

 

"The European Union has consistently condemned extrajudicial killings," Solana said in a statement issued during talks between E.U. and Asian foreign ministers, according to Reuters.

 

"Israel has a right to protect its citizens from terrorist attacks, but actions of this type are not only unlawful, they are not conducive to lowering tension."

 

Calling it a "violation of international law", United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan called on Israel to "immediately end" the practice of "extrajudicial killings".

 

In a statement issued by his spokesman, Annan condemned the Rantissi extrajudicial execution and urged Palestinians and Israelis to resume negotiations based on the Middle East roadmap drawn by the U.N., U.S., European Union and Russia, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).

 

Israel assassinated Rantissi in a helicopter strike in the Gaza Strip Saturday, less than a month after he succeeded Hamas founder and spiritual leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, whom Israel killed in a similar attack.

 

Portuguese Foreign Minister Teresa Gouveia said the extrajudicial execution "in no way contributes to the resolution of the Middle East conflict".

 

British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said such assassinations were wrong and unhelpful to peace.

 

"The British government has made it repeatedly clear that so-called targeted assassinations of this kind are unlawful, unjustified and counterproductive," Straw said in a statement.

 

Italy also warned that the extrajudicial execution could lead to further bloodshed.

 

"Italy, like the whole of the European Union, has always condemned the practice of targeted assassinations, which contribute to furthering the spiral of hatred and violence," Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini said.

 

Arabs Condemn

 

The extrajudicial execution drew strong rebukes from Arab countries, as well.

 

Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa said condemned the assassination and slammed Israelís "state terrorism".

 

"The continuation of this Israeli policy of aggression demands serious action from the international community to secure international protection for the Palestinian people," he said in a statement.

 

Qatar was the first Arab state to officially condemn the Rantissi extrajudicial killing branding it "a terrorist crime by Israel," according to Aljazeera.

 

The Jordanian government, which has a peace treaty with Israel, convened an urgent meeting after the assassination and condemned "the Israeli crime".

 

In Cairo, Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher lashed out at the Israeli crime, accusing Israel of driving the region to deep abyss.

 

The Peopleís Assembly (Egyptís lower house of parliament) Arab Affairs Committee held an emergency meeting and issued a statement condemning "Israelís state terrorism".

 

Iranian Vice President Mohammad Ali Abtahi, calling Rantissi a "martyr," said the assassination was a "big crime" that "will only give fresh blood to the resistance (movement) in the region."

 

U.S. Defends Israel

 

Singing like a canary, the White House defended Israel which defiantly vowed to continue what it called "eliminating terrorists".

 

"Israel has the right to defend itself from terrorist attacks," the White House said in a statement. "Hamas is a terrorist organization that attacks civilians."

 

The statement said Israel should "consider carefully the consequences of its actions" and called on "all parties to exercise maximum restraint at this time".

 

"The United States is gravely concerned for regional peace and stability," the White House said.

 

A U.S. State Department official told CNN Washington neither gave "Israel any kind of green light" to kill Rantissi nor had advance knowledge of the attack on his car in Gaza City.

 

He was apparently responding to Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qorei charges that the extrajudicial execution was a "direct result" of U.S. support for Israel.
